Ben Rothwell, who was forced to withdraw from last Saturday’s UFC 110 with a stomach virus, hopes to fight original opponent Mirko “Cro Cop” at UFC 115, which takes place on June 12 in Vancouver.
After stepping up at the last-minute to fight Mirko “Cro Cop” at UFC 110, Anthony Perosh, who suffered a second-round TKO due to a cut, has been rewarded with a four-fight UFC contract and is likely to return to action at light heavyweight.
Following it’s deal with Strikeforce early last year and subsequent acquisition by Stratus Media Group, ProElite has been restructured and is being relaunched with new top executives and will soon resume promoting MMA events, likely through its Cage Rage and Spirit MC promotions.
DREAM “Super Hulk” tournament winner Ikuhisa Minowa will return to action at DREAM 13 on March 22 in Yokohama, Japan, but his opponent has not yet been announced.
The UFC’s recently-announced line of Fathead posters include champions Brock Lesnar, Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva and BJ Penn, as well as Jon Jones, Junior Dos Santos and Nate Marquardt and retail for $99.99 each.
An injury has forced David Heath off this Friday’s “MFC 24: Heat XC” event, but teammate Ryan McClain will replace him and fight Dwayne Lewis in the card’s co-main event. MFC 24 is headlined by Yves Edwards vs. Derrick Noble and airs live on pay-per-view at MaximumFighting.com.
Former UFC lightweight Corey Hill’s comeback from a devastating broken leg continues on March 20, as he faces 7-1 Mark Holst at “Xtreme Combat League: Evolution” in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Featherweight Wilson Reis, who returns to action in Bellator’s featherweight tournament in April, has been replaced by Nick Denis on the Sengoku 12 card, who fights Yuji Hoshino at the March 7 event on Tokyo, while Marlon Sandro vs. Tomonari Kanomatahas also been added to the event.
“Adrenaline MMA V,” which was slated for March 20 in Youngstown, Ohio and set to be headlined by Tim Sylvia vs. Wes Sims before it was declared non-competitive, will not take place as scheduled, and may instead be rescheduled for April in Findlay, Ohio.
On Tuesday, Alabama became the latest state to adopt legislation to regulate mixed martial arts events.

Tim Sylvia vs. Wes Sims Turned Down by Ohio Athletic Commission for Adrenaline MMA 5

A previously-reported matchup between heavyweight veterans and former UFC fighters Tim Sylvia and Wes Sims, slated to headline Adrenaline MMA 5 on March 20 in Youngstown, Ohio, will not take place as scheduled, as the Ohio Athletic Commission recently ruled the bout “non-competitive,” according to MMAjunkie.

The decision was made in the wake of Sims’ first-round TKO loss to Bobby Lashley at “Strikeforce: Miami” in January and was reportedly reached “after comparing [Sims' and Sylvia's] records and the opponents both fighters had faced.”

The former UFC heavyweight title-holder Sylvia knocked out The Ultimate Fighter 10 castmember Sims in the opening round of their first meeting in 2004.

Sylvia (25-6) bounced back from three-straight losses, including an embarassing 8-second KO to Ray Mercer, with a first-round TKO of Jason Riley in Adrenaline last September, while Sims’ loss to Lashley snapped a three-fight win streak.

Both fighters are still expected to compete at Adrenaline 5, with Sylvia expected to fight Branden Lee Hinkle while Sims is slotted to face Kerry Schall.

Adrenaline MMA Results: Tim Sylvia and Houston Alexander Victorious

Two former UFC stars were in action last night at Adrenaline MMA IV in Council Bluffs, Iowa, among others. Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia and UFC light heavyweight fighter Houston Alexander were both looking to pick up much needed wins when they stepped inside the cage last night, and both did just that.

Sylvia earned a first round knock out over the relatively inexperience Jason Riley. After peppering him with combinations and strikes in the clinch, Sylvia finally felled Riley with a left hand that led the referee to stop the bout.

Alexander also earned a first round knock out over his opponent, Sherman Pendergarst, though his was a little quicker. Alexander opened the bout with leg kicks, then finished off Pendergarst with a series of knees to the body.

Spike TV announced on Friday that it will air Efrain Escudero vs. Cole Miller and Drew McFedries vs. Tomasz Drwal from the UFC 103 undercard during a live, one-hour, commercial-free broadcast beginning at 9pm ET on September 19 leading up to the UFC 103 pay-per-view.
Weigh-ins for WEC 43: Cerrone vs. Henderson will take place on Tuesday, September 1 at the Covelli Center in Youngstown, Ohio. The Versus-televised event, headlined by an interim lightweight title bout between Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson, takes place on Wednesday, September 2 at the venue.

Tim Sylvia vs. Jason Riley Headlines Adrenaline IV on September 18 Near Omaha

A heavyweight matchup between Tim Sylvia and Jason Riley will headline Adrenaline MMA’s September 18 event, according to Riley, who recently-announced the bout on MySpace.

Adrenaline IV is slated to take place near Omaha, Nebraska at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and is also expected to feature current UFC fighter Houston Alexander and veteran Jeremy Horn.

Sylvia (24-6), a former UFC heavyweight champion, is currently riding a three-fight losing streak, suffering a 9-second knockout to Ray Mercer in his most-recent fight in June after weighing in at an astonishing 310-pounds for the bout. “The Maine-iac” previously suffered back-to-back losses to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fedor Emelianenko in 2008.

Riley (6-1) won the NAAFS heavyweight title in his most-recent fight in April, defeating Justin Black via first-round knockout.

Ray Mercer KOs Tim Sylvia in Just 10-Seconds at Adrenaline III

Former WBO heavyweight champion Ray Mercer, 15-years older and 50-pounds lighter than his opponent Tim Sylvia, needed just 10-seconds to knockout the 310-pound former UFC heavyweight champion on Saturday in the main event of Adrenaline III in Birmingham, Alabama.

UFC veterans Rich Clementi and Jeremy Horn both picked up first-round submission victories on the Adrenaline III undercard.

Tim Sylvia Weighs In at 310 Pounds For MMA Fight Against Ray Mercer

Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia weighed in at an astonishing 310.6 pounds on Friday in Birmingham, Alabama for his Adrenaline III headliner against former boxing champion Ray Mercer, who tipped the scales over 50 pounds lighter at 256.6 pounds.

Sylvia weighed 263 pounds for his most-recent bout at Affliction: Banned last July, adding nearly 50 pounds to his 6-foot 8-inch frame over the past 11 months. He’ll need to shed the additional weigh in just under two months to reach the 265-pound heavyweight limit for his Affliction: Trilogy matchup with Paul Buentello.

Sylvia and Mercer were originally scheduled for a boxing match in New Jersey, before the state declined to approve the contest, forcing it to be moved to Alabama where it was changed on Thursday to MMA rules after the boxing bout was deemed illegal.

Notables Jeremy Horn (204.8) and Rich Clementi (170.2), both UFC veterans, were on weight for their respective matchups.

Tim Sylvia and Ray Mercer To Fight Under MMA Rules After Boxing Match Deemed Illegal

A scheduled boxing match between former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia and former boxing champion Ray Mercer that was to headline Adenaline III has been scrapped, with the pair of former champions now set to square off in an MMA-rules bout this Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama.

Details on the switch from Sherdog:

Association of Boxing Commissions President Tim Lueckenhoff told Sherdog.com that neither he nor the ABC organization had been approached directly to regulate the bout. Further, Lueckenhoff said he’d thought Sylvia-Mercer would be an MMA contest and not a boxing bout. Lueckenhoff said federal law currently has no jurisdiction over MMA bouts, but laws are in place over boxing under the Professional Boxing Safety Act.

In a press release issued by the ABC on Thursday, the organization denounced the “unwarranted and illegal” boxing match. The release also noted that the River Cree commission, as well as referee John McCarthy, had withdrawn their involvement from the bout and event.

“Canadian boxing commissions are not authorized to supervise boxing matches in the U.S.; and, patently, it is wholly inappropriate for one representative from a Canadian boxing commission, together with an MMA referee, to supervise a boxing match,” said Bruce C. Spizler, chairman of the ABC legal committee in the release.

“Everyone thinks I came to Alabama because it’s unsanctioned here,” said Cox, “but why would I go to so much trouble to try and get this event regulated if that were the case?”

The last-minute rules switch is just the latest snag for the fight, which was originally to take place on May 30th in Atlantic City, New Jersey before the state’s athletic commission declined to regulate the contest. It was then moved to Alabama, which lacks a commission to sanction the bout, where it was scheduled to take place under boxing rules in an MMA cage before being forced to take place under MMA rules just two days before the fight.

UFC veterans Rich Clementi and Jeremy Horn will also be in action on the card.
