Spike TV Decided Not to Air UFC 72

Apparently the decision to make UFC 72 a PPV event as opposed to free was Spike’s decision. Here’s an email a member on the Sherdog forums received from Spike regarding the change:

Think Again! UFC 72 on Pay-Per-View

Despite the UFC announcing on UFC.com that the event would be free on Spike, the UFC has apparently changed their mind deciding to air the event on pay-per-view in the US, Canada and UK. This is a shock to most fans who were expecting to see the rather weak event for free on Spike.

Rumor: Okami Signed to Replace Kampmann

Yesterday it was announced that Martin Kampmann (3-0 UFC) had been forced to withdraw from his main event fight with Rich Franklin (8-1 UFC) at UFC 72 due to a knee injury. The UFC has “reached a deal” with HBO to show fights on the network this summer, albeit with a different broadcasting crew than the UFC traditionally uses. UFC 72 in June has already been announced for Spike TV so we are probably looking UFC 73 and beyond before we see an event on HBO.
