UFC Challenging Strikeforce on April 17, Serra-Swick Possible to Co-Headline Spike Event

UFC President Dana White today confirmed that the UFC will go head-to-head with Strikeforce’s recently-announced April 17 card on CBS with an event that is expected to air on Spike TV. Headlining matchups are in the works for the event, likely to be dubbed UFC Fight Night 22, with former welterweight champion Matt Serra and Mike Swick reportedly in talks to meet in the card’s co-main event.

UFC 109 Medical Suspensions: Sonnen, Swick, and Maia Among 11 Suspended

11 of the 22 fighters in action at Saturday’s “UFC 109: Relentless” event is Las Vegas were issued medical suspensions on Monday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, including main card winners Chael Sonnen and Demian Maia, as well as losers Mark Coleman, Mike Swick, Dan Miller, and Frank Trigg.

Maia, Swick, and preliminary card fighter Mac Danzig were issued the card’s longest suspensions, sidelined until August unless cleared by a doctor for various injuries.

UFC 109 Fighter Salaries: Couture and Serra Earn Top Payouts

Headlining hall of famer Randy Couture and former welterweight champ Matt Serra topped the $944,000 payroll for Saturday’s “UFC 109: Relentless,” according to official fighter salaries released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Couture earned a flat $250,000 for his second-round submission of Mark Coleman in the UFC 109 headliner, while Serra scored $150,000 for his first-round knockout of fellow veteran Frank Trigg. Other top earners included middleweight contender Chael Sonenn, Demian Maia, and Coleman.

A rematch between welterweights Josh Koscheck and Paulo Thiago, scheduled for UFC 109 on February 6 in Las Vegas, is off as Koscheck has been forced to withdraw from the event with an undisclosed injury, according to MMA Fighting.

Mike Swick has reportedly agreed to replace his American Kickboxing Academy teammate Koscheck and fight Thiago at the pay-per-view event.

UFC 105 Weigh-In Results: All Fighters Make Weight

All 22 UFC 105 fighters, including headliners Randy Couture and Brandon Vera, successfully made weight on Friday for Saturday’s event at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.

Both Couture and Vera tipped the scale at 204 pounds, while welterweight contenders Mike Swick (170) and Dan Hardy (171) and middleweight notables Michael Bisping (186) and Denis Kang (185) also made weight without issue.
