One of the expected K-1 bouts is a farewell fight for two-time champion Masato, in a third contest with Andy Souwer, an opponent he has never defeated.

Among the expected MMA contests rumored for the event are a Dream lightweight title bout between recently crowned champion Shinya Aoki, and the also popular Tatsuya Kawajiri, and the championship bout of the “Super Hulk Tournament” between Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Ikuhisa Minowa.

Other rumored participants at the New Years Eve event are Jerome Le Banner, Alistair Overeem, Kazushi Sakuraba, Hayato “Mach” Sakurai, Tim Sylvia, Kiyoshi Tamura, Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, and Badr Hari.

Sylvia earned a first round knock out over the relatively inexperience Jason Riley. After peppering him with combinations and strikes in the clinch, Sylvia finally felled Riley with a left hand that led the referee to stop the bout.

Alexander also earned a first round knock out over his opponent, Sherman Pendergarst, though his was a little quicker. Alexander opened the bout with leg kicks, then finished off Pendergarst with a series of knees to the body.

Adrenaline IV is  slated to take place near Omaha, Nebraska at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and is also expected to feature current UFC fighter Houston Alexander and veteran Jeremy Horn.

Sylvia  (24-6), a former UFC heavyweight champion, is currently riding a three-fight losing streak, suffering a 9-second knockout to Ray Mercer in his most-recent fight in June after weighing in at an astonishing 310-pounds for the bout. “The Maine-iac” previously suffered back-to-back losses to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fedor Emelianenko in 2008.

Riley (6-1) won the NAAFS heavyweight title in his most-recent fight in April, defeating Justin Black via first-round knockout.

Arloski competed exclusively for the UFC from 2000 through 2008, including a reign as the promotion’s heavyweight champion, but was allowed to become a free agent in early-2008 despite a three-fight win streak and promptly signed with Affliction. After victories over Ben Rothwell and Roy Nelson pushed his win streak to five-straight, Arlovski suffered first-round knockouts to top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko and undefeated prospect Brett Rogers.

Affliction vice president Tom Atencio confirmed the news on Tuesday with Fighters Only, and also that the company will keep Tim Sylvia under contract for now despite back-to-back losses of his own and that Affliction has no plans for Fedor’s  brother Aleksander Emelianenko to fight for them in the future.

Affliction vice president Tom Atencio confirmed the news with Fanhouse on Monday, saying “It’s his second (loss) in a row, and I don’t want to take a chance on anything. The fight is less than 60 days away.”

Sylvia (24-6), who previously suffered a first-round submission loss to top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko last July, weighed in at 310 pounds for his bout against Mercer and would have needed to shed 45-pounds in less than two months to make the 265-pound heavyweight limit.

Sylvia’s opponent, Paul Buentello, will remain on the Affliction: Trilogy card, where he’s likely to meet the winner of a June 27th matchup between Gilbert Yvel and Pedro Rizzo.

UFC veterans Rich Clementi and Jeremy Horn both picked up first-round submission victories on the Adrenaline III undercard.

Sylvia weighed 263 pounds for his most-recent bout at Affliction: Banned last July, adding nearly 50 pounds to his 6-foot 8-inch frame over the past 11 months. He’ll need to shed the additional weigh in just under two months to reach the 265-pound heavyweight limit for his Affliction: Trilogy matchup with Paul Buentello.

Sylvia and Mercer were originally scheduled for a boxing match in New Jersey, before the state declined to approve the contest, forcing it to be moved to Alabama where it was changed on Thursday to MMA rules after the boxing bout was deemed illegal.

Notables Jeremy Horn (204.8) and Rich Clementi (170.2), both UFC veterans, were on weight for their respective matchups.

Details on the switch from Sherdog:

Association of Boxing Commissions President Tim Lueckenhoff told Sherdog.com that neither he nor the ABC organization had been approached directly to regulate the bout. Further, Lueckenhoff said he’d thought Sylvia-Mercer would be an MMA contest and not a boxing bout. Lueckenhoff said federal law currently has no jurisdiction over MMA bouts, but laws are in place over boxing under the Professional Boxing Safety Act.

In a press release issued by the ABC on Thursday, the organization denounced the “unwarranted and illegal” boxing match. The release also noted that the River Cree commission, as well as referee John McCarthy, had withdrawn their involvement from the bout and event.

“Canadian boxing commissions are not authorized to supervise boxing matches in the U.S.; and, patently, it is wholly inappropriate for one representative from a Canadian boxing commission, together with an MMA referee, to supervise a boxing match,” said Bruce C. Spizler, chairman of the ABC legal committee in the release.

“Everyone thinks I came to Alabama because it’s unsanctioned here,” said Cox, “but why would I go to so much trouble to try and get this event regulated if that were the case?”

The last-minute rules switch is just the latest snag for the fight, which was originally to take place on May 30th in Atlantic City, New Jersey before the state’s athletic commission declined to regulate the contest. It was then moved to Alabama, which lacks a commission to sanction the bout, where it was scheduled to take place under boxing rules in an MMA cage before being forced to take place under MMA rules just two days before the fight.

UFC veterans Rich Clementi and Jeremy Horn will also be in action on the card.
