Middleweight Frank Trigg sealed his main event win over Danny Babcock with a late third-round knockdown, earning a unanimous decision victory in the headlining bout of XCF: Rumble in Racetown, which took place on Saturday in Daytona, Florida.

Despite emerging victorious, Trigg, who has now won four-straight bouts and eight of his last ten, said he will return to the 170-pound welterweight division before the end of the year.

In the evening’s co-main event, UFC veteran Terry Martin fell to 2-5 in his last seven fights as he was upset by Zak Cummings via split decision. Martin too is expected to cut down to the welterweight class in the near future.

The event was to air via online pay-per-view with a portion of the proceeds benefiting UFC injured fighter Corey Hill. However, for unknown reasons, a low quality stream of the event was broadcast for free and a pay-per-view wasn’t available.

The event’s complete results were:

Frank Trigg def. Danny Babcock via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)

Zak Cummings def. Terry Martin via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Jesse Taylor def. Gert Kocani via submission (rear naked choke) — Round 2, 4:45

Marcus Jones def. John Juarez via TKO (strikes) — Round 1, 1:39

T.J. Cook def. Scott Harper via KO (punch) — Round 1, 1:37

Todd Cutler def. Jeremy May via TKO (strikes) — Round 1, 4:07

Gilbert Burgos def. Chris Thorne via TKO (doctor’s stoppage) — Round 1, 1:17

Ryan Keenan def. Blake Bowman via TKO (strikes) — Round 1, 4:29

May’s antics don’t appear to have been swayed by the impending fight as he’s shown drinking alcohol at the bar. The other fighters are rightfully surprised by their counterpart’s actions but in reality May is simply drinking water in an attempt to get into Brown’s head. May also claims to have an injured knee that forces him to sit out nearly all of the training leading up to his showdown with Brown but his knee is actually uninjured and it is simply a move to “pace” himself.

Brown, meanwhile, is expectedly taking his preparation for the fight seriously with coach Forrest Griffin questioning whether he trained too hard.

As soon as the bout gets underway Griffin’s suspicions appear to have been more serious than originally though as May lands several wild punches on Brown in the opening seconds. Brown weathers the storm but follows through with little of his prepared game plan and Griffin is perturbed by his fighter’s lack of offense. May quickly gasses presenting Brown with an opening he fully capitalizes upon. After staggering May with a solid knee Brown lands a quick square of the chin of a stumbling May to finish the feud for good in an emphatic fashion.

Team Forrest, now with a 4-0 lead over Team Rampage, flips a coin to determine the next fight and it’s Luke Zachrich, the last fighter picked on his team, taking on Dan Cramer of Team Rampage.

The fight quickly commences and it’s an all out brawl with the team-dubbed “pretty boy” Cramer and Zachrich slugging it out. Both fighters weather some solid combinations in the opening frame and make it tothe second round. In round two, Cramer poured on the strikes against his tired opponent, eventually earning the stoppage victory over Zachrich and picking up the first win for Team Rampage.

With the win, Team Rampage now has control over picking the next bout in the competition and next week we’ll see just how Jackson and his team utilize the newfound fight selection ability to influence the competition in their favor.

The first episode of the newest installment of “The Ultimate Fighter” opens with 16 fighters entering the familiar confines that is the UFC gym. Then another 8 fighters stroll in followed by 8 more. The 32 fighters now present in the gym quickly realize something is amiss with the sheer volume of fighters and express worry at what could happen next.

In walks UFC President Dana White who assembles the fighters and introduces this season’s coaches: Forrest Griffin and Quinton Jackson. White next informs the fighters that he is sick of people taking the opportunity to be on the show for granted and that everyone will be fighting in 48-hours for their spot in The Ultimate Fighter house. The matchups have already been determined and Jackson and Griffin will observe the bouts before teams are decided following all 16 opening round fights.

The weigh-ins take place the following day and go off without a hitch as all 32 fighters make weight for their fights the following day. Eight opening round bouts air on the debut episode with eight more scheduled for episode two, including a knockout that is being called one of the most brutal in the history of the show.
