The scheduled light heavyweight bout between Matt Hamill and Brandon Vera that was originally reported to be set for UFC 101, has reportedly been moved. Instead of taking place at the beginning of August, it will instead take place at the end of the month at the as-yet-unannounced UFC 102 in Portland, Oregon, according to MMA Junkie.

Hamill (6-2) and Vera (10-3) were last in action at UFC 96 last month, with Hamill earning “Knockout of the Night” for his first-round head kick KO of Mark Munoz while Vera picked up a second-round TKO of Mike Patt on the preliminary card due to leg kicks.

UFC 102, which will air live on pay-per-view, is expected to also feature former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Randy Couture vs. former UFC interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Junior dos Santos vs. Justin McCully.

This is just putting of an azz beating for Matt the “Punching Bag” Hamill. The inevitable.

    • fr702 says:

Really you don’t think that Hamill has a chance against Vera, hmmmm remember when everyone doubted him against Munoz and then he Cro Cop’d the hell out of that kid….. Hell the only “real” loss that he has is against Ace Franklin soo you might want to take that into consideration perhaps

  • zac says:

heres an idea….quit releasing the fight cards so far in advance that there is an 80% chance that someone will get hurt and need to be replaced or a fight has to get moved. it may just make the fighters want to stay in fighting condition…

  • OnlyTrue1 says:

I give the nod to Vera.

I expect him to kick hamill the way Franklin was doing but 10x harder and faster and 10x the amount.

Problem is I know Hamill is thinking the same and will use his wrestling to keep this one on the ground.

Should be a barn bunner though.

Did they say why the fight was moved back??

  • Figs says:

This is a good match-up. I put Vera up as the favourite, but there’s no way that this is any easy battle for him. I see a decision, both guys are hard to finish (unless Miragliotta is reffing).

  • jazzkok says:

If hammill can’t take vera down we’re going to see another tko via muay thai. I agree with fr702 (how do i add you as a friend dude?) hamills only true loss has been to franklin and he’s a sick fighter. Hamills always the underdog, but in this fight, anyone can win.

I like vera and believe he’s better then he’s looked against tim sylvia, jardine and verdum. If he’s pumped like his last fight he could possibly get hamill like franklin did.

Hope the winner of this one moves up against a top 5, or top 7 lhw

Good to see Randy against big nog has finally been called. Both on their way out but is a match up they had to put on for the old school!!

I agree – I think Vera has shown that he is ready to step up and I think he will show that he is a different class to Hamil.
    ..
It will be interesting to see whether he reduces the leg kicks though its gonna make him a lot easier to take down if he is throwing them regularly. Like you guys say – the only way for Hamil to win is to take the truth down and keep him there.

Vera by flying knee in the 2nd – keeping my cash in my wallet tho!

  • marvelknight4 says:

Matt Hamill needs to take this fight to the ground, because even though he scored an awesome leg kick ko on his last fight, he for sure is not going to get Vera like that. Vera’s stand-up is way better than Hammill’s and his leg kicks are also better than Hamill’s.

Hamill can score a tko if he’s able to take the Vera down, however i feel that if Vera ends up on top he has the advantage in submissions being that Hamill is more of a ground and pound guy.

The outcome of this fight is going to depend on where the fight takes place. Hamill might start thinking he can ko guys based on his last fight and try to stand with Vera which would be great for Vera.

Vera needs to take control of the fight and be agressive. I know Hamill is agressive but Vera can utilize his leg kicks to set up a tko. Hamill has decent stan-up but his best shot is controling Vera on the ground. Vera’s best chance is to be agressive soon and pick Hamill apart with his kicks and possibly get some knees in the clinch.

Vera by tko or ko in the 2nd or 3rd

  • OnlyTrue1 says:

Hamill’s field goal Kick to Munoz was all good but he was what 5′ll-6′0 at the tallest. I seriously doubt he will kick Vera that way.

Vera stands 6′3ish and fights tall so Hamill will come out taking vera down immediately….. I doubt he actually thinks he can stand with vera no matter how good his last fight was.

Buttttttt…………..I give Hamill all the credit in the world he is truly evolving so I could end up eating every typed word!!

I still see Vera destroying Matt in the clinch with M.T. knees And plus Hamill defense is horrible. He keeps his hands low and allows strikes to the face to give’em.

    • marvelknight4 says:

I agree, Hamill does keep his hands too low when he goes in on guys with his slow strikes that you can see coming a mile away. If he goes in like that against Vera, it’ll be easy for Vera to clinch him up and Muay Thai his a$$ with knees. Lol.. Anyway Vera is too tall and lean for Hamill to land a lucky ko kick. Like i said before, he should try and keep the fight on the ground.

I honestly don’t think Hamill will ever score another leg kick ko(Munoz was gassed, he’s a short guy and he sucks a$$) other guys in the UFC, especially at 205…he’s just not going to score a knockout like that again IMO, only if he fights rookies.

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

Man Hamill is relentless in his pressure though, he constantly moves forward pressing you, I love the guy and I wanna see him succeed but I love The Old Vera, he was so sick, that I thought he was gonna be the next big thing, so I’m hoping he gets back on track and learns to box better and proper head movement and the sky is the limit for him.

    • marvelknight4 says:

I want to see Hamill succeed as well, he can be a real threat to anyone at 205 if he works more on his submissions because we’ve already seen that he’s a great wrestler and can control guys on the ground, if he tightened up his stand-up and his subs, he’d be a very different fighter.

As for Vera, yeah he should work on head movement and his boxing. That will make it hard for guys to stop him.

  • russiandoeboi says:

we haven’t seem hamill’s best yet as i believe his heart wasn’t into pummeling his friend rich franklin. i would predict vera on his sick skills, but again hamill is a forward moving terminator for sure and he may bring something new.
