Despite being bloodied in the opening seconds of the fight, top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko did what most predicted he would, scoring a second-round knockout of previously undefeated Brett Rogers on Saturday in the main event of Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers.

In the evening’s co-headliner, Jake Shields was crowned Strikeforce’s middleweight champion with a unanimous decision victory over Jason “Mayhem” Miller.

All 20 fighters who will be in action at tomorrow’s CBS-televised Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers event in Hoffman Estates, Illinois successfully made weight today for their bouts.

Top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko tipped the scale at 232 pounds, while his main event opponent, Brett Rogers, came in 32 pounds heavier at 264 pounds.

Strikeforce heavyweight Brett Rogers, who takes on Fedor Emelianenko in the main event of Saturday’s CBS-televised event, will make live appearances tomorrow on ESPN 2. Rogers will appear at 10am ET on “First Take” and will also be a guest on “Sports Nation” at 4pm ET.

WWE star turned MMA prospect Bobby Lashley is reportedly in talks with Strikeforce to be a part of their upcoming November 7 CBS televised event. Lashley still has two fights left on his contract with Prize Fight Promotions, and was rumored to have a November match-up with Ron Waterman with the promotion. However, MMAFanhouse says they have reason to believe he will be making his Strikeforce debut on the Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers headlined event, though no deal has been signed.

Fabricio Werdum and Brett Rogers, Strikeforce heavyweight contenders mentioned as possible replacements for Josh Barnett, will not be fighting Fedor Emelianenko on August 1 at Affliction: Trilogy.

“It’s safe to say neither Fabricio or Brett will be fighting on Aug. 1,” Strikeforce Director of Communications Mike Afromowitz told MMAjunkie. “The plan is still for Fabricio to fight on Aug. 15, and we hope to have an opponent named soon. As for Brett, nothing is finalized, but he won’t be fighting on Aug. 1.”

Alistair Overeem Withdraws From August 15 Strikeforce Title Defense With Lingering Hand Injury

Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem has withdrawn from his scheduled August 15 title defense against Fabricio Werdum as his hand has still not healed from an injury suffered in a May altercation at an Amsterdam nightclub.

Fanhouse was first to report the withdrawal on Tuesday, adding that Overeem will remain on the card against a different opponent, with it yet to be decided whether an interim title will be on the line for the new matchup.
