Mohamed, a former Cage Rage British lightweight champion, declined a deal with the promotion early last year but has now signed on the dotted line to make his octagon debut at the UFC 93, which is headlined by Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson and Mark Coleman vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

No opponent has yet been announced for his UFC debut.

Unlike the early-2007 UFC offer which came on the heels of a six-fight winning streak, the UFC has signed Mohamed after he has won just two of his last five fights, including a Saturday victory over Ross Pearson. Prior to the recent skid Mohamed had won back-to-back bouts over Ross Pointon and Jason Ball.

The most recent news surrounds current CRC lightweight champion Abdul Mohamed (12-4-2 MMA). According to a report on the Cage Rage website, Mohamed has declined a contract to come to the UFC.

    After declining the contract Mohamed is now set to face former UFC fighter Ross Pointon on April 21st at Cage Rage 21: Independence Day. The Cage Rage event and UFC 70 are both set for April 21st in England.

    Mohamed has been the British CRC champion since Cage Rage 13 in late 2005. He has a successful record in MMA and is likely one of the biggest UFC prospects from the popular British MMA promotion. Other notable Cage Rage veterans include UFC fighters Michael Bisping, Chris Lytle, Anderson Silva, and Travis Lutter.

Pointon failed to impress during his time in the UFC losing on TUF finale to Rory Singer. Invited back to compete at UFC Fight Night 8 in January, Pointon suffered another loss, this time to Rich Clementi. His time in the UFC has apparently come to an end as Pointon has signed with  Cage Rage according to their official website.

    Obviously Pointon is far from a “star” of the UFC never recording a win in the octagon. With Cage Rage 21 happening the same night as UFC 70 and both events going down in England we had to expect Pointon’s signing to get a little extra boost with some well placed adjectives. Here’s how Cage Rage describes the sub-.500 fighter:

    “…one the most charismatic and well rounded fighters around…”

    Pointon will be fighting on April 21st at Cage Rage 21 against current their current British lightweight champ Abdul Mohamed, who will be fighting up a weight class to take on Pointon.

    The news is not shocking but somewhat surprising as some rumors had indicated Pointon was remaining in the UFC to fight Dave Menne at UFC 70. The move’s not shocking but you have to give Cage Rage credit for signing a former-UFC fighter and semi-recognized name to fight in their event that is directly comepting with UFC 70.
