Hill, who suffered a gruesome fight-ending leg break in a December loss to Dale Hartt, was expected to be out of action for up to two years, but he surprisingly resumed training over the summer and tells MMA Weekly he expects to return early next year, possibly in January.

Cote made it to the third-round against middleweight champ Anderson Silva last October, but a torn meniscus in his right knee ended the fight prematurely. Two surgeries have postponed his return, but Cote posted on Facebook on Sunday that rehab was going “very well” and that he will return around April.

After speaking with Xtreme Cagefighting Federation promoter Doug Bland, MMAJunkie is reporting that the promotion is planning to donate some of the proceeds from their upcoming “DynaPep Rumble in Racetown”, to be held on Feb. 14, to the “Corey Hill Get Well Fund.”

“Our promotion was new to Florida and Rob Kahn from Gracie Tampa went out of his way to help us,” Bland said. “After Corey was hurt Rob told us about how long he was going to be out and what he was up against, so we thought it would be a good idea to try and put some type of fund raising campaign to help Corey while he was recovering.”

“XCF: DynaPep Rumble in Racetown” is available as on online pay-per-view on the Xtreme Cagefighting Federation’s official website for $9.95. The XCF will donate $1 out of each purchase to the “Corey Hill Get Well Fund.”

In addition to the pay-per-view revenue, the XCF is also generating additional money for the fund at an autograph session.

“We are hosting an autograph session the day of the fight at the arena where fighters will sign a commemorative poster for $10 with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Corey,” Bland said. “For the online pay-per view portion of the event, we will be donating a dollar for each purchase of the fight.”

The article goes on to say that Hill, who suffered a nasty leg break at UFC Fight Night 16: Fight for the Troops, is grateful for the financial assistance he’ll be receiving for him and his family, and “can’t believe the folks at XCF are putting something like this together,” for him.

The fight card for “XCF: DynaPep Rumble in Racetown” is slated to include former UFC fighters Frank Trigg, Terry Martin, Jesse Taylor and Jeremy May along with former All-Pro Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defensive End, Marcus Jones and Daytona native Todd Cutler.

UFC lightweight Corey Hill underwent successful surgery on Thursday to repair a broken leg suffered the night before in a loss against Dale Hartt at UFC Fight Night 16 “UFC Fight for the Troops” at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

UFC.com reported the development late Thursday, adding that Hill is expected to be out of action for up to 18 months but is “handling the injury well and is in good spirits”.

The report also offered updates on several other fighters who sustained injuries during Wednesday’s action. Razak Al-Hassan did not suffer a broken arm in his submission loss to Steve Cantwell but did sustain a dislocated elbow and was treated and released from the hospital. Yoshiyuki Yoshida was treated and released for a concussion stemming from his knockout loss to Josh Koscheck. Jonathan Goulet was also treated and released for a concussion suffered in his loss to Mike Swick, though Goulet also suffered a knee injury that will be further evaluated in his native Canada.

Welterweights Josh Koscheck and Yoshiyuki Yoshida headline UFC Fight Night 16: UFC Fight For The Troops

In the UFC Fight Night 16: UFC Fight For The Troops main event, welterweight contender Josh Koscheck knocked out Yoshiyuki with a pair of straight rights, capping off the ten-bout card with a highlight reel knockout.

The Spike TV-broadcast event took place on Wednesday, December 10th, at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Mike “Quick” Swick finally earned a decisive victory in the welterweight division, knocking out Jonathan Goulet in just 33-seconds in the evening’s co-main event.

In other main card action, Steve Cantwell submitted Razak Al-Hassan in the opening round with a grusome armbar, Tim Credeur forced Nate Loughran to verbally submit after two rounds, and Jim Miller dominated Matt Wiman en route to a unanimous decision victory.

On the evening’s preliminary card, Luigi Fioravanti topped Brodie Farber via unanimous decision, Steve Bruno submitted Johnny Rees via rear naked choke in the second round, Ben Saunders TKO’d Brandon Wolff in the first round, Dale Hartt defeated Corey Hill after Hill suffered a broken leg early in the second round, and Justin McCully defeated Eddie Sanchez on the judges’ scorecards.

The event served as a fundraiser for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and the crowd was compromised nearly entirely of troops from nearby Fort Bragg, who attended the event free of charge.

Yoshida works leg kicks early then Koscheck fires back with punches that bloodies Yoshida. Koscheck rocks Yoshida with a right then puts him away with another right that drops him to the canvas.

Swick drops Goulet in the opening moments with a big right and finishes him off with strikes in just 33-seconds.

STEVE CANTWELL DEF. RAZAK AL-HASSAN

Al-Hassan is agressive early and presses toward Cantwell with strikes but the former WEC champion avoids major damage then counters with striking of his own before taking his opponent to the canvas. Cantwell first moves to side control then to mount before securing a grusome armbar that Al-Hassan refuses to submit to but referee Mario Yamasaki has seen enough and halts the contest in favor of Cantwell.

TIM CREDEUR DEF. NATE LOUGHRAN

Credeur picks Loughran apart with strikes for the entirety of the opening frame then splits the second round beating him up on the feet and on the ground. Credeur closes the second with a barrage of punches and Lougran verbally submits between rounds, giving Credeur the TKO victory.

JIM MILLER DEF. MATT WIMAN

Despite accepting a bout against Matt Wiman on short notice, Jim Miller was able to keep up a frantic pace over three full rounds, wearing Wiman out on the feet and on the ground. Miller nearly submitted Wiman with a deep guillotine in the opening round and blasted Wiman with punches throughout the fight but Wiman survived to the closing bell, losing to Miller on the judges cards with scores of 30-27, 30-26, and 30-27.

LUIGI FIORAVANTI DEF. BRODIE FARBER

Fioravanti controls the fight from start to finish, dominating Farber on the ground while staying out of trouble for three full rounds to earn unanimous scores of 30-27 on the judges’ scorecards.

STEVE BRUNO DEF. JOHNNY REES

After a close opening round, Bruno gets several takedowns in the second then eventually takes Rees’ back in a scramble and locks on a rear naked choke that forces him to tap out at the 3:44 mark of the second round.

BEN SAUNDERS DEF. BRANDON WOLFF

After trading with Wolff to open the fight, Saunders accidentally catches him with a low blow. The action resumes and Saunders takes control, battering Wollf with kicks and knees before a series of strikes forces the referee to intervene at the 1:49 mark of the first.

DALE HARTT DEF. COREY HILL

Hill takes the first round with multiple takedowns and effective use of his reach advantage, but early in the second round a Hartt leg kick breaks Hill’s leg and the fight is immediately halted. Hill has to be taken out of the octagon on a stretcher but Harrt remains at his side ensuring Hill is alright. The injury is said to be the “worst in UFC history”.

JUSTIN MCCULLY DEF. EDDIE SANCHEZ

After a close first round that saw McCully and Sanchez exchange on their feet before Sanchez claimed side control on the ground and worked elbows, McCully took control of the final two rounds with superior standup to earn the unanimous decision win with scores of 29-28, 29-28, and 30-27.

The remainder of the ten-bout, Spike TV-broadcast card also successfully made weight, including main event participants Jonathan Goulet (171) and Mike Swick (171), Razak Al-Hassan (205) and Steve Cantwell (206), and Matt Wiman (156) and Jim Miller (156).

UFC Fights for the Troops, also known as UFC Fight Night 16, will air live on Spike TV and will serve as a special telethon to raise money for the non-profit organization that supports the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families.

Though no bouts have yet been officially announced the card is expected to include Mike Swick vs. Jonathan Goulet, Josh Koscheck vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida, Corey Hill vs. Dale Hartt, and Rich Clementi vs. TBD.

The pay-per-view event, which took place on Saturday, July 5th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, drew an official attendance of 11,172 for a live gate of $3.2 million.

Main event winner Forrest Griffin took home $250,000, the event’s largest salary. His opponent, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, earned $225,000. The total disclosed fighter payroll for the event was $943,000.

ROUND 1 – Stevnson is aggressive early, pressing the action. Both fighters connect with punches. High kick by Tibau. Stevenson lands a hard right and Tibau falls to the ground. Stevenson follows and works a guillotine but Tibau escapes and reverses. Stevenson gets back to his feet and they clinch against the fence. Stevenson connects with an elbow. Tibau secures a takedown but Stevenson is quickly back on his feet. They clinch, then separate, and Stevenson connects with a combination that sets up a takedown. Stevenson works from Tibau’s guard but falls into an omoplata. Tibau works to finish the fight but Stevenson appears to be in little trouble, gaining a position that allows him to ride out the final minute-plus of the opening round. ROUND 2 – Stevenson and Tibau both connect with combinations then Stevenson shoots in for a takedown. Tibau remains on his feet and they clinch against the cage. Tibau mounts Stevenson but Stevson capitalizes on a mistakes by Tibau and both fighters return to their feet. Koscheck presses and misses on a kick, falling to the ground but he quickly gets back on his feet. Koscheck secures a takedown into Lytles guard. Lytle has a quillotine but Koscheck escapes and goes to work with ground and pound. Koscheck moves to half guard and looks to pass but Lytle keeps him in place. Lytle uses his legs to get away momentarily but Koscheck is quickly back into half guard. Lytle keeps Koscheck from passing then reclaims full guard. Koscheck gets back to half guard and postures up to drop punches. Koscheck nearly gets past Lytle’s butterfly guard but Lytle keeps full guard. ROUND 2 – Lytle quickly connects with a combination. Koscheck follows up with a good kick. Koscheck attempts a takedown but Lytle is able to get back to his feet. Koscheck tags him then takes Lytle down. Lytle works another guillotine with Koscheck in half guard but Koscheck manages to escape. Lytle is able to keep half guard but Koscheck postures up and ground and pounds Lytle against the cage, opening up a cut on Lytle forehead. More ground and pound from Koscheck bloodies Lytle up further. Lytle tries to keep Koscheck from posturing up but he continues to drop punches from half guard. ROUND 3 – Lytle rushes in but Koscheck evades. Koscheck comes close and Lytle tags him with a punch. Koscheck shoots but Lytle sprawls and then connects with an uppercut. Koscheck is relentless and presses Lytle against the fence. Lytle drops down and works a kimura then a guillotine but Koscheck escapes. Koscheck drops more punches from the top, widening the cut on Lytle’s head. Koscheck pounds on Lytle’s head before they are stood up by Yves Lavigne. Back on their feet Lytle is swinging for the fences. Lytle connects with a combination but slips on the blood and they clinch against the cage. They stall and are again restarted. Koschecks backs away from Lytle on the restart but Lytle is eventually able to close the distance and both fighters exchange hard punches before the bout concludes. Aurelio looks to bring him into his guard but he’s unsuccessful and Griffin is able to posture up and drop some shots. Aurelio finally brings Griffin into his guard and looks for an armbar but Griffin escapes and postures up. Griffin lands several more punches before Aurelio scrambles back to his feet. Inside leg kick and combination by Griffin. Griffin connects with another kick. Aurelio rushes in but quickly reverses. Griffin lands more shots before they clinch for the remaining seconds of the round. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 Griffin.

ROUND 2 -Quicker pace to open the second as both fighters exchange early. Griffin lands a leg kick and follows up with another. Griffin picks Aurelio up and slams him to the ground. Aurelio takes Griffin’s back in a scramble but Griffin rolls back to the top. ROUND 3 – Griffin connects with solid kicks early in the final round before shooting for a takedown. Aurelio connects with a knee and Griffin backs away and continues to connect with kicks and punches while avoiding any major damage. Right-left by Griffin quickly followed with a left-right combo. Griffin easily takes Aurelio to the ground and starts working ground and pound. Aurelio secures an armbar but Griffin pulls out. Guillard escapes, returns to his feet, then rushes back in and lands several big shots that again drop Siver and force referee Herb Dean to halt the bout at 0:36.

ROUND 1 – Hill tags Buchholz with a combination seconds in. Hill keeps up the pressure and uses his reach advantage to connect with several more punch combinations before taking Buchholz to the ground. They’re quickly back on their feet and Hill lands several more punches while Buchholz counters with kicks. Buchholz pulls guard but Hill quickly gets back up. ROUND 2 – Hill opens strong again, this time connecting with a knee and some punches but Buchholz counters with some kicks. Right head kick by Buchholz connects and the pair trade a furious series of punches during which both fighters connect. Buchholz is able to escape and in a scramble he takes Hill’s back and locks in a rear naked choke. Hill is forced to tap out at 3:57.
