Fedor Emelianenko’s Strikeforce debut is now likely to take place in November against Brett Rogers or Fabricio Werdum, according to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, who confirmed the news and Saturday’s post-fight press conference and also dismissed rumors that the top-ranked heavyweight could fight Ricco Rodriguez. Emelianenko’s first fight for the promotion won’t take place at Strikeforce’s home at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, which hosted Saturday’s card.

Coker also announced that Marloes Coenen (16-3), a little-known Dutch fighter who’s earned stoppages in all but two of her career victories, could be the first opponent for newly-crowned 145-pound Strikeforce women’s champion Cris “Cyborg” Santos. It was also announced that Strikeforce could host an eight-fighter female tournament, with the winner taking on the women’s title-holder.

Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi, who won the title on Saturday with a first-round knockout of Renato “Babalu” Sobral, said at the post-fight press conference that he plans of remaining at 205-pounds for “two or three years” before a possible move up to heavyweight.

Strikeforce is planning a Nick Diaz vs. Jay Hieron welterweight title fight, which could take place before the end of the year provided Diaz resolves his issues with the CSAC after failing to be licensed for Saturday’s event for refusing to take a mandatory pre-fight drug test.

Strikeforce’s end-of-year schedule includes three Strikeforce Challengers events, one each in September, October, and November, as well as major Showtime-televised cards in November and December.

One-time UFC fighter and controversial TUF 7 cast member Jesse Taylor has reportedly been approved by the California State Athletic Commission to replace Nick Diaz and fight Jay Hieron at Saturday's "Carano vs. Cyborg" Strikeforce event in San Jose should Diaz fail to be licensed for the bout.

One-time UFC fighter and controversial TUF 7 cast member Jesse Taylor (pictured) has reportedly been approved by the California State Athletic Commission to replace Nick Diaz and fight Jay Hieron at Saturday’s “Carano vs. Cyborg” Strikeforce event in San Jose should Diaz fail to be licensed for the bout.

As MMAFrenzy.com reported earlier today, Diaz, who missed a scheduled Friday drug test, has until 3pm PT today to show up and submit a sample for the mandatory pre-fight screening before he’d be pulled from the fight. If Diaz makes today’s deadline, results from the test would be available on Thursday.

Diaz previously tested positive for marijuana in 2007, which caused his gogoplata submission of Takanori Gomi to be changed to a no contest, and was pulled from an EliteXC card last year due to his disclosed use of medical marijuana, but passed an April drug screening before his Strikeforce bout against Frank Shamrock.

Taylor (13-3), a finalist on The Ultimate Fighter 7, was removed from the finale following a drunken rampage in Las Vegas and went on to be cut by the UFC after suffering a first-round submission loss to CB Dollaway in his lone fight inside the Octagon. “JT Money” has since gone 7-0, most-recently defeating Dong Sik Yoon at DREAM 10 last month.

If Diaz fails to show for today’s test, Strikeforce is expected to announce the news and name a replacement to fight Hieron on the Showtime-televised card before the end of the day. However, if Diaz submits his sample in time, MMAFrenzy.com will pass along results from the test once they’re available on Thursday.

The recently-finalized card for the event is:

MAIN CARD (Showtime-televised)

Gina Carano vs. Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos
Strikeforce Women’s 145-pound Championship (vacant)

Nick Diaz vs. Jay Hieron
Strikeforce Welterweight Championship

Renato “Babalu” Sobral (c) vs. Gegard Mousasi
Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship

Gilbert Melendez (c) vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida
Strikeforce Interim Lightweight Championship

PRELIMINARY CARD

Mike Kyle vs. Fabricio Werdum

Mike Cook vs. Scott Lighty

David “Tarzan” Douglas vs. Justin Wilcox

Zak Bucia vs. James Terry

Isaiah Hill vs. Alex Trevino

Gracie Mag first-reported the likely replacement on Tuesday, adding that Phil Baroni was nixed by Showtime as a replacement for the fight and an agreement with Takanori Gomi could not be reached.

Strikeforce has not yet confirmed whether the newly-created Strikeforce welterweight title will still be on the line for the Diaz-Hieron matchup as was planned when Diaz was to square off in a rematch with Riggs.

Diaz (20-7) has won five-straight, including recent victories over Frank Shamrock and Scott Smith, while Hieron, who was to fight Paul Daley at the recently-canceled August 1 Affliction: Trilogy event, has also won five in a row, most-recently defeating Jason High via first-round knockout in January.

On Monday, a light heavyweight championship bout pitting title-holder Renato “Babalu” Sobral against Gegard Mousasi was added to the Showtime-televised event, which is headlined by Gina Carano vs. Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, though a lightweight championship unification fight between Josh Thomson and Gilbert Melendez scheduled for the event could be scratched.

Nick Diaz, who defeated former Strikeforce middleweight champion Frank Shamrock via second-round TKO in a 179-pound catchweight bout in April, will return to the 170-pound welterweight division following his June 6th 180-pound catchweight showdown with Scott Smith.

From Diaz’s trainer Cesar Gracie:

“With a title fight against Cung Le nowhere on the horizon Nick will probably be going back down to the 170lbs division. I know there’s been speculation about a rematch with Robbie Lawler, but Diaz will be dropping weight as he picks up his running and cardio training.

As far as a return to lightweight is concerned, forget it. Unless BJ Penn or some other mega fight comes up he won’t return to that weight class. It just isn’t healthy. He was having terrible performances against B-level fighters. The weight drop was causing lots of health related problems and he wasn’t performing to his ability. If you put Anderson Silva at lightweight he’d get crushed cause he’d enter the cage half dead. Now we got guys that are running around bragging about how good they did with Diaz when he was a lightweight.

After this fight we’ll have Nick drop back down to 170lbs and probably stay there unless Strikeforce has something interesting for him.”

In related news, IFL veteran Jay Hieron, a winner of four-straight including a first-round knockout of Jason High at Affliction: Day of Reckoning in January, recently told MMAjunkie he accepted the June bout with Diaz before Scott Smith was tapped for the matchup. According to Hieron, who was also offered a spot in the DREAM welterweight grand prix, he’s now likely to return at Affliction’s third show on August 1st or 15th.
