Ben Henderson, Donald Cerrone, Mackens Semerzier, and Anthony Njokuani earned fight night bonuses for their performances at Saturday’s WEC 43 event at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Ben Henderson was crowned the WEC’s interim lightweight champion on Saturday after earning a unanimous decision victory over Donald Cerrone in an instant classic that headlined WEC 43 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Dave Jansen, Raphael Assuncao, and Damacio Page also picked up main card wins, while Anthony Njokuani, Scott Jorgensen, Mackens Semerzier, Eddie Wineland, Charlie Valencia, and Deividas Taurosevicius were victorious on the WEC 43 prelims.

WEC 43 headliners Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson, along with the rest of the ten-bout card, successfully made weight on Friday at the official fighter weigh-ins for Saturday’s event, which takes place at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Cerrone (154.4) and Henderson (155) meet for the WEC interim lightweight title in the WEC 43 main event, which airs live tomorrow on Versus.

UFC President Dana white hinted at the possibility of the UFC shrinking the Octagon, in a Q&A with Dave Doyle of YahooSports. The reasoning behind it is uncertain, and Dana did not touch on it in the Q&A at all, but I certainly have my reservations.

The WEC has announced four bouts for the preliminary card of its WEC 44: Brown vs. Aldo event on November 18, while two matchups between four MMA newcomers have been added to the undercard of Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers on November 7.

WEC lightweight title-holder Jamie Varner, who’s been sidelined with a broken hand since a January win over Donald Cerrone, is expected to return in December against the winner of Saturday’s WEC 43 fight between Cerrone and Ben Henderson, while Faber, also out with a broken hand suffered in a June loss to Mike Brown, is also likely to return at WEC 45 after recently signing a new multi-fight deal with the promotion.

Weigh-ins for Saturday’s WEC 43 event will take place on Friday, October 9 at Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio, Texas.

Headlined by an interim lightweight championship bout between Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson, WEC 43 takes place on October 10 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio and airs live on Versus.

WEC newcomer Mackens Semerzier is stepping in as a short notice replacement for Erik Koch against Wagnney Fabiano at WEC 43 on October 10. The change in the featherweight bout was announced by Semerzier on his facebook page, and was later confirmed by NWI.com

UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva will undergo elbow surgery after all to remove bone spurs and will be sidelined briefly, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic is not retiring following his latest loss and intends to fight at least once more, at a November 7 Strikforce event headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers will take place at the Sears Centre near Chicago.

The WEC officially announced today that they have scheduled WEC 44 for The Pearl at The Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is scheduled to take place on November 18th, and will be headlined by a featherweight title match between champion Mike Thomas Brown and challenger Jose Aldo.

In addition to this official bout, MMAJunkie is reporting that a bantam weight matchup between Frank Gomez and Seth Dikun has been unofficially added to the card, and FiveKnuckles says that Kyle Dietz will likely face Noah Thomas on the November 18th card.

All six fighters that were drug tested for UFC 102 tested clean, Urijah Faber’s hand has been cleared to hit the punching bag, and Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante has pulled out of his Dream 11 bout due to injury.

A featherweight matchup between Leonard Garcia and Manny Gamburyan is in the works for WEC 44, according to Sherdog, which reports that both fighters have agreed to the bout and that official agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.

The Versus-televised event, which was originally rumored to take place on November 21, is now expected to take place in Las Vegas on November 18 and features a main event between featherweight champ Mike Brown and Jose Aldo.

Overnight, DirecTV dropped Versus, and along with it World Extreme Cagefighting, from its lineup after the contract between the satellite TV provider and network expired and a new deal was unable to be reached due to a disagreement over the terms of the contract.
