UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will spend the remaining days of 2013 – and many more to start 2014 – recovering from surgery to repair his shoulder.
After defeating Junior dos Santos for a second time earlier this year, Velasquez debated whether or not surgery was needed on his injured fighting utensil.
“My shoulder surgery (Tuesday) went well,” he posted on Twitter. “Can’t wait to be back at it!”
Velasquez is expected to finally meet Fabricio Werdum when he does return to the Octagon. Werdum has been on the sidelines since an early 2013 victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira cemented his status as the top contender.
