UFC and Jessica Eye Responds to TDLR’s Suspension

Earlier this week it was announced that UFC women’s bantamweight Jessica Eye had received a probationary suspension from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). While the picture of what exactly caused the positive test still remains murky, the UFC and Eye responded to the probationary suspension earlier this evening in a pair of statements.

The UFC was the more terse of the two statements, stating:

“The UFC received word of the fully probated suspension and fine issued to Jessica Eye by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The UFC intends to honor the probation, which will not force Eye to miss her scheduled bout at UFC 170.”

Eye expanded a bit more, but has yet to reveal what possibly caused the positive test. Said Eye:

“I was recently alerted to the fact that I was issued a fully probated suspension and fine by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. While I intend to discuss with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation the overturning of my victory at UFC 166, I have accepted the terms of the probation and intend to compete at UFC 170 on Feb. 22. I pride myself on following the rules and representing my family, teammates, sponsors, and fans in the best light possible. I apologize for any distractions this has caused.”

The announcement of Eye’s positive test comes prior to her UFC 170 fight with Alexis Davis. The possible number one contender’s bout will still proceed as planned at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Eye has yet to formally set a date to speak with the TDLR at this time.

These statements are the latest in a bizarre situation that started with the TDLR issuing a statement more than three months after Eye fought Sarah Kaufman to a razor thin split decision at UFC 166. The bout’s result has since been turned to a “no decision,” Eye was fined, and the talented fighter has been put on a “probationary” suspension for a year retroactive to UFC 166.
