The UFC has issued medical suspensions to seven fighters who were in action at Saturday’s UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi, including unsuccessful middleweight challenger Demian Maia and preliminary card winner Rick Story, who were both suspended for up to 180 days for injuries suffered in their bouts.

Following widespread criticism of middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s antics against challenger Demian Maia as well as questions over the scoring of Frankie Edgar’s upset of lightweight champ BJ Penn, yet another controversy has emerged from Saturday’s UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.

As seen after the jump, Silva’s gloves were not taped for his matchup with Maia, but according to cutman Stitch Duran it was a simple oversight that he promised won’t happen again.

After dropping his UFC debut to former welterweight champ Matt Hughes at Saturday’s UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi, veteran Renzo Gracie promised he’ll return the UFC and vowed to come back in better shape, though whether he’ll drop to lightweight hasn’t been decided.

Unsuccessful middleweight challenger Demian Maia apologized in a post-fight interview for his slow start against “disrespectful” 185-pound title-holder Anderson Silva in the main event of Saturday’s UFC 112, but says he’ll be training for a rematch.

At the post-fight press conference for Saturday’s UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi, UFC President Dana White unsurprisingly said he was “embarrassed” by the actions of middleweight champ Anderson Silva in a successful-but-criticized title defense over Demian Maia.

It goes without saying that the 50-45 scorecard is a bit absurd, however if we’re being completely honest, I don’t believe either party really “won” in the lightweight case of Penn v. Edgar. Frankie Edgar didn’t take the coveted gold plated leather strap so much as Penn let it slowly slip away. And a guy like Frankie Edgar is simply too skilled and hungry to leave anything on the table.

Mark Munoz, Kendall Grove, Rafael dos Anjos, and DaMarques Johnson each earned $75,000 ‘fight night’ bonuses on Saturday for their performances at “UFC 112: Invincible,” the UFC’s first-ever outdoor event which aired live on pay-per-view from Abu Dhabi.

Munoz and Grove earned “Fight of the Night,” dos Anjos scored “Submission of the Night,” and Johnson picked up “Knockout of the Night.”

Following his surprising upset loss to Frankie Edgar at Saturday’s “UFC 112: Invincible,” former lightweight title-holder BJ Penn posted a video on his official website thanking his fans for their support and congratulating Edgar for fighting a “great fight” and becoming the champion.

A lightweight bout between Paul Taylor and John Gunderson, scheduled for today’s “UFC 112: Invincible” in Abu Dhabi, has been scratched from the event’s preliminary card after Taylor failed to be medically cleared for the contest.

The UFC has announced that Taylor was forced off the card due to “last-minute medical issues,” which multiple reports indicate are complications from his weight cut, including a migraine.
