Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem and Bellator lightweight title-holder Eddie Alvarez were among the winners on Sunday at DREAM 12 in Osaka, Japan.
Overeem submitted James Thompson with a guillotine choke in under a minute in the DREAM 12 main event, while Alvarez used an arm-triangle choke to defeat Katsunori Kikuno in the second-round of their featured matchup.

Read More »Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem, who has yet to fight again for the promotion since winning the title in November 2007, returned to MMA action overseas over the weekend, dominating Tony Sylvester at Ultimate Glory 11 in Amsterdam, Netherlands before finishing the fight with a guillotine choke in just 83-seconds. Overeem will fight again this weekend at DREAM 12 against James Thomson before he’s expected to return to Strikeforce to defend the title.

Read More »The officials over at FEG and DREAM officially made an expected announcement today that they will be holding their annual New Years Eve show again this year, at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. K-1 executive Sadaharu Tanikawa said that the event would follow last year’s hybrid format, including both K-1 bouts and Dream MMA bouts, to fill out an eighteen fight card.

Read More »Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem, is likely to return to MMA action soon, against former “The Ultimate Fighter” contestant Sam Hoger in the Japanese promotion Shooto. Overeem was twice schedule to defend his Strikeforce belt over the summer, but a hand injury suffered in a bar fight forced both match ups to be scrapped. He has been absent from MMA, competing only in K-1 since November of 2008. According to a report by InsideFights, Overeem and Hoger have verbally agreed to face one another, though the official bout agreements have yet to be signed.

They had already released a short promotional video in which were a few shots of a cage which led some people to believe that would be the surprise. Those people were correct, and Dream has officially confirmed that with a new promotional video for the event (included below).
Read More »Fedor Emelianenko’s recently-announced deal with Strikeforce is an exclusive contract for three fights over one year, according to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, who discussed a variety of Strikeforce topics yesterday on TapouT Radio and the Carmichael Dave Show.
Coker said Strikeforce is planing a Thursday press conference to announce details on Fedor’s debut, and also announced that Jake Shields will be fighting for an interim middleweight title in October and that Strikeforce had formed a “alliance” with DREAM.

Read More »Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem has withdrawn from his scheduled August 15 title defense against Fabricio Werdum as his hand has still not healed from an injury suffered in a May altercation at an Amsterdam nightclub.
Fanhouse was first to report the withdrawal on Tuesday, adding that Overeem will remain on the card against a different opponent, with it yet to be decided whether an interim title will be on the line for the new matchup.
