Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers Weigh-In Results

All 20 fighters who will be in action at tomorrow’s CBS-televised Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers event in Hoffman Estates, Illinois successfully made weight today for their bouts.

Top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko tipped the scale at 232 pounds, while his main event opponent, Brett Rogers, came in 32 pounds heavier at 264 pounds.

Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou has now been named as Gegard Mousasi’s opponent for his previously reported non-title fight at November 7th’s “Strikeforce: Emelianenko vs. Rogers” event. MMAFanhouse reports that the contest has been submitted to Illinois’ athletic commission, along with the previously reported Fabricio Werdum vs. Antonio Silva contest.

Recently crowned Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi has confirmed that he will be defending his title on the CBS televised November 7 Strikeforce event, at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The scheduling of the title defense was recently confirmed by Mousasi with m-1global.com, though no opponent has been confirmed.

Gina Carano Tops Strikeforce “Carano vs. Cyborg” Fighter Salaries

Headliner Gina Carano was the top earner at Saturday’s Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg event in San Jose, receiving $125,000 for her main event loss to Cris “Cyborg” Santos, who earned $25,000 for the first-round TKO victory.

Renato “Babalu” Sobral ($70,000), Jay Hieron ($55,000), Gilbert Melendez ($50,000), and Fabricio Werdum ($50,000) were also among the top earners for the event, according to the official fighter salaries released by the California State Athletic Commission on Tuesday.

Strikeforce Results: Cyborg Wins Title With First-Round Knockout of Carano

Cris “Cyborg” Santos needed less than one round to become the first-ever Strikeforce 145-pound women’s champion, knocking out Gina Carano in the opening round of Saturday’s Strikeforce headliner at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

In other main card bouts, Gegard Mousasi became the new Strikeforce light heavyweight champion with a 60-second knockout of Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Gilbert Melendez retained the promotion’s interim lightweight title with a third-round TKO of Mitsuhiro Ishida, and heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum submitted Mike Kyle in the opening round to kick off the Showtime broadcast.

Strikeforce Weigh-In Results: Carano and “Cyborg” On Weight

“Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” headliners Gina Carano and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, who meet for the newly-created Strikeforce 145-pound Women’s Championship in Saturday’s Showtime-televised main event, successfully made weight for the matchup at Friday’s official weigh-ins in San Jose, California.

The rest of the 18-fighter card also successfully made weight with the exception of Jesse Taylor, who weighed in one pound over the welterweight limit for his main card bout against Jay Hieron.

Kerr Tapped to Replace Frye; Mousasi vs. Emelianenko Exhibition Scheduled

On Saturday, MMAFrenzy.com reported that Don Fry had pulled out of his M-1 Breakthrough bout, which had been moved from Los Angeles to Kansas. A replacement has been found to face his scheduled opponent, Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal at the event, in another aging legend, Mark Kerr.

Also added to the August 28th card is a special exhibition match between Fedor Emelianenko and Gegard Mousasi.

More light as now been shed on rumors that M-1 Global may have misled Gegard Mousasi in negotiations with the UFC before the light heavyweight signed with Strikeforce as CBS Radio host Carmichael Dave recently spoke to UFC Vice President of Talent Relations Joe Silva on the subject of Mousasi and M-1, and later posted a transcript of that conversation to the Sherdog Forums:

“Gegard called me about a week ago. He asked if it was true that the UFC offered 40/40 (40k to show, 40k bonus to win), Silva said. “I told him no, because we never actually made an offer. Not only did we not make an offer, but we would’ve assumed his Affliction contract and its terms. So whatever Affliction was paying him, that’s what we would’ve honored, and it was considerably more than 40/40.”

Renato “Babalu” Sobral vs. Gegard Mousasi Title Fight Added to August 15 Strikeforce

A title bout between Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Gegard Mousasi originally scheduled for Affliction’s recently-canceled August 1 “Trilogy” event is now set to take place at Strikeforce’s August 15 card in San Jose, California.

Strikeforce announced the fight on Monday, officially adding it to the Showtime-televised card that also includes Gina Carano vs. Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos for the first-ever Strikeforce 145-pound women’s championship and a lightweight title unification between Josh Thomson and Gilbert Melendez.

DREAM Announces Matchups for Featherweight, Super Hulk Tournaments
