The behind the scenes stuff from season 7 left a real bad taste in my mouth. I was already salty about it and that was the main reason I did not want to do season 10. I liked everyone on my team and I chose my team for a number of reasons. If I could do it over I would choose all the same guys, except next time I WILL choose the camera man. My team and I had great chemistry and we got along great. Rashad and his team didn’t even like each other. The only reason I’m blogging this is that I want everyone to know what’s really up. The show is for entertainment and it could be edited in many different ways, which doesn’t always tell the true story.

The show is called the Ultimate Fighter, not the Ultimate Coach.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson blogs about his highly-criticized appearance as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 10 opposite fellow former light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans. Team Rampage fell to 0-5 on last night’s episode of TUF 10 and will need a win from their final three draft picks to avoid being swept.

On the heels of his Tuesday announcement that he was "done fighting," Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has posted another blog post ("Who's the baby?") in which he says he'll "be damned if anybody disrespects me".

On the heels of his Tuesday announcement that he was “done fighting,” Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has posted another blog post (”Who’s the baby?”) in which he says he’ll “be damned if anybody disrespects me”.

The complete post from Jackson’s official website is re-published below:

Make no mistake the UFC treated me a lot better than Pride. If you get hurt in training in a UFC fight then will send you to the best doctors. If you get hurt in a Pride fight most of the time they will tell me “oh you better take care of that!” The UFC will always let you know in a timely matter who you will be fighting & give you enough time to train but with Pride if I knew 4 weeks ahead I would be happy cause most times they just give you a 2 weeks notice. Pride will rip you off on your merchandising but the UFC would find someway to hook you up on merchandising deals. Pride will make fights easier for certain fighters inside the ring (like standing up fights early). With the UFC whatever happens happens. The only thing I see the UFC needs to fix in this area is to get better judges. Ones who know about MMA & not from the boxing world.
The reason why I’m talking about all this is that I feel like this whole situation could have been avoided if UFC would have respected me more & rescheduled the fight about a month or more in my hometown, which I know fights can be rescheduled because of the Matt Hughes & Matt Serra was postponed due to injuries. Instead, Dana went on the internet & started talking bad about my decision. All we had to do was come to a certain type of argreement or understanding, which later came after a lot of trash talk from Dana. My manager flew to Vegas & talked to them & tried to work things out like a MAN. & still I keep quite & I didn’t talk trash back on the internet. The only reason why I’m even talking now is because I feel like I owe my fans an explanation because I am a MAN, a real MAN. Yeah I made good money with the UFC more than Pride, but I made both shows more money than they made me. I didn’t care too much about Pride treating me like crap cause I was an American in a Japanese company. Now in my own country, I feel like I’m being disrepected. Everything is not about how much money you make. You could be the richest man in the world but if nobody repsects you then it don’t mean shit. You can’t buy respect. It should be earned. & thats what I’m all about.

Now Rashad wanna put his two cents in. Rashad remains to be a boy under me. He wins a few fights, and some of them I thought the judges fell asleep during the fight & woke up & saw him playing with his nipples & guessed he won. He knocked Chuck Liddel out when Chuck wasn’t even the same man anymore. & now he thinks he’s on my level. Yeah he talks about how he beat Forrest & I lost. But when I fought Forrest that was the worst Rampage I had ever seen. & I still know in my heart I won that fight. So now he’s Mr. All Cocky & says I got a big mouth & talk a lot of smack. If my memory serves me correctly, he’s the one that got into my face after the Jardine fight & started talking trash when he was the one that was originally supposed to fight me that night, but he told Dana on the phone he didn’t want to fight. He wanted to keep his belt longer. Now, I’m not saying wether or not I would have beaten Machida, but I wouldn’t have went out like a bitch like the way he did. So I’m the one that was looking forward to the Rashad fight the most. I have always been a fighter my whole life. As a kid my family treated me like shit which made me the person who I am today. This is why when I meet people I treat people the way I want to be treated (unless they approach me wrong or piss me off). I grew up thinking that I wasn’t even important to my family which made me not even care about myself. That’s why I can get knee-ed in the face 15 times & come back for more. That’s why I can get my legs seriously hurt in a fight & still try to win. Thats why I can get my ribs broken in a fight & not tap out because my whole life I never thought I mattered to anybody or anybody cared about me. But now I have kids that love me & care about me & I’m not used to people caring about me but it feels good! I’m a very loyal person. Wolves are the most loyal animals on the planet. I was very loyal to the UFC, but now I owe all my loyalty to my kids… the ones who really care for me. The majority of my fights on the street I fought for free & they all were with emotion. I am a fighter, I will always be a fighter but my professional fights that were fought with emotion, I ended them all in devestating fashion. I am the wrong fighter that should fight pissed off professionally. I don’t even consider it fair. So Rashad says he will fight me for free. I will gladly meet him at any gym & fight him just to shut his mouth up. & I mean that for real!

When I told Dana I did not want my belt back & that I just wanted to make money, it was around the time when they gave me Vanderlei & actually it was around the same time when my mind wasn’t right (my mind was at TRUCK status) & that’s the way I felt because I felt I had been robbed out of my belt. After the Jardine fight I did want my belt back because my family was so proud of me when I was champion & I want to make my family proud cause now I finally feel like my family cares about me & they accept me & this is what I’ve been wanting my whole childhood… for my family to like me. If I got to beat some ass for my family to like me, so be it. But now, I’m a grown man & I’ll be damned if anybody disrespects me. I’m not having it, it’s not happening!

Shivers attacks early with punches and gets McSweeny to the canvas, but McSweeny escapes back to his feet and goes to work with low kicks on his fatigued opponent. After wearing Shivers down with kicks and punches, McSweeny wobbles him with a combo late in the second and grabs a guillotine following a desperation takedown but is unable to finish Shivers off. A third round appears likely, but the judges have reached a decision and declare McSweeny the winner by majority decision, improving Team Rashad to 2-0 in the opening round.

The official result of the second opening round bout was:

James McSweeney def. Wes Shivers via majority decision (19-19, 20-18, 20-18)

Here’s what White had to say (via MMA Fanhouse):

Rampage is a grown man. He’s acting like a baby right now, but he’s a grown man. If he wants to be in the movie business, Rampage, good luck to you, man. I hope he makes it big, and I’m not being sarcastic. … I hope the movie thing works out for him. If that’s what he truly wants to do, and that’s what he feels and that’s what he thinks his career is, I wish him all the luck in the world.”

I just found out, too. Rampage has been a friend of ours. We really like Rampage. I’m not going to get into the battle of who’s done what for who and all that stuff. We’ve done a lot for him and yes, he’s been there and fought. The guys who come in here, they’re fighters. That’s what they do. We give them fights and they fight. And they make money and we make money. That’s the way it works.

I got so pissed off. I’m speaking my mind, he thinks I’m trying to ruin his movie career.

He’s a grown man. He can do whatever he wants to do.

Former UFC light heavyweight champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has announced on his official website that he's "done fighting":

"My body has been getting so many different injuries that I wont be able to fight until my forties & neither do I want to fight that long. So I feel like my second career could be in jeopardy.. so I’m done fighting. I’ve been getting negative reviews from the dumb ass fans that don’t pay my bills or put my kids though college. So I’m hanging it up. I’m gonna miss all my loyal fans but hopefully they’ll follow me to my new career."

Former UFC light heavyweight champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has announced on his official website that he’s “done fighting”:

The UFC has done a lot for me but I think I have done more for them. The UFC bought WFA to get my contract & they saved my life, so I felt loyal to them. They pushed me into a fight with Chuck Liddel even when I clearly stated I wasn’t ready to fight for the belt because the American fans didn’t know me but I took the fight and didn’t complain & after I won the American fans booed me for the first time which changed the way I saw them & it hurt me deeply.

Then before I can even get out of the cage they announced that I was fighting Dan Henderson without even asking me. After I beat Dan Henderson, I made history in becoming the first undisputed champion in MMA but was never even given the pride belt in the cage & I was never promoted as the undisputed champ. Later Anderson Silva was.

Then they had me coach TUF season 7 and fight Forrest and the fight was very controversial & normally when a fight is that close & controversial there is normally an instant replay. I can name a couple of instances. Instead they offered me the Vanderlei Silva fight which I gladly accepted even though I know it was a very risky fight for me to take because of all the drama that was happening to me at the time. I fought that fight with a jaw injury and then a couple weeks later Dana called me and asked me to fight Rashad. For the first time I said no, I didn’t want to fight because it was such short notice & I wouldn’t have had a long break between camp. Dana talked me into fighting Rashad anyway but Rashad refused the fight and so I had to fight Jardine as a favor to the UFC instead of getting my belt back (which wasn’t even worth it to me financially).

Then I reinjured my jaw in the fight with Vanderlei & Jardine. Frank Mir gets hurt so they wanted to switch my fight from UFC 100 to the fight Frank couldn’t make it to but I couldn’t fight cause I needed jaw surgury. So they give Machida the fight against Rashad & they told me they want me to coach TUF season 10 against Rashad. That’s why I wanted Rashad to win so bad but when Rashad got knocked out I told them I wanted to fight Machida for the belt but Dana told me if I coach TUF against Rashad that I could fight Machida afterwards cause this was a different type of ultimate fighter show they were doing. After I signed the contract Dana then changes his mind & says I have to fight Rashad & even told me what to say in the press & so my fans think I was scared to fight Machida. After all that I still never complained & I did it all.

Then this movie role came about that I have been trying to get for over a year & as soon as I found out I was close to getting it, I called Dana right away & asked to push the Memphis fight back just a month or so. I told him what this movie role meant to me. I told him that I used to bond with my father watching the tv show as a kid when my parents where still married & it represents the memories I had with my father when we lived together. My dad became an alcohalic & addicted to drugs & we grew apart. But after my dad got his life back together, I was so proud of my dad & I told him I would always take care of him in the future & make him proud of me. My dad & I are still very big fans of the show & I am basically doing this for the childhood memories I had spending time in front of the tv with my dad. Dana went on the internet & mocked me because of that & I still did nothing. Dana & I finally talked & we made up & then after that he went back on the internet & said some bullshit & he was talking bad about the movie when information is not even supposed to be released & talking about payments which is not even true could really hurt my future acting career, which could very well last longer than my fighting career. I’m not like Randy Couture. My body has been getting so many different injuries that I wont be able to fight until my forties & neither do I want to fight that long. So I feel like my second career could be in jeopardy.. so I’m done fighting. I’ve been getting negative reviews from the dumb ass fans that don’t pay my bills or put my kids though college. So I’m hanging it up. I’m gonna miss all my loyal fans but hopefully they’ll follow me to my new career & I will gain more loyal fans along the way. & all you hater fans out there can kiss my big black hairy ass! & anybody that don’t like what I just said can come try to kick my ass!

I still feel the UFC is a great organization and I felt like I was very loyal to them but they didn’t respect my loyalty but I wish the UFC the best. I did a lot of things for them. I wish no bad blood between us but I have kids & a family back in Memphis to provide for & thats all that matters to me!

Jackson and UFC President Dana White had been on the outs over “Rampage” accepting a role in the upcoming “A-Team” movie that forced the postponement of his matchup against fellow TUF 10 coach and rival Rashad Evans, though White said following Saturday’s UFC 103 event that they had “made up”.

Whether Jackson is serious and will follow through on his vow to stop fighting remains to be seen, but his latest blog post points to the relationship between the UFC and Jackson being very much in jeopardy.

Let the discussion begin, but stay tuned to MMAFrenzy.com for further updates on this story…

The UFC has a history of counter-programming their competition, that is, putting on their own show opposite the competition’s. When Affliction debuted on July 19, 2008 headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia on pay-per-view, the UFC threw together a full night of fights on Spike including Anderson Silva’s light heavyweight debut. Most recently they aired bouts from UFC 100 on Spike only a month after the event, to counter Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg. It stood to reason they would try to do something along those line when Emelianenko makes his Strikeforce debut, in fact UFC president Dana White had already said publicly that they had in the works a third November event to be headlined by BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez, and hinted that it would air on network television. That bout eventually landed on UFC 107 in December instead, replacing the scheduled headliner of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. “Sugar” Rashad Evans, and MMAJunkie found out why from White himself:

“Thanks to [expletive] B.A. Baracus, I couldn’t [expletive] pull it off,” White said. “B.A. [expletive] me. The collateral damage that was done by him doing this thing was unbelievable.”

“You have no idea how much collateral damage was done by [Jackson] pulling out of this thing. It literally screwed up the rest of our year. We’ve got B.J. Penn fighting in Memphis, you know what I mean?”

“What happens is, [Jackson] calls up and says he’s doing this movie. I said, ‘No, you’re not. You’re going to fight Rashad in December. You do whatever you want to do after this fight. You want to retire and become an actor? You want to join the monastery? I don’t care what you do after this fight, but ‘Rampage,’ you’re going to fight this fight.’

“He said, ‘OK.’ Then he had his manager fly in from England and met me at the hangar before I was leaving to go out of town to tell me that he wasn’t going to (fight Evans). [Rampage] and I haven’t talked since.”

White and Jackson will hopefully settle their differences, and we will get to see Jackson and Evans inside the Octagon in the near future. However, the ripple effect caused by one man pulling out of a fight shows how fragile the plans for a major MMA promotion can be.

Before a two-hour training session gets underway to allow the coaches to assess the fighters, “Rampage” makes it clear that he intends to take Slice with his first pick to the delight of Evans, who wins a coin toss and opts to take James McSweeney with the top overall pick, while Slice and the first fight selection go to Jackson.

The coaches continue to alternate picks until all 16 fighters are drafted and their teams are set:

TEAM RASHAD

James McSweeney

Brendan Schaub

Justin Wren

John Madsen

Roy Nelson

Darrill Schoonover

Matt Matrione

Mike Wessel

TEAM RAMPAGE

Kimbo Slice

Abe Wagner

Demico Rogers

Wes Sims

Scott Junk

Wes Shivers

Marcus Jones

Zak Jensen

After a training session for each team, “Rampage” announces the first matchup as Abe Wagner will take on Team Rashad’s John Madsen.

The fight is quickly underway as Madsen scores an early takedown and sets the pace for the rest of the fight before opening up a deep gash on Wagner’s forehead that pours blood. Madsen maintains the top position for the remainder of the round while offering little offense and cruises into the second round, while Wagner is surprisingly cleared to continue. Madsen again gets a takedown early in round two and, despite several standups due to a lack of action and little offense from Madsen, he’s able to control a tired Wagner on the ground to ride out an easy decision win, with the judges handing down scores of 20-16, 20-17, and 20-17.

The official result of the first opening round bout was:

John Madsen def. Abe Wagner via unanimous decision (20-16, 20-17, 20-17)

After the decision is announced by UFC President Dana White, who calls the bout the bloodiest in TUF history, Wagner’s gruesome cut is shown being tended to by a doctor as the Team Rampage fighter asks whether he can see his skull.

The episode concludes with Jackson telling his team not to touch gloves followed by a preview of the rest of the season, including more spats between the rival coaches and an outburst by “Rampage” that sees him destroy a gym door.

Here’s how the teams look after Team Rashad took a 1-0 lead on the debut of TUF 10:

TEAM RASHAD

James McSweeney

Brendan Schaub

Justin Wren

John Madsen (1-0)

Roy Nelson

Darrill Schoonover

Matt Matrione

Mike Wessel

TEAM RAMPAGE

Kimbo Slice

Abe Wagner
Eliminated by John Madsen on Episode 1

Demico Rogers

Wes Sims

Scott Junk

Wes Shivers

Marcus Jones

Zak Jensen

A. Baracus in the upcoming “A-Team” movie, which is currently being filmed for a mid-2010 release.

The role, which was portrayed by Mr. T in the 1980s series, will prevent Jackson from fighting Rashad Evans in the co-main event of UFC 107 on December 12, according to MMA Bay, which is known to have close ties to Jackson’s Wolfslair camp.

Jackson and Evans will appear as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 10, which is set to debut on September 16 on Spike TV featuring heavyweight Kimbo Slice, and were scheduled to meet at the pay-per-view event in Jackson’s hometown, but the recently-announced lightweight championship matchup between title-holder BJ Penn and challenger Diego Sanchez will instead top the card, while Jackson-Evans is rescheduled for early-2010 so Jackson can complete a full camp for the fight after filming for the movie concludes.

Jackson (30-7) passed on a title shot against Lyoto Machida earlier this year following back-to-back victories over Wanderlei Silva and Keith Jardine, instead opting for a second stint as a coach on the UFC’s reality series and showdown with fellow contender and former champion Evans.

Evans (13-1-1), is also familiar with TUF, appearing as a heavyweight on the second season of the show, suffered a second-round knockout to Machida in his most-recent bout in May. He was previously undefeated in 14 career fights with notable wins over Michael Bisping, Chuck Liddell, and Forrest Griffin.

First reported by Dana White at Friday’s UFC 101 Q&A session, and officially announced Monday by Spike TV, The Best of Pride Fighting Championships series starts January 11, 2010 at 11pm on Spike. The show will be a weekly one hour series following a similar format to that of the UFC Unleashed, and will be hosted by former Maxim Magazine “Hometown Hotties” finalist Kenda Perez.

The television series will make use of the extensive library of Pride video footage that Zuffa, LLC (parent company of the UFC) purchased when it purchased the promotion back in 2007. It is expected to include footage of many of the former Pride stars that now compete inside the UFC Octagon, including Dan Henderson, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Anderson Silva, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filopovic, and Wanderlei Silva. Spike has also claimed that they will include Fedor Emelianenko in some of the broadcasts, despite his notable absence from the UFC.

This move by Zuffa was foreshadowed by Owner Lorenzo Fertitta sporting a Pride T-shirt at and around UFC 100 in early July. Since that sighting of Fertitta in the Pride paraphernalia, an official Pride store has been added to the official UFC store on the promotion’s website, and can also be reached by visiting www.pridefcstore.com. The store includes shirts, shorts, hats, and a DVD.

Perhaps Fertitta’s shirt, and the creation of the Pride store were just done in anticipation of the upcoming creation of the The Best of Pride Fighting Championships television series, or maybe all three are foreshadowing another future move by Zuffa, LLC involving the Pride banner. This author believes there may be something bigger brewing with the Pride name, but then I could be completely off base. Only time will tell if I’m right about that, but at least we get to re-watch some great fights.
