Strikeforce Miami Salaries: Diaz and Lawler Earn Biggest Payouts

Middleweights Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler topped the $469,600 payroll for Saturday’s Strikeforce: Miami, according to figures released Wednesday by the Florida State Boxing Commission, taking home an event high $100,000 each for their TKO victories over Marius Zomskis and Melvin Manhoef, respectively.

Other top earners for the Showtime televised event include maincard fighters Bobby Lashley ($50,000) and Cris “Cyborg” Santos ($35,000) along with undercard fighters Jay Heiron ($65,000) and Joe Riggs ($30,000).

“Strikeforce: Miami” Results: Nick Diaz Claims Title, Cyborg Retains Belt, Herschel Walker and Bobby Lashley Win Debuts

Nick Diaz was crowned the Strikeforce welterweight champion on Saturday in the main event of “Strikeforce: Miami” at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, knocking out Marius Zaromskis in the opening round to win the title.

In other action, Cris “Cyborg” retained the 145-pound women’s championship with a third-round TKO of Marloes Coenen, while Herschel Walker, Bobby Lashley, Robbie Lawler, and Jay Hieron were also winners.

“Strikeforce: Miami” Weigh-In Results: All Notables Make Weight

All of the notable fighters set to compete at Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Miami” event in Sunrise, Florida successfully made weight at Friday’s weigh-ins for the Showtime-televised event.

Headliners Nick Diaz and Marius Zaromskis, who vie for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight title in tomorrow’s main event, each tipped the scale just under the 170-pound limit, while 145-pound women’s champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and challenger Marloes Coenen also weighed in successfully.

Strikeforce will crown a welterweight champion on January 30 at “Strikeforce: Miami” is Sunrise, Florida, as top 170-pounder Nick Diaz returns to take on DREAM champ Marius Zaromskis for the newly-created title at the Showtime-televised event.

Nick Diaz Announced for January 30 Strikeforce Event in Florida

Strikeforce announced on Friday that welterweight Nick Diaz will return to action at the promotion’s January 30 event in Sunrise, Florida, which also features the MMA debut of Herschel Walker and Strikeforce 145-pound women’s champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.

Though Diaz’s opponent for the Showtime-televised card was not announced, KJ Noons and Jay Hieron are both expected to fight on the card and either could be tapped to face Diaz.

Diaz Fails To Show For Drug Test, Taylor Will Fight Hieron at Saturday Strikeforce Event

For the second time in less than a week, Nick Diaz failed to show for a mandatory pre-fight drug test, with his Monday no-show causing him to be removed from his Saturday Strikeforce middleweight championship matchup against Jay Hieron.

As reported earlier Monday, Diaz will be replaced on the August 15 “Carano vs. Cyborg” card in San Jose by one-time UFC fighter Jesse Taylor, who is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak. Taylor and Hieron will meet in a three-round, non-title fight on the Showtime-televised card.
