Tested were main event winner Dominick Cruz, fellow headliner and former bantamweight title-holder Brian Bowles, and main card winners Joseph Benavidez, Javier Vazquez, L.C. Davis, and Bart Palaszewski.

WEC 47, which drew 8,345 fans to the Nationwide Arena earlier this month, generated a $401,000 live gate, according to the OAC.

While the OAC cited a broken hand for Cruz’s suspension, SI.com’s Josh Gross reports that his right hand is severely swollen, not broken, but that he did suffer a fractured left foot.

Bowles lost the 135-pound title to Cruz in the WEC 47 headliner after suffering a broken hand in his first punch of the fight, which ultimately forced him to call it quits after the second frame.

In the WEC 47 co-main event, Torres was deeply gashed on his forehead by Joseph Benavidez in the second round before promptly being finished with a guillotine choke.

Chad Mendes, who won his debut on the WEC 47 prelims, was suspended 60 days for a cut, while Danny Castillo, Courtney Buck, and Bendy Casimir received 60 day precautionary suspensions.

According to MMAWeekly, the OAC has also handed down a 60 day minimum suspension to Chad George, must be cleared before returning after doctors noted he was “unstable” after suffering a guillotine choke submission to Scott Jorgensen in just 31-seconds.

Yesterday, we passed along photos of Bowles’ hand and Torres’ cut, and Torres has since posted on Twitter more pics of the gash, which required 20 stitches to close up. The bout capped off “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz,” which took place at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio and aired live on Versus.

Bowles struggled to mount any offense after breaking his right hand in his first punch of the fight, and after being bloodied by the elusive Cruz, who used effective footwork to dodge Bowles’ attempts while tagging him with counters, was forced to call it quits after the second frame.

Cruz improves to 15-1 with his sixth-straight victory, while Bowles will have to wait for his hand to heal before looking to rebound from his first career loss, which dropped him to 8-1.

In the WEC 47 co-headliner, bantamweight contender Joseph Benavidez dominated former title-holder Miguel Torres, eventually gashing him open midway through the second round before securing a guillotine that forced Torres to tap, sealing the upset.

Also on the main card, veteran Jens Pulver likely fought for the final time in his hall of fame career after suffering a first-round submission to Javier Vazquez, while LC Davis and Bart Palaszewski also picked up wins.

The WEC 47 preliminary card featured several highlight reel stoppages, including Scott Jorgensen’s31-second guillotine of Chad George and Anthony Pettis’ head kick KO of Danny Castillo in the opening round. Fredson Paixao and Ricardo Lamas also scored first-round wins on the prelims, while Chad Mendes earned a unanimous decision in his WEC debut.

Featherweights Leonard Garcia and George Roop fought to a split draw on the undercard after Roop lost a point in the final round for a low blow.

“WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz,” which was officially announced on Tuesday, also features the returns of former bantamweight champ Miguel Torres and featherweight Jens Pulver, with opponents for both expected to be announced soon.

The event coincides with the Arnold Sports Festival and airs live on Versus from the Nationwide Arena, which previously hosted UFC 96, UFC 82, and UFC 68 over the past three years.

Province was the lone fighter to test positive on the card, with Miguel Torres, Brian Bowles, Dominick Cruz, Takeya Mizugaki, Leonard Garcia, Shane Roller, Ed Ratcliff and Diego Nunes all passing their screenings for drugs of abuse and performance enhancing drugs.

Methasterone, a “designer steroid” sold in over-the-counter dietary supplements, was added to the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of banned substances in 2005.

Province (6-1) suffered a unanimous decision loss to Diego Nunes in his WEC debut last December at WEC 37, before rebounding with a unanimous decision win over Paixao earlier this month.
