Josh Koscheck To Co-Headline UFC 106

Welterweight Josh Koscheck has announced via Twitter that he’ll be co-headlining UFC 106 on November 21 in Las Vegas.

An opponent has not yet been announced for the bout, a late-addition to bolster the card currently headlined by Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin after losing Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin, its original main event, on Monday. One potential opponent, Matt Hughes, has reportedly turned down the short-notice matchup, with Anthony Johnson now the speculated front-runner.

UFC 104 Medical Suspensions: Machida Sidelined 60 Days; Barry Out Up To Six Months

UFC 104 winners Lyoto Machida and Patrick Barry were among eight fighters from Saturday’s event in Los Angeles who were issued medical suspensions by the California State Athletic Commission on Tuesday.

Machida, the UFC’s light heavyweight champ who won a controversial decision over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the UFC 104 headliner, was suspended for 60 days for a lip laceration, potentially delaying an immediate rematch with Rua that was reportedly being planned for UFC 108 on January 2.

UFC 104 Fighter Salaries: Headliners Machida and Rua Top Payroll

UFC light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, who headlined Saturday’s UFC 104 event in Los Angeles, topped the pay-per-view event’s disclosed $922,000 fighter payroll, according to figures released Tuesday by the California State Athletic Commission.

Machida earned an event-high $200,000 for his controversial main event win over Rua, while “Shogun” received $155,000 for his efforts. Other top earners included Joe Stevenson ($94,000), Cain Velasquez ($70,000), and Chael Sonnen ($54,000).

Patrick Barry scored an extra $120,000 on Saturday, earning two $60,000 “Fight Night” bonuses for his second-round knockout of Antoni Hardonk at “UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun” at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Hardonk and Stefan Struve also picked up $60,000 bonuses for their showings at last night’s pay-per-view event.

Lyoto Machida, “Shogun” Rua Agree to Immediate Rematch

UFC light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua have agreed to an immediate rematch following Machida’s controversial decision win over Rua on Saturday in the main event of UFC 104.

“I thought “Shogun” won the fight. I think there will be a rematch.” said UFC President Dana White at the post-fight press conference. “I talked to both of them and they both agreed to a rematch.”

Anthony Johnson Talks Missing Weight for UFC 104, Will Eventually Move to Middleweight

Welterweight Anthony Johnson, who weighed in 6 pounds over the 170 pound division limit on Friday for tonight’s UFC 104 event, talks to Heavy.com about missing weight and a future move up to middleweight.

“I was in the sauna for an hour and I lost three or four pounds right off the bat. I knew it was coming off. That’s why I said that if I had another hour or two, I would have been able to make it. I got out of the sauna, and I think I was out too long because my sweating stopped, and when I got back in the sauna I couldn’t get anything else off. That’s what broke me.”

All twenty-two fighters who will be in action at Saturday’s UFC 104 event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles hit the scales today to weigh in for their bouts. Light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida (202.5) and challenger Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (204.5) successfully made weight for the UFC 104 main event, as did co-headliners Cain Velasquez (238) and Ben Rothwell (265).

Anthony Johnson, Josh Neer, and Gleison Tibau were the only fighters who failed to make weight, but their fights will go on as scheduled.
