Middleweights Tim Kennedy and Zak Cummings, who are slated to square off in the main event of Friday’s “Strikeforce Challengers” event, successfully made weight on Thursday at the weigh-ins for the Showtime-televised event, which takes place at the SpiritBank Event Center in Bixby, Oklahoma.

47-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL running back Herschel Walker has signed on to make his MMA Debut with Strikeforce, MMA Fanhouse today reported citing Strikeforce director of communications Mike Afromowitz.

According to the report, Walker will “immediately enter an 8-to-12 week training camp with the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, Calif.” before likely debuting with Strikeforce in 2010.

Cung Le has vacated the Strikeforce middleweight title he’s failed to defend since winning it early last year and contenders Jake Shields and Jason “Mayhem” Miller are now set to square off for the belt on November 7 on the undercard of Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers on CBS.

Recent Strikeforce acquisition, and top ranked heavyweight fighter Fedor Emelianenko will make his Strikeforce debut against Brett Rogers on national television. The promotions first event to be televised on CBS since striking their deal with the network will take place on November 7, 2009. The bout itself has been locked up for some time, though the date had yet to be finalized.

On Tuesday Strikeforce officially announced the addition of four fighters to their upcoming “Strikeforce Challengers” event scheduled for November 6th in Fresno, CA. The fighters added to the card include Ben Holscher, Casey Olson, and Anthony Ruiz, as well as female contender Zoila Frausto, though no opponents for the four combatants were named.

All six fighters that were drug tested for UFC 102 tested clean, Urijah Faber’s hand has been cleared to hit the punching bag, and Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante has pulled out of his Dream 11 bout due to injury.

Gina Carano, fresh off her first career loss to Cris “Cyborg” at an August 15 Strikeforce event, will star in the upcoming spy thriller “Knockout” before returning to the cage, Variety reports. Production for the film is slated to begin in January, sidelining Carano until mid-2010 at the earliest.

An upcoming Strikeforce event headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers could take place on October 10 in New Jersey, according to ESPN’s MMA Live. A venue was not revealed for the possible date, and it is not yet clear whether the UFC will attempt to organize a card to counter-program the Showtime-televised event.
