Fights Announced for UFC 107, The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale

On Tuesday, the UFC officially announced a pair of December cards, as the promotion heads to Las Vegas on December 5 for The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale before holding UFC 107 on December 12 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Previously-reported fights between Matt Hamill and Jon Jones as well as Frankie Edgar and Kurt Pellegrino were confirmed for The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale, while BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez, Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo, and Thiago Alves vs. Paulo Thiago were announced for UFC 107.

A rumored heavyweight matchup between Frank Mir and Cheick Kongo slated for UFC 107 could be scrapped, at least if Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira gets his way, as the former interim title-holder, who bested Randy Couture at last weekend’s UFC 102 event, is calling for a rematch with Mir at the December 12 event in Memphis, Tennessee.

Cheick Kongo vs. Frank Mir Reportedly In The Works for UFC 107

A heavyweight matchup between Cheick Kongo and Frank Mir is reportedly in the works for UFC 107, which takes place in December in Memphis, Tennessee, according to Sportsnet, citing a source close to Kongo.

Both Kongo and Mir had won three-straight fights before suffering losses to Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar respectively in their most-recent bouts.

UFC 100 Fighters Test Clean for Steroids and Drugs

13 fighters from the 11-bout UFC 100 card, which took place last Saturday and the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas, were tested by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for steroids and drugs of abuse and all of the tests were negative according to NSAC executive director Keith Kizer, who confirmed the results to MMAFrenzy.com on Friday.

The UFC 100 fighters which were tested were Frank Mir, Brock Lesnar, Georges St-Pierre, Thiago Alves, Shannon Gugerty, Jon Fitch, Dan Henderson, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Mark Coleman, Tom Lawlor, Jon Jones, Dong Hyun Kim, and Dan Miller.

UFC 100 Medical Suspensions and Injuries: Mir, St-Pierre, Alves, and Bisping Among 13 Suspended Fighters

Frank Mir, Georges St-Pierre, Thiago Alves, and Michael Bisping were among the 13 fighters issued medical suspensions by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Monday following their bouts on Saturday at UFC 100.

Mir, who suffered a second-round knockout to Brock Lesnar in the UFC 100 main event, must sit out until September 10 following the loss, while St-Pierre, who defeated Alves by unanimous decision in the co-headliner, could be suspended until January 8 due to a groin injury sustained in the victory.

UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and welterweight title-holder Georges St-Pierre were the top earners at Saturday’s UFC 100 event, each taking home $400,000 for their co-main event victories.

Dan Henderson ($250,000), Michael Bisping ($150,000), and Mark Coleman ($100,000) were also among the top salaries for the historic card, which drew widespread mainstream media coverage and could surpass 1.5 million PPV buys.

Win or lose in his UFC 100 main event bout against interim title-holder Frank Mir, UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is guaranteed to be one of the top earners at the pay-per-view event, receiving $400,000 to show for the headlining heavyweight unification rematch.

Mir would make $90,000 ($45,000 to show, $45,000 to win) should he defeat Lesnar for the second-straight time, while UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre could tie Lesnar atop the event’s official payroll with a win over challenger Thiago Alves, as he’s slated to make $200,000 to show and an additional $200,000 to win the co-headliner.

UFC 100 Weigh-In Results: All 22 Fighters, Including Headliners Lesnar and Mir, Make Weight

All 22 fighters scheduled to compete tomorrow at UFC 100 successfully made weight on Friday at the event’s official weigh-ins, which were held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, the same venue which hosts Saturday’s pay-per-view event.

UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar weighed-in exactly at the 265-pound heavyweight limit, while interim title-holder Frank Mir came in 20-pounds lighter at 245. UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (170) and challenger Thiago Alves (170) as well as TUF 9 coaches Dan Henderson (185) and Michael Bisping (186) also made weight without issue.
