Quinton “Rampage” Jackson took home nearly half of the disclosed $762,000 payroll at UFC 96, earning $325,000 for his unanimous decision victory over Keith Jardine in the evening’s headliner. Jardine received $55,000 for the losing effort.

UFC 96 took place on Saturday at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio and the Ohio State Athletic Commission today released the official salaries for the pay-per-view event.

Other top earners included Gabriel Gonzaga ($60,000), Brandon Vera ($60,000), Kendall Grove ($44,000), and Matt Hamill ($40,000).

UFC 96 drew a sell-out crowd of 17,033 for a live gate of $1.8 million.

The official salaries exclude some bonuses (including “fight night” bonuses), taxes, fees, sponsor payments, and other miscellaneous payments and fees.

Topping the list of medical suspensions is former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who was defeated by Forrest Griffin in the night’s main event, who is suspended until January 2nd unless his knee, tibia, fibia, and thumb are cleared by a doctor.

Ten of the event’s eighteen fighters were issued a medical suspension.

Quinton Jackson (defeated by Forrest Griffin via unanimous decision) — Must have left knee, tibia, fibia, and thumb x-rayed and cleared by orthopedic doctor or suspended until January 2nd. Minimum suspension untin August 5th with no contact until July 27th.

Forrest Griffin (defeated Quinton Jackson via unanimous decision) — Must clear right upper eyelid laceration with doctor or suspended until September 4th.

Chris Lytle (defeated by Josh Koscheck via unanimous decision) — Must clear right eye lacerations with doctor or suspended until September 4th.

Josh Koscheck (defeated Chris Lytle via unanimous decision) — Suspended until August 5th with no contact until July 27th.

Marcus Aurelio (defeated by Tyson Griffin via unanimous decision) — Must have possible left thumb ligament injury cleared by orthopedic doctor or suspended until January 2nd. Minimum suspension until August 5th with no contact until July 27th.

Justin McCully (defeated by Gabriel Gonzaga via submission – Round 1) — Must have left shoulder cleared by orthopedic doctor or suspended until January 2nd.

Cole Miller (defeated Jorge Gurgel via submission – Round 3) — Must have facial lacerations cleared by doctor or suspended until September 4th.

Jorge Gurgel (defeated by Cole Miller via submission – Round 3) — Mush have right tibia, fibia, and elbow x-rayed and cleared by orthopedic doctor or suspended until January 2nd.

Dennis Siver (defeated by Melvin Guillard via TKO – Round 1) — Suspended until August 20th with no contact until August 5th.

Justin Buchholz (defeated Corey Hill via submission – Round 2) — Must have scalp laceration cleared by doctor or suspended until September 4th.

“We got robbed,” Ibarra told Sherdog.com Sunday afternoon. “We won the majority of the fight.”

Judges Adalaide Byrd and Nelson Hamilton scored the bout 48-46 for Griffin, while Roy Silbert turned in a 49-46 tally for Griffin.

It’s extremely unlikely that a protest would change the outcome of the fight. Ibarra isn’t hopeful in that regard, but less than 24 hours after his fighter had lost in the UFC for the first time, the coach seemed determined to learn exactly how the fight was scored.

He was baffled that Byrd and Silbert gave Griffin a 10-9 advantage in the first round, during which Jackson dropped the challenger. In Ibarra’s view, the knockdown warranted a 10-8 round in Jackson’s favor. He believes Jackson won the third and fourth rounds on 10-9 scores, though he said Griffin deserved a 10-8 second round and a 10-9 fifth. That comes out to a 47-46 win for Jackson.

“You have to beat the champion,” Ibarra asserted more than once.

An immediate rematch between Griffin and Jackson may be on the horizon. According to Ibarra, Griffin agreed in the cage following the bout to fight “Rampage” again and UFC President Dana White and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta have already been approached about an immediate rematch.

• Edwin Dewees will replace Vernon White against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at Affliction “Banned” on July 19th.
• UFC 89, which is headlined by a clash between rising middleweight contenders Michael Bisping and Chris Leben, will likely be shown on tape delay on Spike TV.
• The Association of Boxing Commissions has passed revised Universal Rules of Mixed Martial Arts at their annual conference in Montreal. Most notably, the revised rules more specifically define illegal strikes to the back of the head and make downward elbows, which were previously banned, legal.
• Anderson Silva wants to fight three more times before the end of the year including his July 19th light heavyweight debut against James Irvin on Spike TV. If Silva emerges victorious (and relatively uninjured) from the main event bout he plans on fighting at UFC 88 on September 6th in Atlanta as well as in November or December. Next up for Silva is 185-pound number-one contender Yushin Okami followed by Patrick Cote.
• Welterweights Ryo Chonan and Roan Carneiro will clash at UFC 88 on September 6th in Atlanta. The fight, which was originally set for UFC 85 in June but postponed due to an injury suffered by Chonan, is a rematch of a February 2005 bout which Chonan won via third-round TKO due to a cut.
• Andrei Arlovski will make his professional boxing debut on September 13th in the opening bout of the Casamayor-Marquez HBO pay-per-view. No opponent has been named for the bout.
• EliteXC has applied for a Nevada promoter’s license to hold events in the state, most likely in Las Vegas. Affliction has not yet filed an application for a Nevada promoter’s license.
• Lightweights Sam Stout and Paul Kelly will square off at UFC 89 on October 18th in Birmingham, England.

Griffin and Jackson were each awarded $60,000 “Fight of the Night” bonuses for their thrilling, five-round main event bout. Griffin overcame Jackson’s power punches with leg kicks and submission attempts to claim the 205-pound title with a unanimous decision victory.

After posting a unanimous decision victory outside of the UFC following back-to-back losses, lightweight Melvin Guillard returned to the octagon in impressive fashion on Saturday, winning the “Knockout of the Night” bonus for his 36-second TKO win over Dennis Siver.

Cole Miller, a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 5, took home “Submission of the Night” honors for his late third-round triangle choke submission of jiu-jitsu black belt Jorge Gurgel.
