WEC 45 Announced for Dec. 19 Featuring Cerrone-Ratcliff, Horodecki-Njokuani, Benavidez-Yahya

World Extreme Cagefighting on Thursday officially announced WEC 46: Cerrone vs. Ratcliff, which takes place on December 19 at The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas and is headlined by a matchup between lightweight contenders Donald Cerrone and Ed Ratcliff.

The Versus-televised event also features a lightweight co-main event between former IFL standout Chris Horodecki and Anthony Njokuani and a featured bout between bantamweight contenders Joseph Benavidez and Rani Yahya.

Ben Henderson was crowned the WEC’s interim lightweight champion on Saturday after earning a unanimous decision victory over Donald Cerrone in an instant classic that headlined WEC 43 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Dave Jansen, Raphael Assuncao, and Damacio Page also picked up main card wins, while Anthony Njokuani, Scott Jorgensen, Mackens Semerzier, Eddie Wineland, Charlie Valencia, and Deividas Taurosevicius were victorious on the WEC 43 prelims.

WEC 43 headliners Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson, along with the rest of the ten-bout card, successfully made weight on Friday at the official fighter weigh-ins for Saturday’s event, which takes place at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

WEC 43 Postponed; Rescheduled for October 10 at Location To-Be-Announced

World Extreme Cagefighting announced late Monday that it had postponed its September 2 WEC 43 card in Youngstown, Ohio due to an injury suffered by headliner Ben Henderson, who was set to fight Donald Cerrone for the promotion’s interim lightweight title in the evening’s main event.

The entire card has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 10 at a venue to-be-announced and is still set to air live on Versus.

Jamie Varner’s Hand Still Broken, Interim WEC Lightweight Title Possible

WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner today announced on Twitter that a broken hand suffered in his January win over Donald Cerrone remains broken, further postponing a rematch between the pair.

“We’re still waiting on the medical reports, but it looks like Varner won’t be fighting in the foreseeable future,” Dave Sholler, a WEC representative, today told Cagewriter. “We’re moving forward with the lightweight division, and we haven’t ruled out an interim belt.”
