In this weeks addition of MMAFrenzy.com’s Rising Sun Roundup, our weekly look at the MMA happenings in Japan, we take a look at Takanori Gomi’s “last fight in Japan” as well as the rest of the Vale Tudo Japan card. Takanori Gomi, a top lightweight fighter that has had a tough go of things recently, announced Tuesday that his upcoming bout at Vale Tudo Japan ‘09 would be his final fight in Japan. “The Fireball Kid” made the announcement during a press conference to promote the October 30th event, and his official involvement in it.

Gomi also made the strange announcement that in addition to attempting to move his MMA career to the US he would also be pursuing a second professional career as a surfer.

After a rumored bout with Brett Cooper fell through, Takanori Gomi has agreed to take on Rafaello Oliveira at Affliction: Trilogy on August 1 in Anaheim, California, the promotion today announced.

Affliction: Trilogy is headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Josh Barnett and also features Gegard Mousasi vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Vitor Belfort vs. Jorge Santiago, and Paul Buentello vs. Gilbert Yvel.

A rumored 165-pound catchweight bout between lightweight Takanori Gomi and welterweight Brett Cooper will not take place at Affliction: Trilogy despite earlier reports that the bout was close to being finalized.

Notable lightweight Takanori Gomi and heavyweight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira both earned victories in weekend MMA action. Gomi snapped a two-fight losing streak with his second-round KO of Takashi Nakakura while Nogueira won his fifth-straight with a third-round submission of Dion Staring.

Despite an upset loss to relative-unknown Sergey Golyaev on Saturday at Sengoku 6, Takanori Gomi will meet lightweight grand prix winner Satoru Kitaoka for the vacant Sengoku lightweight title on January 4th in Japan, according to Sherdog.
