Pat Curran advanced to the finals of Bellator’s lightweight tournament with an upset victory over tourney favorite Roger Huerta at Thursday’s Bellator 17 event in Boston.

Curran earned a unanimous decision over Huerta to move on to the 155-pound finals, where he’ll meet submission expert Toby Imada, who advanced to the finals for the second straight season with a second-round armbar of Carey Vanier on Thursday.

Roger Huerta Returns in Lightweight Semis at Bellator 17 on May 6 in Boston

Lightweight Roger Huerta will return to action in the semifinals of Bellator’s lightweight tournament, which the promotion today announced will take place at Bellator 17 on May 6 in Boston.

Matchups for the 155-pound tourney are scheduled to be announced at a Wednesday press conference at Boston’s Wang Theatre, which also hosts the Fox Sports Net-televised event.

Lightweight UFC veteran Roger Huerta successfully made his Bellator debut at Thursday’s Bellator 13 in Hollywood, Florida, submitting Chad Hinton with a third-round kneebar to advance to the semifinals of the promotion’s season two 155-pound tournament.

In other main card action, Carey Vanier also advanced to the lightweight semis, while featherweights George Karakhanyan and Joe Warren earned wins to move onto the second round of the 145-pound tourney.

Bellator 13 Weigh-In Results: Roger Huerta, Chad Hinton Make Weight for Main Event

Ahead of Thursday’s anticipated debut of Bellator’s second season, UFC veteran Roger Huerta, main event opponent Chad Hinton, and the rest of the Bellator 13 fight card hit the scale on Wednesday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida to weigh-in for their bouts.

Both Huerta and Hinton successfully weighed in at 155.25 pounds for the headliner with the rest of the main card also making weight.

Roger Huerta Focused on Fighting, Willing to Return to UFC

Lightweight Roger Huerta, who finished out his UFC contract last Wednesday at UFC Fight Night 19 with a loss to Gray Maynard, says he’s again focused on fighting following back-to-back losses and is willing to return to the UFC.

“I can’t go out with two losses in a row. I don’t think I’m going to call it quits anytime soon. I’m still open to acting. Hopefully we get something going with that, but I’m not going to prioritize (acting) now. I’ll still prioritize fighting. If the UFC wants me back, I’d be willing to go back.”
