Heavyweight Cheick Kongo has been tapped to replace an ill Heath Herring and take on undefeated up-and-comer Cain Velasquez in the co-headliner of UFC 99 on June 13th at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany.

An extended illness has forced heavyweight Heath Herring out of his UFC 99 co-headliner against Cain Velasquez, MMA Fanhouse reported on Tuesday.The UFC is seeking a replacement for the bout, though, as Fanhouse speculates, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic could ultimately be selected to fill in Herring and provide some European star power at the top of the card.

The UFC today announced UFC 99, which will take place on June 13th at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany. Former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin and former PRIDE title-holder Wanderlei Silva will meet in a in a 195-pound catchweight bout to headline the UFC's first trip to Germany.

Undefeated heavyweight prospect Cain Velasquez will look for his fourth-straight win inside the octagon when he takes on Heath Herring on June 13th in Cologne, Germany.
According to MMA Weekly, both fighters have verbally agreed to the matchup and are likely to sign bout agreements to make the fight official.
