Following events on back to back weekends earlier this month, the UFC has released several fighters from their contracts following losing performances. Quick Hits: “Strikeforce: Evolution” and WEC 45 Ratings, Diego Sanchez Recovering, Jon Jones Appeal Denied, and More

Strikeforce won its head-to-head battle with the WEC on Saturday, as its “Evolution” event on Showtime, headlined by Cung Le vs. Scott Smith, drew 341,000 viewers, while 330,000 tuned in for WEC 45 on Versus, featuring a main event between Donald Cerrone and Ed Ratcliff.

In other news, UFC 107 headliner Diego Sanchez says he is “90% healed” from his loss to BJ Penn on December 12 while the NSAC has denied Jon Jones’ appeal of his disqualification loss to Matt Hamill earlier this month.

UFC 107 Medical Suspensions: Buentello, Guida, and Wiman Out Longest

Main card fighters Diego Sanchez, Paul Buentello and Clay Guida were among eighteen fighters issued medical suspensions on Tuesday by he Tennessee Athletic Commission on Tuesday, stemming from bouts at UFC 107 which took place at the Fedex Forum in Memphis on December 12.

Sanchez lost a title bout to BJ Penn in the events headlining bout will have to sit out 60 days with no contact unlessed cleared by a doctor. While Clay Guida is suspended 180, which can be shortened by a clearance from an ophthalmologist for a possible eye injury suffered in his loss to Kenny Florian, and Buentello is suspended indefinitely pending rib X-rays following his majority decision loss to Stefan Struve.

UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn dominated challenger Diego Sanchez from start to finish on Saturday in the main event of UFC 107 in Memphis, Tennessee, dropping Sanchez in the opening seconds of the fight and bludgeoning him with superior boxing throughout the bout before ultimately opening up a fight-ending gash in the fifth round to retain the 155-pound title.

Frank Mir, Kenny Florian, Jon Fitch, and Stefan Struve also picked up wins on the UFC 107 main card.

UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn and challenger Diego Sanchez successfully make weight on Friday for their UFC 107 matchup, which headlines Saturday’s pay-per-view event in Memphis, Tennessee.

Todd Duffee Off UFC 107; Struve, Russow Possible Opponents for Buentello

Heavyweight prospect Todd Duffee (6-0), who earned a UFC-record 7-second knockout of Tim Hague in August in his UFC debut, has been forced with withdraw from his UFC 107 matchup with a returning Paul Buentello due to an undisclosed injury.

Duffee confirmed the withdrawal on Tuesday with Sherdog, which also spoke to Buentello, who says Stefan Struve and Mike Russow have been proposed as potential opponents for the main card fight.

A knee injury has forced Thiago Alves to withdraw from his rematch with fellow welterweight contender Jon Fitch at UFC 107 on December 12, according to Fanhouse. Reports indicate Alves should be able to return early next year and the rematch is likely to be postponed to UFC 108 in January or UFC 109 in February.

Thiago Alves Tapped to Rematch Jon Fitch at UFC 107

After an injury forced Ricardo Almeida to withdraw from their scheduled UFC 106 fight, Jon Fitch is now expected to rematch Thiago Alves at UFC 107 on December 19 in Memphis, Tennessee, according to MMAjunkie, which reports that the welterweight matchup is in the works, while Alves’ original UFC 107 opponent, Paulo Thiago, will be booked for another bout.

In their first meeting at UFC Fight Night 5 in mid-2006, Fitch earned a second-round technical knockout of Alves.
