Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will make his anticipated return to the promotion on May 15 against Brett Rogers in the main event of “Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery” in St. Louis, Strikeforce today announced.

The Showtime-televised event is also set to feature Andrei Arlovski vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski has a new deal with Strikeforce and will end a near year-long layoff when he returns to action against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at the promotion’s May 15 Showtime-televised event in St. Louis.

Veteran heavyweight Andrei Arlovski is now a free agent after Affliction opted not to re-sign “The Pitbull”, whose contract recently expired following back-to-back losses.

Affliction vice president Tom Atencio confirmed the news on Tuesday with Fighters Only, and also that the company will keep Tim Sylvia under contract for now despite back-to-back losses of his own and that Affliction has no plans for Fedor’s brother Aleksander Emelianenko to fight for them in the future.

Jake Shields needed less than half a round to submit Robbie Lawler in the main event of Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields on Saturday, forcing Lawler to tap to a guillotine choke 2:02 into the opening round of their catchweight headliner. In other main card action, Brett Rogers knocked out Andrei Arlovski in just 22-seconds and Nick Diaz submitted Scott Smith.
