Takanori Gomi Announces Last Fight in Japan; Plans to Fight Stateside and Become a Surfer

Takanori Gomi, a top lightweight fighter that has had a tough go of things recently, announced Tuesday that his upcoming bout at Vale Tudo Japan ‘09 would be his final fight in Japan. “The Fireball Kid” made the announcement during a press conference to promote the October 30th event, and his official involvement in it.

Gomi also made the strange announcement that in addition to attempting to move his MMA career to the US he would also be pursuing a second professional career as a surfer.

Holscher, Olson, Ruiz and Frausto Official for “Strikeforce Challengers” on November 6

On Tuesday Strikeforce officially announced the addition of four fighters to their upcoming “Strikeforce Challengers” event scheduled for November 6th in Fresno, CA. The fighters added to the card include Ben Holscher, Casey Olson, and Anthony Ruiz, as well as female contender Zoila Frausto, though no opponents for the four combatants were named.

Melvin Guillard Ready to Stand Up With Nate Diaz in UFN 19 Main Event

“Nate’s been bothering the UFC about getting somebody to stand up and bang with him, because Clay Guida went in and just took him down and out-wrestled him. Stevenson did the same thing. Everybody knows I am a great wrestler, but I’m also a great striker and I want to have a good stand-up battle. I mean, if he really wants someone to go in there and stand up and bang with him? I’m that guy.”

Tomorrow night Oklahoma City is UFC Ultimate Fight Night 19, headlined by Nate Diaz vs. Melvin Guillard. There are certainly some interesting match ups, and a few that on paper seem a bit one sided. UFC Fight Night 19 Weigh-In Results: All Fighters Make Weight

Despite a hard weight cut, UFC Fight Night 19 headliner Nate Diaz successfully made weight at Tuesday’s official weigh-ins for the event, weighing in exactly at the 156-pound non-title lightweight limit, while his main event opponent, Melvin Guillard, tipped the scale one pound lighter at 155. The rest of the 11-bout card also successfully made weight on their first attempt.

WEC 44 Announced for November 18 in Las Vegas; Mike Brown vs. Jose Aldo Official

The WEC officially announced today that they have scheduled WEC 44 for The Pearl at The Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is scheduled to take place on November 18th, and will be headlined by a featherweight title match between champion Mike Thomas Brown and challenger Jose Aldo.

In addition to this official bout, MMAJunkie is reporting that a bantam weight matchup between Frank Gomez and Seth Dikun has been unofficially added to the card, and FiveKnuckles says that Kyle Dietz will likely face Noah Thomas on the November 18th card.

The UFC today announced its long-rumored UFC 106 event, which will take place on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Confirmed for the card was a headlining matchup between heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar and challenger Shane Carwin, as well as Tito Ortiz’s return to the Octagon against hall of famer Mark Coleman.

Kevin Burns vs. TJ Grant Added to Rumored UFC 107 Card

Welterweights Kevin Burns and TJ Grant are likely to square off at UFC 107 on December 12 in Memphis, Tennessee, according to MMANews.

Burns (7-3) dropped to 2-2 inside the Octagon following back-to-back losses to Anthony Johnson last December and Chris Lytle in June, while Grant suffered a decision loss to Dong Hyun Kim in July following an April victory over Ryo Chonan in his UFC debut.

A previously-reported light heavyweight matchup between Randy Couture and Brandon Vera was made official on Monday to headline UFC 105 on November 14 in Manchester, England. The Spike TV-televised event also includes Michael Bisping vs. Denis Kang and Dan Hardy vs. Dong Hyun Kim, as well as TUF 9 winner James Wilks and Ross Pearson.

Mark Bocek vs. Matt Veach Expected for TUF 10 Finale

Lightweights Mark Bocek and Matt Veach are expected to meet at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale on December 5 in Las Vegas, according to MMA Weekly, with both fighters agreeing to the matchup and bout agreements pending.

Bocek (7-2) is coming off an April submission of David Bielkheden, while Veach (11-0) knocked out Matt Grice in his UFC debut in February.

Weekend Results: Shark Fights 6, Arena Rumble, and Bitetti Combat

Dave Herman needed just 60-seconds to stop Don Frye on Saturday in the main event of Shark Fights 6, forcing a referee stoppage at the one-minute mark of the headliner. Gerald Harris, a cast member on the Ultimate Fighter 7, knocked out former WEC and UFC fighter Nissen Osterneck in the co-main event to with the promotion’s middleweight title.
