Also on the card, Mamed Khalidov extended his unbeaten streak to 18-straight by making quick work of Jorge Santiago, while notables Jorge Masvidal, Akihiro Gono, and Dave Herman also picked up wins.

  • Vale Tudo Japan, which is set to take place on October 30th, in Tokyo, is still taking shape. An opponent for lightweight fighter Takanori Gomi, was recently announced. Gomi will be taking on King of the Cage lightweight champion Tony Hervey, in his alleged final fight in Japan. Other expect bouts for the event are “Lion” Takeshi Inoue vs. Alexandre Franca Nogueira, Willamy Chiquerim vs. Kenichiro Togashi, Mamoru Yamaguchi vs. Jesse Taitano, Tenkei Fujimiya vs. Tito Jones. Also expected to participate are Rumina Sato and Yoichiro Sato, but their opponents are yet to be determined.
  • Sengoku middleweight champion Jorge Santiago will take on recent promotional acquisition, Polish light heavyweight star Mamed Khalidov in a non title fight at Sengoku 11 on November 7. Also recently added to the card were a heavyweight bout between “Big” Jim York and Dave “Pee-Wee” Herman, a lightweight number one contender match up pitting Eiji Mitsuoka against Kazunori Yokota, and a featherweight contest of Shigeki Osawa vs. Ronnie Ushiwaka Mann.
  • Top female fighter Miku Matsumoto extended her winning streak to twelve straight at Deep 44th Impact on October 10, defeating “Windy” Tomomi Sunaba via unanimous decision.
  • Dream 12, on October 25, has gained two more middleweight bouts as slugger Melvin Manhoef will take on Zelg Galesic, and ground ace and former WEC champion Paulo Filho will face Korean judoka Dong Sik Yoon inside the White Cage. (Dream 12 Poster included below.)

  • Despite reports earlier this week that Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic was retiring, the heavyweight veteran will apparently fight at least one more time, according to reports out of Croatia.
  • Looking to capitalize off the UFC’s promotional push behind the UFC 105 main event between Randy Couture and Brandon Vera, Strikeforce has booked its own Couture-Vera matchup, as Kim Couture and Kerry Vera will square off at a likely November 20 event. [Strikeforce]
  • A broken hand suffered in his recent win over Jason Riley will prevent Tim Sylvia from making his DREAM debut on October 25 as scheduled, with the former UFC heavyweight now expected to fight at DREAM’s New Year’s Eve event. [Sherdog]
  • Satoshi Ishii vs. Hidehiko Yoshida will headline a New Year’s Eve Sengoku event directly opposite rival DREAM’s New Year’s Eve show.   • UFC lightweight Kenny Florian has amicably split with Sityodtong and longtime trainer Mark Dellagrotte and will instead train with Firas Zahabi, the trainer of welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre, for his December matchup against Clay Guida. Dellagrote will still have his hands full as Frank Mir and Miguel Torres are now training at Sityodtong alongside the likes of Marcus Davis and Patrick Cote. [Fighters Only]

  • Spike’s broadcast of part of the UFC 103 undercard drew in 1.4 million viewers, including a 1.5 rating in the 18-34 year old male demographic, making it the number two rated show in the segment. [Spike TV]

    The opening round of the promotion’s middleweight grand prix is now set as UFC and PRIDE veteran Kazuhiro Nakamura will meet Paul Cahoon in the first round and Jorge Santiago will take on Logan Clark. Previously announced for the tournament were Yuki Kondo vs. Yuki Sasaki and Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos vs. Siyar Bahadurzada.

    World Victory Road also announced that Jiu-Jitsu world champion Xande Ribeiro will make his mixed martial arts debut against professional wrestler Takashi Sugiura at Sengoku 5.

    IFL lightweight champion Ryan Schultz faces Jorge Masvidal at the September 28th event and Roger Gracie will also be in action against an opponent to-be-determined.
