Cody McKenzie’s Saturday night didn’t go very well, as he was defeated by Sam Stout at UFC on FOX 9.
The evening was even weirder, as it was reported that McKenzie did not show up to the Sleep Train Arena with any fight shorts. Instead, he was wearing a pair just purchased with a Nike logo on them and the sales tag still hanging off the shorts.
Referee Herb Dean noticed this moments into the contest and ripped the tags off. The shorts also had hand-written numbers on one leg.
The loss dropped McKenzie to 14-4 in his career and 3-4 with the UFC.
Twitter, of course, had some fun at McKenzie’s expense:

If you're thinking wow Cody McKenzie is sponsored by Nike you'd be wrong. More like he bought shorts at Sports Authority across the street

Wow – Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and now Cody McKenzie sponsored by Nike

The tag was still on his shorts

And pockets! RT @MJCflipdascript: McKenzie with price tags still in his shorts. Because duh.

On a separate note, I was told McKenzie showed up sans mouthpiece or shorts. Someone got those for him at a store nearby.

UPDATE: Mike Dolce, the famous nutritionist, posted a picture on Twitter of McKenzie’s shorts. It would appear as if the fighter left them at the Sleep Train Arena Saturday night.
