Anthony Torres, who was defeated by Jess Liaudin in the first round at UFC 75, has failed a post-fight drug test according to a report from Yahoo Sports. The fighter tested positive for Boldenone, an anabolic steroid.

There is no MMA regulatory commission in England, forcing the UFC to administer its own drug tests and punish fighters for failed tests. In this case Torres was been released from his contract with the organization due to his poor performance, a TKO loss to Liaudin in the opening round.

It is not known if Torres will appeal their findings.

Seven other fighters were also tested at the event and all passed. The additional fighters tested were Quinton Jackson, Dan Henderson, Michael Bisping, Houston Alexander, Dennis Siver, Terry Etim, and Gleison Tibau.

Michael Bisping and Matt Hamill have both released official statements on their thoughts regarding Bisping’s split decision win at UFC 75 in London.

Michael Bisping

As most people will of seen the fight with me and Hamil was a close one. I have seen the controversy surrounding the decision so obviously have to reply. I personally feel he won round 1 and I took rounds 2 and 3. That said it was close and can I understand how some people would think differently. On the night I was given the decision and he wasnt, on another occasion it could of been different.

Looking at message boards it appears that some ( major understatement) people are pissed off about my comments afer the fight. Looking back I should of given hammil more credit as he fought a great fight and has improved his all round game a hell of a lot. What you have to remember is though the adrenalin was running through my veins, I had fought a hard fight and was obviously happy to get the decision. I would like to take this oportuninty to say well done to Matt for fighting great and bringing the fight to me big time, I should have commented on this on the night.

I have contacted the UFC and stated I would like to rematch Hammill at everyones earliest convenience as Im sure most of you know, no fighter wants a win when the decision is debateable. I am happy for the fight to take place where ever, and look forward to settling the score once and for all. I personally feel we put on a great fight for the fans and perhaps people should focus on this more.

I apologise to all my fans who feel let down by anyhting at the weekend, hey Im a young man with alot of emotion and sometimes say things in the heat of the moment.

I’d like to say thanks to everyone who has sent me there messages. Theres been to many to  reply to them all. I will say this though, if Matt Hammils gonna cut me next time he might need a carving knife as Ive definately got thicker skin over the last few days.

After the fight I had a few beers with my freinds and made my way home with all my team. I’d like to say thanks to everyone at the Wolfslair for their continued help and support. Thanks to Team rampage for all there help at big bear and thanks to all my sponsors(tapout,Affliction, premier security and xyience).

Right now Im spending some quality time with my kids as its been hard being away from them for so long.Gonna take a week or so off (gotta let the bruises heel) and then its back to the gym.

Matt Hamill

I would like to thank everyone for their unbelievable support. I fought my heart out in London and feel I should have won the fight. The outpouring of support from people all over the world has touched my heart. It validates my performance to myself and that means as much as a win to me. I think MMA is a great sport and I don’t believe in any kind of a fix. The two judges that scored the win for Bisping obviously need to re-evaluate the way they score a fight. You can’t win a fight when you run for three rounds. They need to study the criteria for scoring an MMA fight: effective striking, grappling, takedowns, aggression and control. Bisping did none of that in my opinion. The UFC has the best MMA in the world and I am proud to be a part of it. I will be fighting in the UFC for a long time. Thanks again to all my fans, especially to all the English fans who came up to me after the fight to tell me I was the winner. I will be back in the octagon very soon and promise to fight my heart out like I always have.

Matt “The Hammer” Hamill

Today Spike TV announced that UFC 75 was the most watched UFC event in history:

The first ever UFC title fight on Spike TV drew a staggering 4.7 million viewers on Saturday, September 8 (9:00pm-12:11am) making it the most watched UFC event ever and the most watched mixed martial arts event ever in North America. The “UFC 75 telecast emanating from the O2 Arena in London, England peaked at 5.6 million for the bout between UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage Jackson and PRIDE champ Dan Henderson. The fight card drew more Men 18-34 and Men 18-49 than anything else on television, broadcast or cable on September 8, including heavy sports competition from college football on ABC and ESPN, NASCAR on ABC, and the U.S. Open Women’s Final on CBS.

“The ratings are further proof that the tide in American sports is changing, said Kevin Kay, General Manager, Spike TV. “Young men, who constitute the Spike TV core audience, prefer the incredible action and athleticism of the UFC to more traditional sports.

“We’re very proud to have added to the rich history of sports in London with this watershed mixed martial arts event,â€? said Dana White, UFC President. “Not only did UFC 75 showcase the bout that unified the 205 lb Pride and UFC titles, it did so in front of a record breaking crowd at the O2 Arena in London, and in front of the largest U.S. audience to ever tune in to an MMA card during its Spike TV telecast.â€?

“UFC 75 on Spike TV scored 2,503,000 Men 18-49 compared to 2.3 million for Oregon vs. Michigan on ABC; 2.1 million for NASCAR on ABC; 1.3 million for Virginia Tech vs. LSU on ESPN; 1.3 million for Notre Dame vs. Penn St on ESPN, and 546,000 for the U.S. Open Women’s Final on CBS.

“UFC 75 on Spike TV scored 1,622,000 Men 18-34 compared to 1.2 million for Oregon vs. Michigan on ABC; 717,000 for NASCAR on ABC; 656,000 million for Virginia Tech vs. LSU on ESPN; 687,000 for Notre Dame vs. Penn St on ESPN and 190,000 for the U.S. Open Women’s Final on CBS.

Overall, the Spike TV telecast drew a 3.1 rating (3.0 million homes), 5.7 Men 18-34 (1.6 million), 4.5 in M18-49 (2.5 million), and 6.2 rating in M25-34 (1.0 million).

*****

The Ultimate Fighter 6, which will debut next Wednesday following UFC Fight Night 11, has a chance to be a standout season for the reality series. Its debut will come on the heels of a massive event and Spike will be looking to capture a sizeable group of the people who tuned in for UFC 75 and convert them into regular viewers. The show has seen declining viewers in the past several seasons and the large audience could help boost that number this year. The show has also made minor rule adjustments to enhance the competition.

Stay tuned to MMAFrenzy.com over the coming months as we go in-depth on The Ultimate Fighter will show previews, recaps, and more.

UFC President Dana White, UFC commentator Joe Rogan, and judges Jeff Mullen and Cecil Peoples have all released their thoughts on the UFC 75 bout between Matt Hamill and Michael Bisping. The fight was a split decision victory awarded to Bisping though the vast majority feel Hamill did enough to secure the win. More than a day has passed but the comments continue to come in on the controversial decision.

Thanks goes out to Fightlinker for rounding up the quotes.

Dana White (UFC President)

Do you know how many times I’ve been in the TUF Gym and after two rounds thought to myself, ‘Well, we’re going to a third round,’ and they come up with a winner? Sometimes what these judges do is hard to believe. But let me tell you this: I know what these kids put into these fights and there is no amount of money in the world that would make me take a fight away from them.

I don’t give a (expletive). We have a different model from boxing. Bisping is a big star in the U.K., but one loss doesn’t kill a guy in the UFC. Rampage Jackson beat Chuck Liddell and now he and Chuck are both huge stars. It’s a different thing than boxing. But bottom line, not a chance in the world I’d even think of trying to influence the judges.

These controversies that come up don’t mean a thing to me and they roll off my back with no problem because I know it’s all (expletive). We’re the top dogs and every little thing we do is news and people create these wacky (expletive) conspiracies. The bottom line is, we’ve embraced regulation, we want the sport to be regulated everywhere, but I’m not going to stop putting fights in the U.K. just because they don’t have a commission.

Joe Rogan (UFC Commentator)

I’ve gotten a ton of emails about this, and I’ve seen all the threads here about it so I thought I would make a reply. I thought that clearly the most damage in the fight was done by Hamill in the first round. That was really the only time anyone was hurt. Hamill hit Bisbing with a huge right hand and had him hurt very badly. Hamill got some takedowns after that, but was unable to do any significant damage from them.

As for scoring, I just walked in the door from London, so I’ll have to look at the fight again and see what I think, but I remember when the fight was over I thought that if I had to bet, I would say that Hamill was going to walk away with a close decision. The first round was clearly his, the second was probably his as well, and I thought Bisbing did enough to win the third.

At the time I honestly didn’t think the decision was that crazy. We see so many f***ing weird scorecards in the UFC that maybe I’m just getting used to it.

For instance, if I’m not mistaken, one of the judges in the Clay Guida vs Marcus Arellio fight scored the fight for Arellio, and I thought that was just f***ing insane. Fortunately the other two saw it for Guida and he walked away with the win, but it’s an example of how goofy the scoring can be sometimes.

As for anyone telling me what to say or who to put the emphasis on during the commentary, I can tell you 100% that it has never happened. The ONLY thing that the ufc has ever asked me not to do, was mention Pride by name when they were in the middle of negotiations and s*** was getting ugly between them. This was around the time when they had Wanderlei come into the UFC and challenge Chuck with a Pride T shirt on, and the UFC had felt like they were getting played and that Pride was using the negotiations to get free publicity for Pride in the USA and that they didn’t really have intentions to have any of their fighters come over here.

I thought regardless of the decision, the Hamill Bisbing fight was very entertaining, and both guys fought their hearts out. Coming on here and s***ting on Bisbing for his performance is just ignorant. He did his best against a powerful guy that surprised him with some new found skills and a good game plan. The decision isn’t going to hurt Hamill in any way, and in fact it probably made him some new fans. It’s certainly not going to hurt him in the long run with the UFC. If I was advising Bisbing, I would probably tell him to drop down to 185. He walks around at 205 with a little body fat, and if he changed his diet and concentrated on the lighter weight class I think it suits his frame more.

I think there have been some really insightful posts on here about scoring, and some very good suggestions. One of them that I think we should look in to, is announcing the scorecards after each round. That could possibly help, and the only downside I can think of is that it would make some guys that are ahead ease up and take fewer chances because they know they’ve got a win in the bank if they can just coast. A way around that would be finishing bonuses for a submission or KO.

Overall though, I think this decision outlines a real problem that we have in this sport using a scoring system that was designed for boxing. I believe we need to use a more comprehensive system that quantifies each aspect of the sport. It’s not going to be easy to come up with, but I think that decisions like this are going to eventually force a change. Personally, I prefer the scoring that they used in Pride where they judge the fight as a whole and count the damage being scored at the end more highly.

Jeff Mullen (Scored the fight 29-28 Bisping)

Hello to everyone on the Underground. I have been reading the underground for years. I used to post quite a bit. Then I decided it would be better for me to stay out of all the arguments. I want to thank all of you guys for being so nice to me through the years. I have seen almost no negative posts about me here until now.

I first started judging the UFC in 1996. I have been judging UFC almost twice as long as any other active judge. I am a former kick boxer and have been training grappling for 13 years. I am not here to argue with any of you or tell you that your opinion is wrong. I am only going to tell you why I judged the fight the way I did. Watch the fight again and turn off the sound. Commentary can color what you see.

No doubt Bisping dominated the 1st. He hurt Bisping with a right hand right off the bat and again near the end of the round. He out scored Bisping and busted him up. It was a very impressive round for Hamill but still a 10-9 round. Not dominate enough for a 10-8. Watch the beginning of the second round closely. When Hamill throws the jab, Bisping slips the punch and hits him with his own counter jab. It is hard to see on camera because Hamill?s back is to the camera. His back was also to Goldie who was talking like the beginning of this round was like a continuation of the 1st. If you look you will see that Hamill is facing me giving me a clear view of what is landing. Bisping was landing the jab again and again and not getting hit.

Hamill got 2 takedowns in rounds 2 and 3 but did very little with them. Bisping is using an active guard trying to turn for armbars and sweeps, Hamill is doing very little on top. Bisping is keeping him from scoring or improving his position. In the 3rd round Bisping actually lands more punchesd from the bottom than Hamill does from the top. In both the 2nd and 3rd rounds Bisping does more scoring. Striking.

Under pride style scoring Hamill would have won. He did more damage, but it was all in the 1st round. By 10 point must system Bisping won the fight 2 rounds to 1 . 29-28 Bisping. Sometime the angle you see the fight effects your decision. That is why they put the judges on 3 different sides.

BY THE WAY MARIO YAMASAKI THOUGHT BISPING WON ROUNDS 2 AND 3 ALSO. MARIO WAS THE REF AND HAD A BETTER VIEW THAN ANY OF US. I have never taken a payoff as some of you have suggested and never will. You may not agree with my decision but please don?t question my honesty.

Thank you
Jeff Mullen

Cecil Peoples (Scored the fight 29-28 Bisping)

I gave Bisping the second round, first because Hamill was beginning to run out of gas after the first round. Bisping fought like he wanted that fight. He came back aggressive [from the first round]. Hamill did take him down, but he did nothing with the takedown. Overall, Bisping was more aggressive. Hamill just held him down. Bisping’s punching was more effective.

I have no vested interest in either one of them. I could probably walk past both of them on the street and still not know who they are.

We have yet to hear publicly from judge Chris Watts who awarded the fight to Hamill with a score of 30-27. If and when he speaks on the fight I will pass it along.

A questionable split decision victory which was awarded to The Ultimate Fighter 3 winner Michael Bisping over Matt Hamill has caused a uproar among fans and overshadowed a 5-round title fight and other dominating performances on an action-packed card.

In the main event of the evening Dan Henderson appeared hesitant and ineffective as Quinton Jackson controlled the former-PRIDE champion on the ground while interspersing striking throughout to rack up points. Henderson did not go down without a fight but was overwhelmed by Jackson’s strong ground game and came up short with scores of 48-47, 49-46, and 49-46 all being awarded to the UFC Champion.

Henderson opened up strong in round one taking Jackson down and using short knees to the body but round two showed a distinct change in pace. After a takedown from Henderson Jackson got the upper hand controlling the top position for the majority of the round using body strikes to rack up points. Round three was the most even (and could have been scored in favor of either fighter) with both fighters trading strikes on their feet and on the ground. The fourth round opened with a hard combination from Rampage that allowed him to take the fight to the ground and keep it there of a majority of the round to secure another round. In the final round desperation started to show with Henderson needing a knockout to secure the win. His opportunity never came as Jackson neutralized his opponents attempts to secure a unanimous decision win becoming the Unified Light Heavweight Champion of the world.

In the most controversial (and talked about) decision in recent history Michael Bisping was awarded split decision win over Matt Hamill. The win even came as a surprise to Bisping’s home crowd in London who booed the winner despite cheering him on throughout the bout. Hamill appeared a different fighter in London still displaying his impressive takedowns but displaying a much improved standup game than many expected. Despite wrestling through his previous fights Hamill changed the pace in his bout taking Bisping down on nearly every kick attempt he made but allowed him to return to his feet showing confidence in his newfound striking.

Bisping fought the match much like a boxing match move quickly around the octagon using short, crisp strikes throughout while avoiding much of what Hamill was throwing at him. The turning point on the scorecards likely came on the ground where Hamill allowed his opponent to return to his feet several times and the decision cost him. The judges awarded Bisping a split decision win with scores of 29-28, 29-28, and 27-30. The very questionable decision prompted fan upheavel and questions over just how legitimate Michael Bisping actually is.

In other main card action Cheick Kongo dominated Mirko “Cro Cop” for the majority for their fight and showed much-improved ground game to secure the win. Despite several errant knees to Mirko’s groin Kongo frustrated Cro Cop throughout avoiding most of his offense and controlling the pace of the fight. The judges handed down a trio of 29-28 scores for Kongo handing Cro Cop back-to-back losses and likely removing him from UFC heavyweight title contention.

In a fight that resulted in the submission of the night Marcus Davis recovered from a kick to the head and near stoppage to lock in an armbar late in the first round. Paul Taylor caught “The Irish Hand Grenade” early in the round with a right high kick that sent him to the ground. After several hammer fists and a near-stoppage Davis recovered to take the dominant position eventually catching Taylor in the fight-ending armbar to secure another UFC victory.

Opening the main card Houston Alexander showed his power with another knockout win in 1:01 over Alessio Sakara. “The Assassin” opened the round by rocking Sakara with a pair of knees. Although he briefly recovered Alexander quickly caught up with him and landed another devastating knee that sent him to the ground where Alexander pounced and unleashed strikes until the fight was stopped.

In undercard action England’s Terry Etim was defeated in front of his home crowd losing a unanimous decision to Gleison Tibau. Tomasz Drwal put on an impressive first round in his UFC debut but Thiago Silva returned with a strong second round winning by technical knockout at 4:23 of the second. Dennis Siver controlled his fight from the beginning taking Naoyuki Kotani to the ground and using effective strikes to open a gash on his forehead. Siver caught Kotani early in the second with a left hook and followed it up with a right that ended the fight at 2:04. Jess Liaudin dominated from the start in his fight against Anthony Torres landing several near knockouts before he sent Torres to the ground and finished him off with more strikes.

More than 20,000 fans packed the O2 arena for the event which sold more tickets in England than any fight card in over 10 years.

Up next for the UFC is two more events before the end of September. The UFC will return to Spike on September 19th for UFC Fight Night 11 and will then head to Anaheim for UFC 76 on September 22nd.

Round-by-Round Coverage

Round 1: The touch gloves to start the fight ad both come out swinging. They quickly clinch on the fence with Jackson throwing short knees. Henderson swings to the outside and counters with solid knees and elbows to Jackson. The crowd begins to boo after fight stalls but the action picks up momentarily. Jackson controls Henderson well and goes for a shot as Henderson releases the clinch but he immediately returns and takes Quinton to the ground and works into side control. Henderson throws knees to the body while Jackson throws strikes to Henderson’s head. Some of the shots are close to the back of Dan’s head prompting a warning from Big John. Jackson springs up when he gets the chance and they clinch again against the fence. Henderson is focusing on knees to the outside of Rampage’s legs in the clinch. A few body shots from Jackson. They break the clinch momentarily late in the round and trade blows with Henderson landing the most solid shot then lock up again until the end of the round. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for Henderson

Round 2: Henderson works the fight to the ground early in the round and gains side control over Jackson. Henderson and Jackson continue on the ground with muted strikes until Jackson springs to his feet but Henderson immediately clinches with Rampage. Henderson pulls Jackson down in an attempted takedown but Quinton gets the dominant position. He utilizes elbows from half guard to Henderson’s body in his first chance at the top position while Dan Henderson continues to move and look for an opportunity to escape but it doesn’t come as Jackson controls Hendo for the remainder of the round. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for Quinton Jackson.

Round 3: The third round starts with some striking from both fighters with Jackson eventually landing a good combination that gives him the opportunity to take Henderson to the ground. Henderson attempts for a kimura but Rampage rolls out of it. Rampage escapes to his feet and they briefly clinch before trading knees and strikes to end the round. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for Jackson in a round that could go either way.

Round 4: Jackson gets a significant advantage early in the fourth connecting with a solid combination that sends Henderson to the ground allowing Jackson to throw hard strikes. He eventually draws in closer to Henderson who controls Jackson’s hands locking Quinton up and keeping him from being effective on the ground. Jackson remains in half guard and continues to control the ground game. The fighters remain active on the ground with shots to the body but the referee urges the fighters on as the pace slows. The fight is stopped and restarted on their feet. Henderson goes for a back kick that misses. Jackson connects with a good combination that sends Henderson fleeing. They toe-to-toe but the clock is ticking down and neither fighter risks anything in the final seconds of the round. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for Jackson.

Round 5: Henderson attempts to set up a right early in the round but Jackson lands a solid shot but Henderson isn’t shaken. Quinton regains his composure and pushes the action but Henderson connects again and is able to take Jackson to the ground. Henderson pushes Jackson against the cage and throws hard shots hoping some connect. Jackson sits against the cage looking to return to his feet. MMAFrenzy.com scores the final round 10-9 for Henderson. The judges score the fight 48-47, 49-46, and 49-46 in favor of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson allowing the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion to retain his title.

Michael Bisping def. Matt Hamill via split decision (29-28, 29-28, 27-30)

Round 1: Hamill quickly comes out from his corner and it starts as a slugfest with both throwing wild punches and knees. Bisping is avoiding the clinch but Hamill finally scores the takedown. Hamill surprisingly allows Bisping to return to his feet and they continue the fight on their feet. The pace slows slightly with both trading short jabs and combinations. Bisping goes for multiple inside leg kicks landing several before Hamill catches one and send Bisping to the mat. He quickly returns to his feet but Hamill lands solid punches and cuts Bisping open under his eyes. Bisping counters with a solid right but Hamill counters yet again. They scramble in the final second and referee is slow to make Hamill aware that the round is over. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for Hamill.

Round 2: Bisping comes out more agressive early in the round with short combinations but Hamill scores a takedown and Bisping closes guard. They remain on the ground briefly but Hamill does little to keep it there and they both return to their feet. Bisping looks much more confident in round number 2. They lock up briefly against the fence then separate again to trade strikes. Hamill secures another takedown but they return to their feet immediately. Bisping continues to deliver solid jabs but nothing is connecting for either fighter. Bisping racks up a nice combination in the final seconds of the round with Hamill now cut on his nose. MMAFrenzy.com scores round two 10-9 for Michael Bisping.

Round 3: Bisping opens the round up with the best striking of the match so far connecting on several shots. Hamill looks to score a takedown but Bisping does a good job and avoids the attempt to keep the fight standing. He shakes off another takedown attempt by Hamill. Bisping is remaining focused on punching but nothing solid is landed. Hamill finally is successful and takes Bisping to the mat. Hamill looks for several submissions but Bisping counters them all before he finally returns to his feet. They trade strikes before Hamill takes him down again pushing into Bisping’s guard. Bisping seems to be getting the best of the ground exchange with strikes and armbar attempts but Hamill spins into side control. Bisping powers out and returns to his feet. Bisping pours it on late in the round with strikes and defends a final takedown attempt by Hamill that might have secured the win. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for Michael Bisping. The judges score the bout in favor of Bisping 29-28, 29-28, and 27-30 to give the Brit a split decision victory.
