WEC 45 Medical Suspensions: Horodecki and Ratcliff Among Nine Suspended Fighters

WEC newcomer Chris Horodecki and WEC 45 headliner Ed Ratcliff were among the nine fighters from Saturday’s Versus-televised event is Las Vegas who were issued medical suspensions on Tuesday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Horodecki, along with prelim fighters Zach Micklewright and John Hosman, were suspended until June 8 for possible fractures, while Ratcliff joined four other fighters who received shorter precautionary suspensions.

The full list of WEC 45 suspensions included:

Ed Ratcliff: Suspended until January 19
Chris Horodecki: Suspended until June 8 unless cleared by doctor for right orbital and sinus fractures. Minimum suspension until January 19
Rani Yahya: Suspended until January 19
Muhsin Corbbrey: Suspended until February 3 for right eyebrow cut
Zach Micklewright: Suspended until June 8 unless cleared by doctor for left elbow injury. Minimum suspension until January 20
John Hosman: Suspended until June 8 unless cleared by doctor for possible nasal fracture
Courtney Buck: Suspended until February 3
Kyle Dietz: Suspended until January 19
Jameel Massouh: Suspended until January 19

Popular featherweight Urijah Faber, sidelined since a June loss to Mike Brown due to a broken hand, will square off with Raphael Assuncao at WEC 46 on January 10 in Sacramento, California.
Despite losing four-straight and six of his last seven, veteran Jens Pulver will return to featherweight action in the WEC cage in early-2010.
A bantamweight matchup between Scott Jorgensen and Takeya Mizugaki was announced on Friday for WEC 45 on December 19 in Las Vegas, while Erik Koch vs. Jameel Massouh, Bart Palazewski vs. Anthony Pettis, Muhsin Corbbrey vs. Zack Micklewright, and Tyler Toner vs. Brandon Visher were also recently reported for the card.
Featherweight prospect Chad Mendes (5-0), a teammate of Urijah Faber, has signed a multi-fight deal with the WEC and will debut for the promotion in early-2010.
Featherweight contender Josh Grispi will be sidelined for several months after recently undergoing surgery on his ankle.

Hominick vs. Taurosevicius, Corbbrey vs. Njokuani Added to WEC 43

A featherweight bout between former Affliction fighters Mark Hominick vs. Deividas Taurosevicius is in the works for WEC 43 on September 2nd in Youngstown, Ohio and a lightweight bout pitting EliteXC veteran Muhsin Corbbrey against Anthony Njokuani is also in the works for the Versus-televised event, according to Sherdog.

A veteran of TKO and a former UFC fighter, Hominick (16-8), who fights out of Xtreme Couture in London, Ontario, last fought in the WEC in February 2008, suffering a first-round submission to Josh Grispi, but rebounded with a second-round armbar submission of Trenell Young in his Affliction debut last July. Taurosevicius (10-3) is an IFL veteran who had won six-straight bouts before suffering a decision loss to Ryan Schultz in his most-recent fight in May 2008.

Corbbrey (8-3) had won three-straight fights since suffering a loss to Jim Miller in August 2006, but was defeated by Nick Diaz in EliteXC last May in latest matchup. Njokuani (10-2) lost to lightweight contender Ben Henderson in his WEC debut in January, but bounced back with a second-round TKO of Bart Palaszewski in April.

Current UFC fighter Houston Alexander and veterans Jeremy Horn and Tim Sylvia are scheduled to fight at Adrenaline IV on September 18 in Omaha, Nebraska. Alexander, who fights out of Omaha, remains under contract with the UFC, but has not fought in nearly a year and is a loser of three-straight bout, with the UFC making an exception by allowing him a tune-up fight outside of the organization. Nick Diaz Added To June 14 EliteXC Show Against Corbbrey

Nick Diaz will face Muhsin Corbbrey at the June 14th EliteXC show in Honolulu, HI, according to MMA Weekly. Diaz was tapped to appear last month at the Strikeforce/EliteXC co-promoted event against Jae Suk Lin, but ran into some trouble with the CSAC regarding his well documented marijuana use and long story short, was unable to compete on the card.

Corbbrey (7-2) is undefeated since venturing into EliteXC, and looks to be a promising up-and-comer with five of his seven wins coming via submission, and one via knock out.

Diaz (15-7) is a well-known UFC veteran with notable victories over Mike Aina, Gleison Tibau, Josh Neer, Drew Fickett, and Robbie Lawler and notable losses to Sean Sherk, Karo Parisyan, Joe Riggs, and Diego Sanchez. Diaz also pulled off a stunning gogoplata submission win over Takanori Gomi that was later ruled a no contest due to a failed drug test.

In addition to the Diaz-Corbbrey fight, EliteXCâ€™s June event will feature a long awaited match up between Jake Shields and Drew Fickett, with the winner being crowned the first ever EliteXC welterweight champion. K.J. Noons and Yves Edwards are also slated to meet that evening in a lightweight championship bout.
