Details on these stories, and many more in our MMAFrenzy Quick Hits.

Lightweight Chris Horodecki is expected to sign with the WEC very soon, according to his trainer Shawn Thompkins. If the deal goes through, the 22-year-old Canadian would enter the organization with a 13-1 record, having suffered his only loss to Ryan Schutlz in the IFL.

Jeff Curran’s next fight will not come under the WEC banner after four consecutive losses in the organization, but will instead be on the undercard of the November 7 “Fedor vs. Rogers” event after “The Big Frog” recently signed a two-fight non-exclusive deal with the promotion. Curran is also expected to compete in his own XFO promotion on December 5th against Tomohiko Hori.

Robbie Lawler is expected to return to action in December, though no opponent has been finalized. MMA Fanhouse reports that Lawler has been offered both Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Nick Diaz as possible opponents for the Strikeforce event, but that Lawler’s manager, Monte Cox, is opposed to the idea of Lawler fighting Souza.

Sean Salmon has been issued a one-year administrative suspension, and fined $2,500 by the Ohio Athletic Commission due to comments in a September column for MMAJunkie.com in which he hinted that he may have intentionally given up a submission in a June fight against Allan Weickert, which took place in Ohio.

Middleweight combatant Xavier Foupa-Pokam is will headline the next edition of Tachi Palace Fights on December 3rd against California based fighter Mike Moreno. He is also scheduled to compete this coming Saturday in Edmonton, Alberta-based Aggression MMA’s inaugural event, where he will look to rebound from his 0-2 stint in the UFC against Chester Post, a fighter with a record of 6-17-1. Other bouts on the Aggression MMA fight card include Jason Lambert vs. Matt Horwich, Travis Fulton vs. Jason Fairn, and Cyrille Diabate vs. Marcus Hicks among others.

Australian MMA Verteran James Te Huna is expected to make his UFC debut at UFC 110 in Australia after recently signing with the promotion.

Dutch heavyweight Gilbert Yvel, under scrutiny due to his past unsportsmanlike actions, was recently granted a one-fight license by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, potentially opening the door for Yvel to fight in the UFC, though there have been no reports that he’s in talks with the organization.

Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem’s manager, Bas Boon, recently stated that Overeem is looking to defend that title in late February or early March, matching the time line for his return that Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker recently laid out for his return.

Former UFC fighters Josh Burkman and Brandon Melendez will meet in the main event of “Throwdown Showdown” on November 20 in Orem, Utah.

WEC featherweight Cole Province on Friday was issued a nine-month suspension and $4,000 fine by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after testing positive for anabolic steroids following his August unanimous decision win over Fredson Paixao at WEC 42, which has since been changed to a no contest.

UFC welterweight Frank Trigg recently underwent successful knee surgery, but his plans to return in early-2010 remain unaffected with Matt Serra considered a potential opponent.

Alexandre “Cacareco” Ferreira (18-6) is reportedly close to signing with the UFC after submitting Walter Mazurkievicz over the weekend at Jungle Fight 15.

The officials over at FEG and DREAM officially made an expected announcement today that they will be holding their annual New Years Eve show again this year, at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. K-1 executive Sadaharu Tanikawa said that the event would follow last year’s hybrid format, including both K-1 bouts and Dream MMA bouts, to fill out an eighteen fight card.

One of the expected K-1 bouts is a farewell fight for two-time champion Masato, in a third contest with Andy Souwer, an opponent he has never defeated.

Among the expected MMA contests rumored for the event are a Dream lightweight title bout between recently crowned champion Shinya Aoki, and the also popular Tatsuya Kawajiri, and the championship bout of the “Super Hulk Tournament” between Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Ikuhisa Minowa.

Other rumored participants at the New Years Eve event are Jerome Le Banner, Alistair Overeem, Kazushi Sakuraba, Hayato “Mach” Sakurai, Tim Sylvia, Kiyoshi Tamura, Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, and Badr Hari.

The previously reported bout between Alistair Overeem and Sam Hoger, slated for an upcoming Shooto event, has been scrapped. Overeem will instead face Tony Sylvster at the Oct. 17 Golden Glory event in Amsterdam. The MMA match-up is among 14 announced for the upcoming hybrid card, which will feature both MMA and K-1 rules fights, according to MMAJunkie.

Overeem is the current Strikeforce heavyweight champion, though he has yet to defend the title he has held for almost two years. Since winning the Strikeforce belt, Overeem has competed four times in MMA and three times in K-1, all in other organizations.

Overeem is also scheduled to compete just eight days after his bout with Sylvester at Dream 12, in the promotions much celebrated new white cage. His Dream 12 opponent is rumored to be Japanese fighter Makoto Kawawa.

Sylvester was last in action against Roger Minton at “ISCF – Bad Intentions,” where he earned a first round TKO victory. He has compiled an 11-2 record over the course of his journeyman career, including a win over recent Houston Alexander victim Sherman Pendergarst, and suffering his two losses to Tim Persey, and Chris Tuchscherer.

Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem, is likely to return to MMA action soon, against former “The Ultimate Fighter” contestant Sam Hoger in the Japanese promotion Shooto. Overeem was twice schedule to defend his Strikeforce belt over the summer, but a hand injury suffered in a bar fight forced both match ups to be scrapped. He has been absent from MMA, competing only in K-1 since November of 2008. According to a report by InsideFights, Overeem and Hoger have verbally agreed to face one another, though the official bout agreements have yet to be signed.

Overeem has compiled a record of 29-11-1 in his MMA career, while also earning a 4-3 record in K-1. In his last seven MMA bouts Overeem has gone 5-1-1 with the only loss coming via knock out form Sergei Kharitonov in September, 2007. Among his victories during that stretch are wins over Paul Buantello, Mark Hunt, and Gary Goodridge.

Hoger was last in action in January of this year, where he earned a submission victory over Johnathan Ivey at URC – Urban Rumble Championship, the second of two consecutive victories. Prior to his two most recent victories, Hoger had been on a three fight losing streak including losses to Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida in his final two UFC bouts.

The Japanese promotional group FEG, which runs the Dream MMA events, has long be suggesting that they had a big surprise in store for their already announced Dream 12 event, which will take place on October 25 in Osaka, Japan. They had already released a short promotional video in which were a few shots of a cage which led some people to believe that would be the surprise. Those people were correct, and Dream has officially confirmed that with a new promotional video for the event (included below).

Since the organizations creation, all of its fights have taken place inside an over sized boxing ring along the lines of the fighting surface popularized by the organization Pride. However the fighting surface for the upcoming Dream 12 will be a six sided cage they have title “The White Cage,” the promotion as appropriately named the October 25 event “Cage of the Rising Sun.”

Also revealed in the promotional video were nine of the fighters to be featured. Those nine fighters are Eddie Alvarez, Paulo Filho, Katsunori Kikuno, Yoshiro Maeda, Andrews Nakahara, Alistair Overeem, Kiyoshi Tamura, and Marius Zaromskis. Another fighter to be featured on the card was revealed on the organizations website, that fighter is Murilo “Ninja” Rua.

Fedor Emelianenko’s recently-announced deal with Strikeforce is an exclusive contract for three fights over one year, according to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, who discussed the signing of Emelianenko and other Strikeforce topics yesterday on TapouT Radio and the Carmichael Dave Show.

“Although the deal with Strikeforce is an exclusive one, it’s far from a contract signed in blood as Fedor is currently contractually obligated to fight for Strikeforce for just one year,” said Coker. “Basically it’s three fights over the next year, and we’ll start in the Fall some time…The very first fight that Fedor fights will be on Showtime, and then the roll-out of television from there forward hasn’t been determined 100%, but his first fight will be on Showtime.”

According to Coker, Strikeforce is planning on having Emelianenko fight Brett Rogers, Fabricio Werdum, and champion Alistair Overeem, though Fedor is unlikely to immediately fight for the title and will instead build up to a fight with Overeem.

“[Fedor] and Alistair Overeem should be an amazing fight, and people that haven’t seen Alistair, you know, he’s an amazing fighter,” said Coker. “I think we should do a couple of fights and build that one up, and then let their champion fight our champion, and let’s see what happens. We’re hoping that Alistair will be ready to fight in the Fall, and we can put him on one of the cards with Fedor, and not fight against each other but fight against someone else, and let’s build that fight up.”

During the appearances, Coker also announced a “alliance” between Strikeforce and FEG, the Japan-based parent company of DREAM and K-1, that will see fighters from both promotions compete at future events.

Coker also confirmed that Jake Shields will fight for the interim Strikeforce middleweight title at an October event against an opponent to-be-announced with 185-pound title-holder Cung Le still out of action while pursuing an acting career. The October event could also host Emelianenko’s Strikeforce debut.

A press conference is being planned for Thursday to announce details on Fedor’s debut, including a date and opponent, as well as the official announcement of an alliance with FEG and other developments.
