Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell will reportedly not retire despite the wishes of Dana White, with rumors swirling that he could return to action this fall, possibly for a bout against Rich Franklin.

Joey Villasenor edged Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos via split decision in the Strikeforce Challengers main event on Friday in Kent, Washington, but a “Fight of the Year” candidate between Jorge Gurgel and Conor Huen stole the show, as Gurgel topped Huen by unanimous decision in a standup brawl.

Tim Kennedy, Sarah Kaufman, and Luke Rockhold were also victorious on the Showtime-televised main card.

Strikeforce has now made another contribution to the world of MMA, particularly women’s MMA. Strikeforce is already the largest promoter to feature female fights. They have also given women the first North American headlining slot with Gina Carano vs. Christiane “Cyborg” Santos on August 15. Now they have added to that list the first two female bouts to be contested with five minute rounds.

The winner of the anticipated August 15th matchup between Gina Carano and Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos will be crowned the first-ever Strikefore 145-pound women's champion, the promotion recently announced. Carano-Cyborg, which will feature 5 3-minute rounds as opposed to the 5 5-minute rounds of male title bouts, headlines the Showtime-televised card at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

Strikeforce has finalized the card for it’s next event, a “Strikeforce Challengers” set for June 19 in Kent, Washington. Headlining will be “Smokin” Joey Villasenor taking on Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos in a middleweight bout, with possible future title implications.

Jake Shields needed less than half a round to submit Robbie Lawler in the main event of Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields on Saturday, forcing Lawler to tap to a guillotine choke 2:02 into the opening round of their catchweight headliner. In other main card action, Brett Rogers knocked out Andrei Arlovski in just 22-seconds and Nick Diaz submitted Scott Smith.

The highly-anticipated female MMA showdown between Gina Carano and Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos will finally take place at an August 15th Strikeforce event, the promotion announced on Saturday. A rematch between lightweight title-holders Josh Thomson and Gilbert Melendez is also scheduled for the card.

A heavyweight matchup between Andrei Arlovski and Brett Rogers has been added to the lineup for Strikeforce's June 6th event in St. Louis, the promotion confirmed on Tuesday.

Nick Diaz, who defeated former Strikeforce middleweight champion Frank Shamrock via second-round TKO in a 179-pound catchweight bout in April, will return to the 170-pound welterweight division following his June 6th 180-pound catchweight showdown with Scott Smith.
