Paulo Thiago vs. Newcomer Jacob Volkmann On Tap for UFC 106

A welterweight matchup between Paulo Thiago and newcomer Jacob Volkmann has been added to the upcoming UFC 106 card on November 21 in Las Vegas, according to Terra.

Thiago had been scheduled to fight Thiago Alves at UFC 107, but was pulled from the matchup in favor of having Alves rematch Jon Fitch at the December 19 event in Memphis and will instead return to action next month at UFC 106, which is headlined by Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin.

Patrick Barry scored an extra $120,000 on Saturday, earning two $60,000 “Fight Night” bonuses for his second-round knockout of Antoni Hardonk at “UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun” at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Hardonk and Stefan Struve also picked up $60,000 bonuses for their showings at last night’s pay-per-view event.

Lyoto Machida, “Shogun” Rua Agree to Immediate Rematch

UFC light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua have agreed to an immediate rematch following Machida’s controversial decision win over Rua on Saturday in the main event of UFC 104.

“I thought “Shogun” won the fight. I think there will be a rematch.” said UFC President Dana White at the post-fight press conference. “I talked to both of them and they both agreed to a rematch.”

Welterweight Anthony Johnson, who weighed in 6 pounds over the 170 pound division limit on Friday for tonight’s UFC 104 event, talks to Heavy.com about missing weight and a future move up to middleweight.

“I was in the sauna for an hour and I lost three or four pounds right off the bat. I knew it was coming off. That’s why I said that if I had another hour or two, I would have been able to make it. I got out of the sauna, and I think I was out too long because my sweating stopped, and when I got back in the sauna I couldn’t get anything else off. That’s what broke me.”

Martin Kampmann vs. Rory Markham Expected for UFC 108 in January

Welterweights Martin Kampmann and Rory Markham have reportedly agreed to square off at UFC 108 on January 2 in Las Vegas. Following his win over former WEC champ Carlos Condit, Kampmann was knocked out by Paul Daley in September, while Markham had his UFC record evened at 1-1 with a loss to Dan Hardy in February.

All twenty-two fighters who will be in action at Saturday’s UFC 104 event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles hit the scales today to weigh in for their bouts. Light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida (202.5) and challenger Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (204.5) successfully made weight for the UFC 104 main event, as did co-headliners Cain Velasquez (238) and Ben Rothwell (265).

Anthony Johnson, Josh Neer, and Gleison Tibau were the only fighters who failed to make weight, but their fights will go on as scheduled.

Programming: Strikeforce Announces “Fight Camp 360: Fedor vs. Rogers,” UFC To Counter-Program 11/7 Event With “Main Events”

Strikeforce announced the official preview show for the November 7 meeting between top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers this week, as “Fight Camp 360: Fedor vs. Rogers” premieres on Showtime on November 3 and chronicles the pair as they prepare for their CBS-televised showdown.

Meanwhile, the UFC will counter Strikeforce’s CBS debut on November 7 with “UFC Main Events” on Spike TV, a new special showcasing main events from the promotion’s recent cards.

At Thursday’s UFC 104 press conference in Los Angeles, UFC President Dana White said contract negotiations with free agent middleweight contender Dan Henderson broke down as Henderson sought to be the highest paid fighter in the promotion.

“We’re at a stalemate right now. The money that [Henderson] is asking for would make him by far the highest-paid guy in the UFC,” said White.

Thiago Alves Tapped to Rematch Jon Fitch at UFC 107

After an injury forced Ricardo Almeida to withdraw from their scheduled UFC 106 fight, Jon Fitch is now expected to rematch Thiago Alves at UFC 107 on December 19 in Memphis, Tennessee, according to MMAjunkie, which reports that the welterweight matchup is in the works, while Alves’ original UFC 107 opponent, Paulo Thiago, will be booked for another bout.

In their first meeting at UFC Fight Night 5 in mid-2006, Fitch earned a second-round technical knockout of Alves.
