WEC 43 Weigh-In Results: Cerrone and Henderson On Weight for Main Event

WEC 43 headliners Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson, along with the rest of the ten-bout card, successfully made weight on Friday at the official fighter weigh-ins for Saturday’s event, which takes place at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Cerrone (154.4) and Henderson (155) meet for the WEC interim lightweight title in the WEC 43 main event, which airs live tomorrow on Versus.

Junie Browning Cut by UFC After Overdose, Arrest for Hospital Assaults

The UFC has released lightweight Junie Browning after the controversial Ultimate Fighter 8 contestant was arrested on Tuesday in Las Vegas,according to Yahoo Sports. Browning was arrested for allegedly assaulting three nurses at a local hospital, where he was being treated for an overdose “in an attempt to harm himself”.

Bibiano Fernandes upset Joe Warren in the DREAM featherweight grand prix semifinals then topped Hiroyuki Takeya in the main event of DREAM 11 on Tuesday to become the promotion’s featherweight champion.

In other notable action at the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa, Japan, Shinya Aoki became DREAM’s lightweight champ by submitting title-holder Joachim Hansen in the closing seconds of their co-headlining matchup, veteran Kazushi Sakuraba easily submitted newcomer Rubin Williams, and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Ikuhisa Minowa advanced to the Super Hulk tournament finale.

Travis Lutter edged hometown favorite Jason MacDonald on Friday in the main event of MFC 22, earning a unanimous decision win in the matchup of middleweight UFC veterans that capped off the HDNet-televised event at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton, Canada.

In other notable action, Antonio McKee topped Carlo Prated by unanimous decision in the MFC 22 co-main event, while John Alessio stopped Luigi Fioravanti with strikes in the third round of their featured bout.

The promotion officially announced Phil Baroni vs. Amir Sadollah, Marcus Davis vs. Ben Saunders and Jason Dent vs. George Sotiropoulos for the preliminary card of the November 21 event to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

UFC middleweight Yoshihiro Akiyama, who earned a split decision over Alan Belcher in July in his UFC debut, will begin training with Shawn Tompkins and Xtreme Couture beginning in October, according to Sherdog.com.

Tompkins told Sherdog that he did not know who or when Akiyama would be fighting next, but Bloody Elbow’s Luke Thomas tweeted on Monday that Akiyama could fight Wanderlei Silva at UFC 108 on January 2 in Las Vegas.
