UFC 106 Medical Suspensions: Forrest Griffin, Anthony Johnson Among 10 Suspended

Forrest Griffin and Anthony Johnson were among the 10 fighters in action at Saturday’s UFC 106 event in Las Vegas who were issued suspensions from the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Monday stemming from their bouts.

Griffin, who defeated Tito Ortiz in the UFC 106 main event, has been suspended until May unless cleared early by a doctor for a right foot injury. Luiz Cane, Marcus Davis, Brock Larson, and Jason Dent were also issued six-month suspensions after suffering injuries in losses on the card.

UFC 106 Fighter Salaries: Griffin and Ortiz Each Earn $250,000 as Payroll Tops $1 Million

UFC 106 headliners Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz, former light heavyweight champions who squared off at Saturday’s pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, each earned $250,000 for their matchup, which saw Griffin pick up a split decision victory to even their career series at 1-1.

Griffin and Ortiz accounted for nearly half of the event’s $1,021,000 payroll, with Josh Koscheck and Antonio Rogerio each earning over $100,000 for their UFC 106 main card wins.

Koscheck, Johnson, and Nogueira Awarded UFC 106 Bonuses

Josh Koscheck, Anthony Johnson, and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira were the recipients of the “fight night” bonuses for Saturday’s UFC 106 event is Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White announced at the card’s post-fight press conference.

Koscheck earned “Submission of the Night” by forcing Johnson to tap to a rear naked choke in the second-round of their UFC 106 co-headliner, while the bout also earned the pair “Fight of the Night” honors. Nogueira took home “Knockout of the Night” for his first-round KO of Luiz Cane in his UFC debut.

Karo Parisyan Withdraws From UFC 106 Bout With Dustin Hazelett, Will Not Fight Again in the UFC

Karo Parisyan has withdrawn from his UFC 106 welterweight matchup with Dustin Hazelett just two days before Saturday’s pay-per-view event in Las Vegas and will “not be fighting again in the UFC,” UFC President Dana White announced today on Twitter.

“Karo Parisyan has f***** over the UFC, the fans and his opponent again. He will not be fighting Saturday or ever again in the UFC,” wrote White. “Pulled out of the fight the day before weigh-ins again with a laundry list of excuses. Let the press ask Karo why. Let him explain.”

Brock Lesnar Off UFC 106 Due to Illness, Title Defense Against Shane Carwin Moved to UFC 108 in January

UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled title defense against Shane Carwin at UFC 106 on November 21 in Las Vegas due to an illness that has prevented him from training for nearly a month, UFC President Dana White confirmed to Yahoo! Sports on Monday.

According to a post by Carwin on Twitter, the fight has been rescheduled for UFC 108 on January 2 in Las Vegas, leaving Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin to headline UFC 106.
