Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos has successfully weighed in for her Stikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz matchup with Hitomi Akano, but the fight remains in doubt. After initially weighing in seven pounds over the 145-pound limit, Cyborg was given two hours to shed an extra 2.5 pounds and successfully completed the task an hour later. Despite the weight gap being closed to the mandatory six pounds, Akano is now threatening to pull out of the fight, according to Cage Writer’s Steve Cofield.

According to the report, Strikeforce is “working” to make sure the fight remains on the card, but an agreement has not yet been reached.

Cyborg faces a 20-percent fine for failing to make weight.

Update: Several other outlets are reporting that Cyborg did not drop down to 149.5 pounds on her second weigh-in as previously reported, instead weighing in between 150 and 150.5 pounds on her second attempt. Regardless of whether she is within six pounds of Akano’s weight or not, we’re hearing that this bout could still happen, but indications remain that this fight is unlikely to take place unless a last-minute deal is struck with Akano.

I hope that this fight does happen, even if 20% has to be dropped by Cyborg… Now I do realize it is “harder” for women to cut weight but damn how long has she known that she was fighting at this weight? Never the less I hope that these women are fighting each other, Cyborg might have issues due to the late cut come tomorrow but hopefully she gets the oppritunity to show StrikeForce that she should have a shot against Gina

lets not forget guys that miss carano misses weight all the time…

It sucks for these women because the weight classes are so hard to set up but if you agree to it gotta try to make it.

      1. Carano misses by 1-2 lbs, not 7.
      2. Carano actually fights at 140 I believe, so a potential match-up against Cyborg at 145 shouldn’t be a problem for Carano.

carano’s may ‘08 fight she missed by 4.5 and october she was 2.75 over the first time. also the 140 class was one of the “invented” classes by EliteXC and she’s mention on a late night show she cuts too much weight before her fights and wanted to fight in a higher weight class but there really isn’t a solid one.

    (after update)
I can’t say that I blame Akano, she’s probably going to catch a beat down anyways, then with the added situation that Cyborg didn’t make weight, that makes it even more likely.

Well I have hopes that this fight will happen, But if it doesn’t it would move Rockhold (3~1~0)v Meredith (3~2~0) up into the televised portion of the card, and he (Rockhold) is a pretty good 85er, definately someone to watch imo, he was impressive the last time I saw him in November….. I just wouldn’t mind seeing Cyborg fight, probably unlikely tho…….
