A matchup between Mike Swick and former welterweight champ Matt Serra, first reported last night as a possibility to co-headline the UFC’s April 17 UFC Fight Night 22 event, is already off, as an arm injury suffered by Swick in his February loss to Paulo Thiago will likely require surgery that will sideline him indefinitely.

UFC President Dana White today confirmed that the UFC will go head-to-head with Strikeforce’s recently-announced April 17 card on CBS with an event that is expected to air on Spike TV. Headlining matchups are in the works for the event, likely to be dubbed UFC Fight Night 22, with former welterweight champion Matt Serra and Mike Swick reportedly in talks to meet in the card’s co-main event.

11 of the 22 fighters in action at Saturday’s “UFC 109: Relentless” event is Las Vegas were issued medical suspensions on Monday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, including main card winners Chael Sonnen and Demian Maia, as well as losers Mark Coleman, Mike Swick, Dan Miller, and Frank Trigg.

Maia, Swick, and preliminary card fighter Mac Danzig were issued the card’s longest suspensions, sidelined until August unless cleared by a doctor for various injuries.

Headlining hall of famer Randy Couture and former welterweight champ Matt Serra topped the $944,000 payroll for Saturday’s “UFC 109: Relentless,” according to official fighter salaries released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Couture earned a flat $250,000 for his second-round submission of Mark Coleman in the UFC 109 headliner, while Serra scored $150,000 for his first-round knockout of fellow veteran Frank Trigg. Other top earners included middleweight contender Chael Sonenn, Demian Maia, and Coleman.

In the first-ever matchup between UFC hall of famers, Randy Couture dominated Mark Coleman before finishing him with a second-round submission in the main event of “UFC 109: Relentless” on Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

In the UFC 109 co-main event, Chael Sonnen earned the next middleweight title shot by upsetting fellow contender Nate Marquardt, surviving a deep gash and a frantic final minute to earn a unanimous decision victory fueled by dominant wrestling and ground and pound.

Both Couture and Coleman weighed-in at the 205-pound light heavyweight limit for the main event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, which hosts tomorrow’s pay-per-view event.

The fight card for “UFC 109: Relentless,” which takes place on February 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, is officially complete, as the UFC confirmed the remaining bouts for the event on Tuesday. UFC 109 airs live on pay-per-view and is headlined by a matchup between UFC Hall of Famers Randy Couture and Mark Coleman.

Mike Swick has reportedly agreed to replace his American Kickboxing Academy teammate Koscheck and fight Thiago at the pay-per-view event.

Former UFC welterweight prospect and “Ultimate Fighter 2″ alum Josh Burkman (19-8 MMA) recently returned from a year layoff and posted a TKO stoppage victory during this past weekend .

Burkman’s victory came during the first round over “Ultimate Fighter 5″ alum Brandon Melendez (22-15 MMA). The bout headlined “Throwdown Showdown 5″ in Utah on Nov. 20.

Randy Couture and Dan Hardy each moved one step closer to title shots in their respective divisions on Saturday with unanimous decision wins at UFC 105 in Manchester, England. Couture edged Brandon Vera in the UFC 105 main event, while Hardy topped Mike Swick in the evening’s co-headliner.

Michael Bisping, Matt Brown, and Ross Pearson were also victorious on the UFC 105 main card.

All 22 UFC 105 fighters, including headliners Randy Couture and Brandon Vera, successfully made weight on Friday for Saturday’s event at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.

Both Couture and Vera tipped the scale at 204 pounds, while welterweight contenders Mike Swick (170) and Dan Hardy (171) and middleweight notables Michael Bisping (186) and Denis Kang (185) also made weight without issue.
