Tim Sylvia, who suffered a 10-second knockout loss to 48-year-0ld former boxing champ Ray Mercer on Saturday, has been removed from Affliction's August 1st event in Anaheim, California, "Trilogy", for precautionary reasons.

A rumored 165-pound catchweight bout between lightweight Takanori Gomi and welterweight Brett Cooper will not take place at Affliction: Trilogy despite earlier reports that the bout was close to being finalized.

Former IFL heavyweight champion Ben Rothwell (30-6) is set to square off with undefeated up-and-comer Chase Gormley (6-0) at Affliction: Trilogy on August 1 in Anaheim, California.

Originally set to fight Vitor Belfort at Affliction: Trilogy, Gegard Mousasi will instead meet Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Renato "Babalu" Sobral at the August 1st event, according to M-1 Global, which cited sources close to Mousasi.

On Friday, Affliction officially announced its third event, "Affliction: Trilogy", which will take place on August 1st at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and features a main event pitting WAMMA heavyweight champion and top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko against challenger and former UFC champion Josh Barnett.

On the heels of Vitor Belfort's refusal to fight former DREAM middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi at any weight higher than 185-pounds, Mousasi has challenged Belfort to a catchweight bout.

Gegard Mousasi, who was victorious over Mark Hunt on Tuesday at DREAM 9, will take on Vitor Belfort at Affliction's third event on August 1st in Anaheim, California. Mousasi revealed the matchup in a post-fight interview at M-1Global.com.

Lightweights Chris Horodecki and Dan Lauzon will clash at Affliction 3 on August 1st in Anaheim, California. The bout, which was originally slated to take place in January at Affliction: Day of Reckoning, was confirmed on Monday by MMAjunkie.

Top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko and contender Josh Barnett have agreed to meet at Affliction's third event on August 1st at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, according to MMA Fanhouse. Though bout agreements have not yet been signed, the bout is expected to be finalized and announced in the coming days.

Nick Diaz, who defeated former Strikeforce middleweight champion Frank Shamrock via second-round TKO in a 179-pound catchweight bout in April, will return to the 170-pound welterweight division following his June 6th 180-pound catchweight showdown with Scott Smith.

Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio on Monday revealed that the promotion's third event will not take place on July 11th, the same day as the UFC's historic UFC 100 event. "That's all rumors, and that's just what people think. In my eyes, it's not even a possibility. It doesn't make sense."

UFC President Dana White on Sunday issued the promotion's first comments on Affliction's rumored July 11th event. "I love it. I don’t like these guys and I want to see them spend more of their t-shirt money," said White.

Affliction COO Michael D. Cohen commented earlier today on reports that Affliction could hold it's next event on July 11th opposite UFC 100. Though Cohen confirmed the date remains under consideration, he also mentioned that the promotion is not looking to directly go up against the UFC.

Affliction's third and possibly final event could take place on July 11th. If that date sounds familiar it's when the UFC has scheduled UFC 100, with Affliction potentially putting their event in direct competition with the UFC's historic card.
