According to a Yahoo Sports report, Silva's manager, Ed Soares, approached UFC President Dana While following Silva's KO of Griffin at Saturday's UFC 101 event in Philadelphia about a long-term move to 205.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (pictured) could soon relinquish the 185-pound title he currently holds to remain at light heavyweight, where he’s 2-0 with back-to-back first-round knockouts of James Irvin and Forrest Griffin.

According to a Yahoo Sports report, Silva’s manager, Ed Soares, approached UFC President Dana While following Silva’s KO of Griffin at Saturday’s UFC 101 event in Philadelphia about a long-term move to 205:

That Silva could move up a weight class and not just win, but destroy with power, was a game-changing and perhaps UFC-altering moment. That’s what Silva and his manager, Ed Soares, wanted to discuss with White.

With his arm wrapped around White’s shoulder, Soares leaned in and delivered a proposition. “Spider” Silva would move permanently to light heavyweight, even if it meant the unorthodox move of giving up his middleweight belt.

“I can do that,” White smiled, a bit stunned at the offer. “I like that. We can do that.”

Soares smiled and shook White’s hand. Silva had been accosted by a fan by then and couldn’t hear White, but it was presumably the news he was seeking. The man has such outrageous confidence in his abilities he’s willing to potentially toss away a championship he’s owned for almost three years to take a challenge outside his comfort zone.

“I’d let him,” White said later, sitting in his quiet dressing room. “We’d put [the middleweight title] up for grabs.”

Silva had been expected to return to middleweight for his next fight to defend the title against Dan Henderson, but the matchup could be off if the UFC opts to keep Silva at light heavyweight. Complicating matters is Silva’s friendship with current light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida, with the pair vowing that they won’t fight eachother.

In a related video, Henderson was cageside in Philadelphia to watch Silva’s win over Griffin and is convinced he’d be able to beat Silva up and win a possible rematch:

However, according to Joe Ferraro of Sportsnet’s “MMA Connected”, Griffin’s jaw is “fine”:

Source has confirmed that the reports that Forrest has a broken jaw and was the reason he ran out of the octagon are false. His jaw is fine.

At the post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White said he hadn’t seen Griffin following the knockout and had no idea where he’d gone or why he left, though White added that he believed Griffin simply bolted from the Octagon as a result of his being an emotional fighter.

What injuries Griffin suffered in the defeat, if any, are not yet known as the card’s medical suspensions have yet to be released, but should be available in the coming days.

UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn retained his title on Saturday in the main event of UFC 101, submitting Kenny Florian in the fourth-round of their championship headliner to cap off the pay-per-view event, which took place at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.

In the UFC 101 co-headliner, UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva returned to the light heavyweight division and silenced his critics, following up back-to-back lackluster wins with a first-round knckout of former 205-pound champ Forrest Griffin.

UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn (pictured) retained his title on Saturday in the main event of UFC 101, submitting Kenny Florian in the fourth-round of their championship headliner to cap off the pay-per-view event, which took place at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.

After stunning Florian several times over the first three rounds and stifling the challenger’s takedown attempts, Penn got a takedown of his own before taking Florian’s back. After softening him with kicks to the body, Penn secured a rear naked choke and Florian was forced to submit 3:54 into the fourth frame.

Penn (14-5-1) rebounds from a January welterweight loss to champion Georges St-Pierre by winning his fourth-straight fight at 155-pounds, while the loss for Florian (11-4), his first in nearly three-years, snaps a six-fight winning streak.

In the UFC 101 co-headliner, UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva returned to the light heavyweight division and silenced his critics, following up back-to-back lackluster wins with a first-round knckout of former 205-pound champ Forrest Griffin.

After an aggressive start by Griffin that saw him miss with a head kick attempt, Silva tagged Forrest with punches, sending him to the canvas twice, and taunted him to attack, leaving his hands at his waist. As Griffin again pressed forward Silva backpeddled, but connected with a compact right that sent Forrest to the canvas for a third and final time as the referee immediately stepped in and stopped the fight.

Knocked unconscious by the awkward-yet-powerful punch, Griffin quickly returned to his feet and ran out of the Octagon while Silva celebrated his return to form. “The Spider” (25-4) extends his win streak to 11-straight overall, including 10-straight UFC victories, while Griffin (16-6) has now lost two-straight.

In other main card action, Aaron Riley, Ricardo Almeida, and Kurt Pellegrino all picked up unanimous decision wins, while Johny Hendricks knocked out Amir Sadollah in just 29-seconds in a controversial stoppage.

The complete results for UFC 101 were:

B.J. Penn (c) def. Kenny Florian via submission (rear naked choke) — Round 4, 3:54
UFC Lightweight Championship

Anderson Silva def. Forrest Griffin via KO (punch) — Round 1, 3:23

Aaron Riley def. Shane Nelson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Johny Hendricks def. Amir Sadollah via TKO (strikes) — Round 1, 0:29

Ricardo Almeida def. Kendall Grove via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Kurt Pellegrino def. Josh Neer via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

John Howard def. Tamdan McCrory via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Alessio Sakara def. Thales Leites via split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28)

Matthew Riddle def. Dan Cramer via unanimous decision (29-27, 30-26, 30-27)

George Sotiropoulos def. George Roop via submission (kimura) — Round 2, 1:59

Jesse Lennox def. Danillo Villefort via TKO (cut) — Round 3, 3:37

Edith Labelle is out as one of the UFC’s Octagon Girls, replaced by Natasha Wicks (pictured), who won the Octagon Girl search at UFC 100 last month.

“Something happened,” Labelle’s manager James Leinhos told Fanhouse of his client’s departure from the UFC on Friday, “but at this time, I can only confirm that Edith no longer works for the UFC.”

Fanhouse also passes along this interesting bit of info:

Leinhos would not confirm if Labelle was fired or quit. However, it’s interesting to note that she was present at the UFC 100 weigh-ins, yet absent from the actual event the next day.

Those who worry about these kinds of things believed that the reason behind that decision was simply due to the fact that former Playboy model, Holly Madison, served as an honorary UFC 100 Octagon girl, but apparently something else happened during those 24 hours, leading to Labelle’s tenure as an Octagon girl coming to an end.

Wicks, who joins Arianny Celeste and Logan Stanton on the Octagon Girl roster, will be making her debut this weekend in Philadelphia at UFC 101.

Update: According to Fighters Only, Labelle was released after calling in sick for UFC 100 as the UFC believed she was simply too hung over to work the event:

But Fighters Only has been given to understand that LaBelle landed in hot water after phoning the UFC on the morning of UFC 100 and telling them she was too ill to work the event that night.

The UFC apparently disputed that and claimed she was hungover from partying in Las Vegas the night before.

As a result, she was dismissed with immediate effect, which is why viewers did not see her working the Octagon at UFC 100.
