Overeem submitted James Thompson with a guillotine choke in under a minute in the DREAM 12 main event, while Alvarez used an arm-triangle choke to defeat Katsunori Kikuno in the second-round of their featured matchup.

Also at DREAM 12, welterweight champ Marius Zaromskis picked up a first-round headkick knockout of Myeon Ho Bae in non-title action, Kazushi Sakuraba submitted Zelg Galesic with a kneebar in the opening frame, and Yoshiro Maeda choked out Chase Beebe in the first.

The bout, which headlined UWC 7 this past Saturday at the Partiot Center in Fairfax, Virginia, ended in controversy when Easton was declared the winner despite Beebe clearly winning at least three of the fight’s five round according to most observers.

According to the report, the result will remain a “no decision” until the state completes a review of the fight, at which time it is expected to be changed to a “no contest”:

“I know the decision will not be reversed; the best we can hope for is a no contest, in order to be fair to both individuals,” [Virginia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Program Executive Director Dave] Holland said. “This didn’t start with anyone writing a letter or complaint to the department regarding the outcome of that fight. This was started by myself at 7 a.m. on Monday morning. The first thing I did that morning when I walked into that office is ask to take the steps to do the fair thing.”

Backlash has been palpable after commission-appointed judges Brian Costello and Brian Cunningham turned in score cards giving Easton the fight, one by a 48-46 score and one by a 49-46 score. Beebe clearly controlled the fight in the last three rounds by hitting takedowns and holding back mount, with Easton offering very little offense.

Holland said he is arranging to have veteran MMA official “Big” John McCarthy come to Virginia to meet with his judges and review the sport’s scoring criteria. “There will be other additional training to find out why certain things happened and how we would expect a change in those procedures,” he said.

Beebe dominated Easton on the ground for the majority of the bout, taking his back at will over the course of the five-round fight while Easton struggled to escape and mount any sustained offense of his own. Though Easton showed solid defense on the ground and managed to connect in bursts, Beebe seemingly did enough in the middle frames to secure a victory, winning the bout on nearly every observer’s scorecard, but the judges awarded the native Easton a split decision win.

In the evening’s co-headliner, Pat Runez was crowned the first-ever UWC flyweight champion by edging John Dodson on the judge’s scorecards after an entertaining five-round slugfest.

Beebe (12-4), who fights 125-pound champ Mike Easton at UWC 7 on Saturday in Virginia, lost the WEC bantamweight title to Miguel Torres last February then suffered back-to-back losses to Will Ribeiro and Joe Warren.

Maeda (24-7-2) went 1-2 in a three-fight stint with the  WEC in 2008, defeating Charlie Valencia while dropping bouts to Miguel Torres and Rani Yahya. Maeda resurfaced with DREAM in 2009, defeating Micah Miller in his debut before losing to Hiroyuki Takeya in his most-recent fight.

The majority of the field for the DREAM featherweight tournament quarterfinals was set on Sunday at DREAM 7 as six 145-pound fighters advanced into the second round of the grand prix. Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto was granted a first-round bye, while the eighth and final tournament slot will be filled by the winner of a DREAM 8 fight between Hideo Tokoro and Daika Hata.

Masakazu Iminari, Hiroyuki Takaya, Yoshiro Maeda, Abel Cullum, Joe Warren, and Bibiano Fernandes advanced on Sunday while notables Chase Beebe and Micah Miller failed to make it into the second-round. Tatsuya Kawajiri, Shinya Aoki, and Mitsuhiro Ishida picked up non-tournament victories.

PRESS RELEASE; Fairfax, VA — Chase Beebe failed to show for today’s weigh-in and is officially out of Saturday’s UWC – MAN “O” WAR Bantamweight Championship title bout against Mike “The Hulk” Easton at Patriot Center. Beebe has been replaced by H.I.T. (Hughes Intensive Training) Squad’s Justin Robbins for the Main Event’s title fight.

Beebe allegedly sustained a knee injury that hampered his training and ability to reduce his weight to the contractually-set limit of 135 pounds. However, the former WEC champion failed to provide medical records regarding his injury and did not appear at today’s official weigh-in, resulting in the UWC finding a last-minute replacement.

“We are extremely disappointed that Chase failed to show up today to compete at MAN “O” WAR and equally frustrated by the way this entire situation has played out,” said Ultimate Warrior Sports Development CEO Marcello Foran. “We were aware that he was having troubling cutting weight earlier this week, but never received any official medical documentation about the severity or extent of an injury that would force him to pull out of the show which is required in his contract.”

Beebe missed his Thursday morning flight from Illinois to Washington, DC and failed to post at today’s official weigh-in. He has not communicated directly with any UWC official to alert them of his decision. UWC plans to hold Beebe legally accountable and Virginia’s sanctioning body, the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, plans to impose sanctions against the fighter.

“While this situation is certainly disappointing to everyone, I promise that MAN “O” WAR will live up to everyone’s high expectation as the biggest and best MMA show to hit the National Capital region,” continued Foran about the UWC’s third Washington DC area event. “Every single fighter participating tomorrow will give 100-percent and my hat certainly goes off to Justin and Mike for their professionalism for agreeing to the championship fight at last minute.”

Beebe’s camp through trainer Marc Fiore informed UWC officials this past Tuesday night that the 24-year old fighter was having trouble making weight due to an apparent knee injury suffered in training camp. Beebe’s camp asked Easton’s team if they would be willing to allow Beebe to fight at a higher weight of 145 pounds, mentioning the possibility that Beebe might not be able to compete at 135 pounds on Saturday. A one pound concession to 136 pounds was granted to Beebe by UWC officials. Beebe’s contract with the UWC requires the fighter to be medically evaluated by a UWC-approved physician in the event of injury that would prevent him from participating. At mid-week, UWC officials began working on a contingency replacement as a result of their conversations with Beebe’s camp.

Known for his heart and strong work ethics Robbins has been training at H.I.T. Squad with nine-time UFC champion Matt Hughes ever since his bosses’ bout with George St. Pierre. Robbins, 27, is 13-6-1 and has competed at a highest level in Elite XC and in WEC 29.

UWC 5: MAN “O” WAR will be co-headlined by a light heavyweight battle between Antwain “The Juggernaut” Britt vs. Jamal “The Suit” Patterson, as well as seven other high level fights. A bantamweight championship bout between Chase Beebe and Mike Easton that was to headline UWC: Man ‘O’ War on Saturday in Fairfax, Virginia is in jeopardy after Beebe recently suffered a knee injury.

According to UWC officials, Beebe informed his trainers and management yesterday, February 18th, that he was nursing a knee injury which was preventing him from training and that he’d likely not make the 135lbs requirement for tomorrow’s fight. Marc Fiore and Monte Cox asked Easton’s camp if they’d be willing to allow Beebe to fight without making the contractual weight and it was decided Beebe would only be spotted an additional one pound given the length of time the fighters were given to prepare for their contest.

UWC officials say Beebe has not answered text messages, phone calls or had any communication directly with any UWC officials. Worse, UWC officials also say Beebe missed his flight today that was to bring him from Illinois to Washington, D.C. That compounds Beebe’s problems as UWC officials indicate Beebe is contractually obligated to have an injury preventing him from competing be evaluated by a UWC-appointed doctor from Georgetown University. Beebe is allowed to miss the fight, but must be medically evaluated by a doctor of UWC’s choosing. Until Beebe is able to undergo tests by a UWC-appointed doctor, any clearance by any personal doctor will not be considered sufficient.

UWC officials also indicate to Bloody Elbow that should Beebe fail to either fight at the contracted weight or make the trip to Washington, D.C. to be evaluated by UWC-approved medical teams, legal action will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law.

According to the report, Justin Robbins of Matt Hughes’ H.I.T. Squad has agreed to replace Beebe on short notice should he fail to be cleared or no show for the bout.

East coast MMA promotion Ultimate Warrior Challenge has announced that Mike Easton will face Chase Beebe for the first-ever UWC bantamweight championship in the main event of UWC: Man “O” War on February 21st at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.
