According to Lytle’s agent Ken Pavia, who spoke with MMAjunkie, Lytle suffered a torn meniscus and a “blown ACL” and a timetable for his return is not yet known.

The UFC, which has not yet announced Lytle’s withdrawal from the card, is seeking a replacement for the 170-pound fight to take on Condit on the UFN 19 main card.

Lytle (27-17-5), a runner-up on the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter, is just 5-5 since returning to the UFC by way of the reality show, with losses to Matt Serra, Matt Hughes, Thiago Alves, Josh Koscheck, and Marcus Davis, as well as victories over Jason Gilliam, Matt Brown, Kyle Bradley, Paul Taylor, and Kevin Burns. “Lights Out” was last in action in June, defeating Burns by unanimous decision.

Condit (23-5) won the WEC welterweight title with a win over John Alessio in early-2007 and went on to successfully defend the belt three times over Brock Larson, Carlo Prater, and Hiromitsu Miura before the division was cut from the promotion and its fighters were sent to the UFC. In his UFC debut, Condit suffered a narrow split decision loss to Martin Kampmann in the UFC Fight Night 18 main event in April.

Sanchez edged Guida by split decision in the evening’s main event following a standup war that saw Sanchez nearly finish Guida early in the opening frame only to have The Carpenter fight his way back into the fight with ground and pound in the second and third rounds. Ultimately it was Sanchez’s multiple near finishes and cut-opening elbows from his back that earned him split decision victory.

Lytle and Burns also engaged in a standup brawl that saw Burns rock Lytle late in round one only to have Lytle survive to open up a deep gash that sent blood streaming early in the third. The cut may have been the deciding factor in the bout as Lytle was awarded the unanimous decision win.

Stevenson put his recent training with Greg Jackson on full display in a technical tussle with Diaz, as “Daddy” battered Diaz on the feet and was constantly applying pressure on the ground en route to unanimous decision victory.

All six “Fight of the Night” winners, along with Jason Dent who earned “Submission of the Night” and Tomasz Drwal who was awarded “Knockout of the Night”, received $25,000 bonuses.

The fight opened with a flurry and rarely slowed, as Sanchez battered Guida in the opening seconds with a flurry of punches and knees that appeared as though they could end the fight. The iron-chinned Guida survived the early onslaught to deliver punishment of his own in rounds two and three, but it was Sanchez’s dominant opening frame, head kick knockdown, and cut-opening elbows from the bottom that were enough to earn him the win and put him in contention for a lightweight title shot.

The rest of the card failed to disappoint either as Chris Lytle and Kevin Burns traded blows in a bout that deserved Fight of the Night before being upstaged by Sanchez and Guida, Joe Stevenson looked impressive in topping Nate Diaz by unanimous decision in a technical battle, and welterweight James Wilks and lightweight Ross Pearson were crowned The Ultimate Fighter 9 champions with victories on the Spike-televised main card.

After three quick stoppage victories by Jason Dent, Nick Osipczak, and Tomasz Drwal to start the event, the prelimiary card was marred by a duo of controversial decisions as Brad Blackburn edged Edgar Garcia and Melvia Guillard topped Gleison Tibau.

The event’s official results were:

Diego Sanchez def. Clay Guida via split decision (28-29, 29-27, 29-28)

James Wilks def. DaMarques Johnson via submission (rear naked choke) — Round 1, 4:54
TUF 9 Welterweight Final

Chris Lytle def. Kevin Burns via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Ross Pearson def. Andre Winner via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
TUF 9 Lightweight Final

Joe Stevenson def. Nate Diaz via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Melvin Guillard def. Gleison Tibau via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Brad Blackburn def. Edgar Garcia via split decision (29-28, 28-28, 29-28)

Tomasz Drwal def. Mike Ciesnolevicz via TKO (strikes) — Round 1, 4:48

Nick Osipczak def. Frank Lester via submission (rear naked choke) — Round 1, 3:40

Jason Dent def. Cameron Dollar via submission (anaconda choke) — Round 1, 4:46

Another bout is now rumored to be added to the growing card for the June Finale of “The Ultimate Fighter 9: US v. UK. Veteran welterweight Chris “Lights Out” Lytle will square off against Kevin “The Fire” Burns. According to a report at MMAWeekly.com both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout, and the contracts are expected to be signed soon.

Coming off of a disappointing loss to Marcus Davis at UFC 93, the Indianapolis firefighter Lytle will surely be looking to put out “The Fire”. Since losing to Matt Serra in the finale for “The Ultimate Fighter 4″ Lytle has compiled a 4-4 record, alternating wins and losses in his last five fights.

Burns last fought at the TUF 8 finale, suffering a vicious knock out loss to Anthony Johnson in their fight to “redo” Burns’ controversial victory over Johnson at UFC Fight Night 14. Burns made his promotional debut at UFC 85 with an upset victory over highly touted Roan Carneiro, and now holds 2-1 UFC record and 7-2 professional MMA record.

UFC 93: Franklin vs. Henderson took place today at The O2 in Dublin, Ireland. In the evening’s main event Dan Henderson topped Rich Franklin, earning a split decision victory to secure his spot as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 9 and a future middleweight matchup against opposing coach Michael Bisping. One judge scored the contest 30-27 in favor of Franklin, while the victory went to Henderson, who was awarded two 29-28 scores.

In the evening’s co-main event, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua scored his much-needed first UFC victory with a late third-round TKO of UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman. The 44-year-old Coleman was visibly exhausted midway though the opening round but Rua was largely unable to capitalize. Coleman survived the opening round and continued to get Rua to the canvas over the remainder of the fight. The fight appeared destined to go to the judges’ scorecards, where Rua was likely to be awarded the victory, but a botched call by the referee allowed Rua to connect with a combo that sent Coleman to the canvas. Coleman protested the stoppage and has his sights set on a rubber match with his rival, though Rua will first fight Chuck Liddell before the two could meet again.

Both fights were not without controversy as Henderson’s victory was marred by an accidental headbutt and eye poke, while a legal knee by Rua was ruled illegal and resulted in a standup that immediately preceded the knockout of Coleman.

Despite a broken hand suffered in the opening round, Rousimar Palhares took Jeremy Horn the distance to earn a unaniomous decision victory. Horn showed heart in the loss, surviving what was shaping up to be an early stoppage to force Palhares to work hard for the victory, which improved his record to 2-1 in the UFC and 9-2 overall.

In a featured middleweight matchup, Alan Belcher snubbed Denis Kang’s UFC debut, submitting the promising middleweight with an arm-in guillotine late in the second round to improve his UFC record to 5-3. The submission came out of nowhere as Kang dominated with first two rounds with superior ground work before Belcher transitioned a stuffed takedown attempt into a fight-ending submission.

The highly anticipated scrap between Marcus Davis and Chris Lytle kicked off the UFC 93 broadcast with back-and-forth standup action as expected, but the solid effort failed to live up it’s extreme hype. In the end, Davis walked away with the split decision victory.
