Former middleweight contender Dan Henderson will likely return to 205-pounds for a rematch with former Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Renato “Babalu” Sobral.

According to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, the Henderson-Sobral rematch won’t take place at “Strikeforce: Houston” on August 21 and is tentatively slated for a fall event.

After outpointing Robbie Lawler on Wednesday in the main event of “Strikeforce: Los Angeles” to earn another shot at the light heavyweight title, former champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral said he won’t fight his friend and current 205-pound champ Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and instead hopes to rematch Dan Henderson.

Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields and challenger Dan Henderson, who meet in the main event of Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Nashville,” successfully made weight at today’s official fighter weight-ins for the CBS-televised event.

Lightweight title-holder Gilbert Melendez (154.5), 155-pound challenger Shinya Aoki (154.5), light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi (204.5), and 205-pound contender Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (204.25) also made weight without issue.

All six fighters scheduled to be in action at Strikeforce’s CBS-televised event on April 17 in Nashville took part in an open workout on Wednesday in Hollywood, California.

The open workout featured middleweight champion Jake Shields and challenger Dan Henderson, who meet in the “Nashville” headliner, as well as lightweight title-holder Gilbert Melendez, Shinya Aoki, light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi, and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal.

Strikeforce today officially announced its expected return to CBS, which is scheduled for April 17 in Nashville, Tennessee and headlined by the Strikeforce debut of veteran Dan Henderson vs. middleweight champion Jake Shields.

The event will also feature light heavyweight title-holder Gegard Mousasi vs. Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez vs. Shinya Aoki.

Strikeforce will return to CBS for its recently-confirmed April 17 event in Nashville, Tennessee, while an event is also in the works for May 15 in St. Louis, Missouri that would air on Showtime.

The April 17 event is set to include Jake Shields vs. Dan Henderson, and is also likely to feature Gegard Mousasi vs. Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and the return of Herschel Walker, while Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum is in doubt for the May 15 card.
