Lightweight Josh Neer has been released by the UFC after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Gleison Tibau last Saturday at UFC 104, his second-straight loss and third in his last four fights.

Antonio Silva won his sixth-straight in the Sengoku 10 co-main event, submitting Jim York in the opening round to pick up his second-straight win outside the US since testing positive for steroids after winning the EliteXC heavyweight title last summer.

In other notable action, former IFL champ Ryan Schultz dropped his third-straight with a first-round knockout at the hands of Kazunori Yokota, Dan Hornbuckle stopped veteran Nick Thompson with strikes in the second-round, and Joe Doerksen won his fourth-straight with a second-round TKO of Takenori Sato.

The WEC announced on Tuesday that a WEC 43 lightweight matchup between Alex Karalexis and Anthony Pettis was scratched from the September 2 card in Ohio after Karalexis suffered an undisclosed injury. Rafael Assuncao vs. Yves Jabouin will replace the bout on the Versus-broadcast main card.

Strikeforce has finalized the card for it’s next event, a “Strikeforce Challengers” set for June 19 in Kent, Washington. Headlining will be “Smokin” Joey Villasenor taking on Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos in a middleweight bout, with possible future title implications.

The bout’s winner will place themselves in contention for the Strikeforce interim middleweight belt, which executive Mike Afromowitz has told MMAJunkie the promotion will issue.

Villasenor was last in action in May of 2008 with a TKO victory over Phil Baroni in the now defunct EliteXC. He was later scheduled to take on Robbie Lawler for the EliteXC middleweight belt, but that bout was canceled just before the promotion closed up shop.

Santos will also be looking to knock off some ring rust, since he last fought in September of 2008, in a TKO loss to Siyar Bahadurzada due to injury at Sengoku 5.

• TJ Grant, who was rumored to be fighting Martin Kampmann at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale before Kampmann declined the bout, will instead face Rory Markham at the June 20th event.
• Nick Thompson vs. Tim Kennedy, Dennis Hallman vs. Cedric Marks, and Cory Devela vs. Luke Rockhold have been added to the June 19th Strikeforce Challengers event.
• Jared Hamman has withdrawn from his June 6th Strikeforce bout against Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante after suffering an injury in training and has been replaced by Mike Kyle.

• Phil Cardella vs. Ed Ratcliff has been added to the lineup for WEC 42 on August 9th in Las Vegas.
• Dana White’s “special announcement” on Thursday was confirmation of UFC Undisputed 2010, the follow-up to the recently-released and highly-anticipated UFC Undisputed 2009 video game for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
• Tickets for the UFC Fan Expo on July 10th and 11th in Las Vegas are now on sale.
• The UFC won’t return to Chicago in 2009, but could hold an event in Indianapolis in 2010.

• Welterweight Nick Thompson has signed with Strikeforce.
• After undergoing a knee surgery following his UFC 92 loss to CB Dollaway, UFC middleweight Mike Massenzio will soon undergo neck surgery to repair several bulging discs that are causing stingers. He’ll be sidelined for six months to recover from the surgeries.
• A heavyweight boxing match featuring Tim Sylvia and Ray Mercer will headline Adrenaline MMA’s third event, which will take place on May 30th in Atlantic City.
• Sengoku Seventh Battle will air live on HDNet while DREAM 7 will be broadcast on the network on tape delay.
• Following his UFC 95 unanimous decision win over Troy Mandaloniz (which earned “Rude Boy” his release from the promotion), Paul Kelly will drop to the 155-pound lightweight division.
• Rory Markham fought (and ultimately lost) to Dan Hardy in the UFC 95 co-main event with a collapsed lung.
• Tickets for UFC Fight Night 18, which takes place on April 1st at the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tennessee and is headlined by Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann, start at just $20 with floor seats maxing out at a mere $200.
• Following his loss to newcomer Paulo Thiago at UFC 95, Josh Koscheck will return to action at UFC 98 in May.
• Bellator Fighting Championship this week announced the signings of lightweight Daniel Morales, welterweights Omar De La Cruz and Jorge Ortiz, and featherweights Estevan Payan and Luis Palomino. The promotion also announced that its April 3rd event will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida and will feature the first round of featherweight, lightweight, and middleweight tournaments.
• Georges St-Pierre’s camp filed an official response to the NSAC this week concerning allegations of intentional greasing during his UFC 94 win over BJ Penn.
• UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon will be sidelined a minimum of twelve months to recover from a knee surgery he’ll undergo next week.
• UFC veteran Din Thomas has signed a three-fight contract with Affliction.
• Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Ross Ebanez has been added to DREAM 7 on March 7th.
• Todd Duffee vs. Mustapha Al-Turk has been added to rumored lineup for UFC 99.

The first of the co-main events was a welterweight superfight that saw Nick “The Goat” Thompson take a unanimous decision victory over Paul “Semtex” Daley. Thompson kept Daley at bay with his reach and jab during the first and second rounds on the feet, as well as dominating the fight from top position in those two rounds, despite taking some heavy leg kicks from Daley in the first minute of the fight. Besides the leg kicks in the first minute, Daley only really looked strong after a looping punch caught Thompson behind the ear in the second, leading to some ground and pound before the bell sounded to end of the round. The third round, howeverm was nothing but domination by the eventual winner Thompson.

The other co-main event was a barn burner on the ground between Pat Healy and Ryan Ford for the MFC Welterweight Championship. Healy was the more dominant fighter much of the fight, but Ford showed a lot of resiliency and great submission defense throughout the fight. Each round saw both fighters scoring takedowns and reversals in what was a great, evenly matched fight. However in the end Healy retained his belt via split decision (48-47 three times).

The eleven-bout event took place on Saturday, July 26th, at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, California.

Newly-crowned EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva was the highest paid fighter of the event, taking home $200,000 for his second-round TKO victory which aired on Showtime. EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler received $90,000 for successfully defending his 185-pound title in the night’s main event, new EliteXC welterweight title-holder Jake Shields earned $45,000 for his first-round submission win, and Stockton-native Nick Diaz took home $60,000 for his TKO victory.

“Unfinished Business” had a paid attendance of just 3,701 and a total attendance of 6,572 for a live gate of $268,715. 2,023 tickets, worth $206,155, went unsold while $340,960 worth of tickets were given away.

The disclosed payroll for the event was $533,501.
