Headliner Gina Carano was the top earner at Saturday’s Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg event in San Jose, receiving $125,000 for her main event loss to Cris “Cyborg” Santos, who earned $25,000 for the first-round TKO victory.

Renato “Babalu” Sobral ($70,000), Jay Hieron ($55,000), Gilbert Melendez ($50,000), and Fabricio Werdum ($50,000) were also among the top earners for the event, according to the official fighter salaries released by the California State Athletic Commission on Tuesday.

Cris “Cyborg” Santos needed less than one round to become the first-ever Strikeforce 145-pound women’s champion, knocking out Gina Carano in the opening round of Saturday’s Strikeforce headliner at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

In other main card bouts, Gegard Mousasi became the new Strikeforce light heavyweight champion with a 60-second knockout of Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Gilbert Melendez retained the promotion’s interim lightweight title with a third-round TKO of Mitsuhiro Ishida, and heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum submitted Mike Kyle in the opening round to kick off the Showtime broadcast.

“Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” headliners Gina Carano and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, who meet for the newly-created Strikeforce 145-pound Women’s Championship in Saturday’s Showtime-televised main event, successfully made weight for the matchup at Friday’s official weigh-ins in San Jose, California.

The rest of the 18-fighter card also successfully made weight with the exception of Jesse Taylor, who weighed in one pound over the welterweight limit for his main card bout against Jay Hieron.

A Strikeforce light heavyweight championship bout between title-holder Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Gegard Mousasi remains on the August 15 “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” card despite a reported cease and desist letter sent to the promotion by the UFC and rumors that Mousasi was misled by his M-1 Global management about the UFC’s contract offer to the former DREAM champ.

A title bout between Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Gegard Mousasi originally scheduled for Affliction’s recently-canceled August 1 “Trilogy” event is now set to take place at Strikeforce’s August 15 card in San Jose, California.

Strikeforce announced the fight on Monday, officially adding it to the Showtime-televised card that also includes Gina Carano vs. Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos for the first-ever Strikeforce 145-pound women’s championship and a lightweight title unification between Josh Thomson and Gilbert Melendez.

On Thursday, Affliction officially announced the majority of the lineup for its August 1 Affliction: Trilogy event, which will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and air live on pay-per-view and HDNet.

Trilogy is headlined by a heavyweight matchup between top-ranked Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett.

Also confirmed for the pay-per-view main card are Gegard Mousasi vs. Renato Sobral, Vitor Belfort vs. Jorge Santiago, and Paul Daley vs. Jay Hieron, as well as Paul Buentello, who is expected to take on the winner of a June 27 bout between Pedro Rizzo and Gilbert Yvel.

Originally set to fight Vitor Belfort at Affliction: Trilogy, Gegard Mousasi will instead meet Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Renato "Babalu" Sobral at the August 1st event, according to M-1 Global, which cited sources close to Mousasi.

On Friday, Affliction officially announced its third event, "Affliction: Trilogy", which will take place on August 1st at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and features a main event pitting WAMMA heavyweight champion and top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko against challenger and former UFC champion Josh Barnett.

After Renato Babalu Sobral was forced to withdraw from his upcoming Strikeforce bout against Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante on June 6th, the promotion had to find a replacement on short notice. It seems they have done so in ProElite veteran Jared Hamman…

Renato Babalu Sobral's first defense of his Strikeforce title has been postponed. Sobral had initially been rumored to be facing off against Rafael Feijao in May, but then was later announced for June 6th. Since that time it has been confirmed that Sobral's child is expected to be born on May 24th, forcing the fighter to withdraw from the event.
