Versus To Sign Multiyear Extension With WEC
In the next few weeks, Versus is expected to sign a multiyear extension of its broadcast agreement with Zuffa-owned World Extreme Cagefighting.
The news was first reported on Monday by the Sports Business Journal.
According to the report, the extension will exceed two years, though details were not disclosed.
One major component of the new deal will allow Versus.com to air preliminary bouts, though the report indicates the fights will not be streamed live.
The WEC has aired 12 events on Versus since debuting on the network with WEC 28 in June 2007. WEC 40, which is headlined by WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres vs. Takeya Mizuki, will air on the network on April 5th followed by WEC 41, featuring WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown in a rematch with Urijah Faber, on June 7th.

nice more great fights for free
i am also glad….as much as id like to see versus on ppv, i really cant see myself buying them after them being free most of the time..im really glad more free mma is on the way
Good for the WEC as well as us fans free fights are always good, correct??
More free MMA, no complaints here. I just hope that Versus can expand their viewership.
With Miguel Torres gaining more popularity the WEC will most likely gain a few more fans.
Also the Faber-Brown rivalry is picking up steam and has attracted the attention of a lot of people who are not big MMA fans, but are just familiar with Urijah Faber.
So i’m very happy that Versus will sign a new deal with Zuffa and keep the WEC airinf free. I never miss a WEC event and i hope it can keep growning.
Maybe when Joe “Daddy” Stevenson realizes that he has no future at 155 he’ll make the move to 145 just like Manny Gamburyan and spice up that division a bit more.
They have to have a TV deal. It would be a dissaster to jump to PPV.
