M-1 and Fedor Emelianenko have filed a lawsuit against Affliction Clothing, Affliction Entertainment, and other unnamed parties alleging breach of contract stemming from the cancellation of “Affliction: Trilogy” and folding of the MMA promotion earlier this year as part of a deal struck with the UFC.

The lawsuit alleges that Affliction “elected to serve its own financial interests at the expense of its partners” and hints that UFC may soon be added as another plaintiff.

Mike Campbell rebounded from back-to-back losses that sent him packing from the WEC in the main event of WCF 8 on Saturday, defeating Mike Medrano via first-round TKO to get back in the win column. Heavyweight prospect Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal kept his undefeated record intact against Mark Kerr in the main event of M-1 Global: Breakthrough on Friday in Kansas City, knocking out the veteran just 25-seconds into their headlining matchup to cap off the HDNet-televised event.

In a special sparring exhibition featured on the main card, top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko made easy work of Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi, following up a series of seemingly-easy takedowns with a fight-ending armbar.

Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal weighed in at 219-pounds at Thursday’s weigh-ins for M-1 Global: Breakthrough, while his opponent, veteran Mark Kerr, tipped the scales at 263 for the heavyweight headliner.

The event, which takes place this evening at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, also features a special sparring exhibition between Fedor Emelianenko and Gegard Mousasi and airs live on HDNet.

A light heavyweight matchup between Sengoku veteran and former NCAA wrestling champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (4-0) and two-time UFC tournament winner and former NCAA All-American Mark Kerr (15-10) headlines Friday’s “M-1 Global: Breakthrough” event at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City.

The HDNet-televised event also features a special sparring exhibition between top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko and Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi.

Contrary to previous reports following his knockout of Forrest Griffin on Saturday at UFC 101, Anderson Silva says he won’t be relinquishing his middleweight title to remain permanently at light heavyweight and will continue to fight in both divisions.

On Saturday, MMAFrenzy.com reported that Don Fry had pulled out of his M-1 Breakthrough bout, which had been moved from Los Angeles to Kansas. A replacement has been found to face his scheduled opponent, Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal at the event, in another aging legend, Mark Kerr.

Also added to the August 28th card is a special exhibition match between Fedor Emelianenko and Gegard Mousasi.

Don Frye has withdrawn from a matchup against Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal which was to headline M-1 Global’s August 28 “Breakthrough” event after the card was recently moved from Los Angeles to Kansas City.

More light as now been shed on rumors that M-1 Global may have misled Gegard Mousasi in negotiations with the UFC before the light heavyweight signed with Strikeforce as CBS Radio host Carmichael Dave recently spoke to UFC Vice President of Talent Relations Joe Silva on the subject of Mousasi and M-1, and later posted a transcript of that conversation to the Sherdog Forums:

“Gegard called me about a week ago. He asked if it was true that the UFC offered 40/40 (40k to show, 40k bonus to win), Silva said. “I told him no, because we never actually made an offer. Not only did we not make an offer, but we would’ve assumed his Affliction contract and its terms. So whatever Affliction was paying him, that’s what we would’ve honored, and it was considerably more than 40/40.”

M-1 Global’s recently-announced “Breakthrough” event, which was to take place on August 28 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, will apparently take place at another location to-be-determined after the promotion declined to approach the California State Athletic Commission about the card.

According to SI.com’s Josh Gross, the event is now likely to take place at a venue to-be-announced in Oklahoma.

UFC President Dana White made several announcements during a Friday press conference, including confirmation that Vitor Belfort will be returning to the Octagon to headline UFC 103 against Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson is next in line for a middleweight title shot against Anderson Silva, and Tito Ortiz is officially returning to the UFC, likely facing Mark Coleman at the promotion’s New Year’s show.

Outside of the announcement that Fedor Emelianenko would headline EA Sport’s upcoming MMA video game, there was little news and few answers at today’s press conference in Anaheim, California featuring the top-ranked heavyweight and M-1 Global officials.

An offer received on Tuesday from the UFC was called “very good,” but M-1’s insistence on co-promoting with the UFC remains a roadblock in the apparently stalled negotiations.

Though negotiations between Fedor Emelianenko and the UFC have apparently not begun yet, it appears both sides are willing to meet with hopes of bringing the top-ranked heavyweight into the Octagon.

M-1 Global President Vadim Finkelchtein believes that this weeks cancellation of Affliction: Trilogy could be used as an opportunity to jump start stagnant negotiations to bring Fedor to the UFC.

Affliction partner M-1 Global on Saturday issued its first statement on the cancellation of Affliction: Trilogy, apologizing to fans who planned to attend or watch the event and saying that the decision to cancel the card was made without “warning or prior notice”.

“M-1 Global understands and shares the disappointment being expressed by many fans that Fedor will not be able to compete on Aug. 1 as scheduled,” read the statement. “However, we will work to ensure that Fedor returns to active competition as soon as possible.”

Ricardo Arona vs. Marvin Eastman, Paulo Filho vs. Alex Schoenauer, and Pedro Rizzo vs. Jeff Monson are set for Bitetti Combat on September 12 in Brazil, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will face Don Frye at M-1 Global’s “Breakthrough” event on August 28 in Los Angeles, Eliot Marshall vs. Jason Brilz has been added to UFC 103, and the Palace Fighting Championship has ceased operations.
