Read More »A featherweight matchup between Leonard Garcia and Manny Gamburyan is in the works for WEC 44, according to Sherdog, which reports that both fighters have agreed to the bout and that official agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.
The Versus-televised event, which was originally rumored to take place on November 21, is now expected to take place in Las Vegas on November 18 and features a main event between featherweight champ Mike Brown and Jose Aldo.

The Versus-televised event is headlined by an interim lightweight championship matchup between 155-pound contenders Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson and marks the promotion’s first-ever Saturday event.

White said the liklihood of lighter divisions being added to the UFC was “very good” and that they’d likely be added “real soon,” adding that the promotion is planning on three events per month in 2010 and needs the additional fights to fill the cards.

The entire card has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 10 at a venue to-be-announced and is still set to air live on Versus.

Read More »WEC featherweight Cole Province has failed a Nevada State Athletic Commission drug test following his WEC 42 victory over Fredson Paixao on August 9 in Las Vegas, testing positive for the anabolic steroid Methasterone.
Province was the lone fighter to test positive on the card, with Miguel Torres, Brian Bowles, Dominick Cruz, Takeya Mizugaki, Leonard Garcia, Shane Roller, Ed Ratcliff and Diego Nunes all passing their screenings for drugs of abuse and performance enhancing drugs.

Read More »Twelve fighters who were in action at Saturday’s WEC 42 event in Las Vegas, including headliners Brian Bowles and Miguel Torres, have been issued medical suspensions by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which released the list of injuries on Monday.
As MMAFrenzy.com reported earlier Monday, Bowles suffered a broken left hand in his main event first-round knockout of Torres and must have the injury cleared by a doctor if he hopes to return before the suspension ends on January 8, while Torres is suspended until October 9 for precautionary reasons.
